  1. I hope articulated buses come back to the 26 on the weekends...they'll be needed, especially come summertime. If I'm headed downtown on a Saturday or Sunday, I'll just drive to the Rapid after weekend service to the 55 is cut...the 26 is miserably slow during the day.
  2. Let's see..... Amtrak Greyhound RTA Lorain County Transit LA MTA (plus the old RTD) Big Blue Bus (Santa Monica, CA) Culver City Bus (Culver City, CA) Long Beach Transit OCTA (and the old OCTD..Orange County, CA) LA DOT Buses (Commuter Express and DASH (sort of like the old Circulators, but much cheaper)) Simi Valley Transit Metrolink (SoCal Commuter Rail) San Diego Transit San Diego Trolley San Diego MTS Buses NCTD (Northern San Diego County) MUNI (SF) BART SamTrans (San Mateo County, Bay Area) Golden Gate Transit (Marin County, CA) Foothill Transit (East San Gabriel Valley and Pomona Valley..CA) Montebello Bus Lines (Montebello, CA) Gardena Municipal Bus Lines (CA) Torrance Transit (CA) CalTrain Los Angeles (short-lived commuter train in the early 80s) CalTrain SF Bay Area (San Francisco thru San Mateo County down the South Bay peninsula (past Palo Alto) to San Jose/Gilroy) CAT (Vegas)..which is now the RTC. CTA (Chicago) Santa Barbara MTD Sacramento Regional Transit District DC Metro SEPTA (Philly) NJ Transit PATH (Train between Hoboken/Jersey City/Newark & Manhattan) NYC Transit (regular NYC buses & subway) New York Bus Service (routes now operated by MTA Bus) Liberty Lines (ditto) Long Island Rail Road MTA Bus Triboro Coach Co (now operated by MTA bus) Steinway Transit (later Queens Surface, then taken over by MTA bus) Staten Island Railway The T (Boston) Montreal Metro London Underground London Buses British Rail (now split up into a bunch of private contracted operators) Merseyrail (Liverpool) Green Line (London suburban/commuter buses) Conrail (later Metro-North...northern NYC 'burbs) UTA (Salt Lake City) Local buses in Shrewsbury, UK
  3. It would be difficult to get BRT established if RTA ends weekend/evening service on the 55. Other communities may cry foul if a corridor that doesn't have seven-day-a-week bus service gets something like BRT.
  4. I went Downtown early yesterday evening briefly...took the 55 to downtown. Took the 26 back to Lakewood...full bus, even a couple of standees briefly from West 65th westward a couple of stops. Bus had a full seated load all the way to West 117th. This was around 7PM. If the 26 has this kind of load..on a holiday...on a cold/snowy evening..it'll definitely need the artic back 7 days a week if/when weekend service is canceled on the 25 and 55, especially during the late spring/Summer, when more people go downtown in general. Otherwise, the 26 will be a sardine can on the weekends/holidays.
  5. I hope at the absolute minimum RTA retains weekday evening service until 10PM and Saturday daytime service (until 7PM). The 55 gets full frequently during the day on Saturdays east of 117th. I've seen pretty full 55's on Clifton up until about 10/10:30ish during the week.
  6. If evening/weekend service is cut on the 55, I hope the articulated buses return to the 26 on the weekends...they'll be needed.
  7. Not to be a downer, but at this point I'd be happy to see Clifton retain daily bus service, which is in doubt with RTA's proposed cuts.
  8. My wife and I tried Five Guys a week and a half ago. It was pretty good, I think...my wife was less than impressed, though. To me, it comes across as a more "family friendly" mix of two West Coast chains, Tommy's and In-N-Out. Chick-Fill-A is damn good, though. I really like that their stuff is relatively healthy (by fast-food standards).
  9. When I lived in LA (actually lived in Koreatown in my last year living in LA), I'd hit that Jack in the Box regularly after clubbing...it's a tad north of Santa Monica, though...right by Fountain. Mozzarella sticks, Bacon Ultimate Cheesburgers, Sourdough Jacks were all favorites...and no, it's not health food..lol.
  10. I imagine that, in the event that evening and weekend service is canceled (as proposed by RTA) on the 55, it will be a lot more difficult politically to secure funding for BRT on Clifton.
  11. If raising express fares can help preserve service (local and express), then I'm all for it. I would be willing to pay extra to ride my "home" line, the 55, downtown if necessary.
  12. It'll be cut after midnight on the weekends, but it will still run.
  13. According to the Plain Dealer article, evening and weekend service is set to be discontinued on the 55(!). The 55 has very good ridership from West 117th eastward on Saturdays, that I can personally attest to..buses frequently have a virtually full seated load daytime Saturdays.
  14. Having just two standees is probably not enough to make them run the artics on weekends fulltime, i would guess. FYI... RTA is currently training their drivers on the little busses formerly used as Community Circulators. You will see those busses on many routes on Saturdays and Sundays in the near future. Even though RTA doesn't run the artics on the 22/26 on the weekends anymore, they're still used well into the night weekdays on the 26. I imagine it's for scheduling reasons (may be logistically difficult/non-cost-effective to ferry a smaller bus in for the late-evening/night hours) but it's still a little weird considering they're not being used even on Saturdays, where they could arguably be useful. Interesting to know about the former circulator buses being considered for traditional bus routes. If it means that some bus routes can be saved, then I'm all for it. It's a shame that the circulators were canceled en masse in the first place. Perhaps someday we'll have a state government that doesn't give public transit the shaft...one can dream.
  15. I've noticed that the articulated buses aren't being used on the 22 & 26 on the weekends anymore. I can see not using them at night but I was on a eastbound 26 yesterday evening and around 80th and Detroit I saw a westbound bus with 2 standees...it was around 6:30pm. I hope RTA will bring back the artics at least for daytime Saturday and early evenings.
