Cleveland: Erie Street Cemetery
The city should rename Erie Ct. to match the name of the cemetery (the original Erie St. is now E. 9th St.) So what's it used for now? The dirt around these tombstones looks weird. It looks more like ashes than dirt.

Warm Weather, Greenery & the Redlegs = MORE PHOTO THREADS! I am back baby...
^^^ If you say something in your own thread unrelated to your pictures that isn’t true along with the other comments that you posted with it above than you shouldn’t get mad if the subject goes off the topic of your pictures for a while. And I didn't say anything bad about your pictures or try to pick a "fight" with you. I just provided a picture that proved otherwise to what you said and thought the words you used with what you incorrectly stated were a little over the top for that subject. By your later eye rolling response you seemed to think there was more to it than that or I was somehow attacking your pictures or you personally and I wasn't.

I'm not a fan of any specific MLB team. But when you make a post perpetuating a lie often said by Mets fans (which I definitively disproved above.) And when you also earlier told anyone saying anything to otherwise dispute that claim to back off, that's stupid.

Mets fans are stupid. Mr.Met is a ripoff of Mr.Red. Pictures taken from the 1957 season preview in Sports Illustrated. Five years before the Mets even existed. !

Does any city in Ohio have a hospital Downtown?
Canton used to have a hospital downtown at North Market & 8th Street. The 5 story neo-classical portion was completed in 1909 as an addition and was originally attached to McKinley's house which about a year and a half earlier in 1908 after McKinley's wife had died had been converted into the original Mercy Hospital. The 6 story art deco wing was added in 1929 and the McKinley house was moved to the Lincoln neighborhood where it was neglected during the depression and was razed after being left to rot for too long and was deemed beyond repair. The downtown Mercy hospital closed in 1971 when it was replaced by the new 10 story Mercy Hospital on 13th Street next to I-77 and both buildings on the site were later demolished to make way for the hideous Stark County Library, which is thankfully supposed to be getting replaced soon with a better library on the same site.

The great Ohio railroad station thread
"City officals tries to prevail upon AMTRAK to restore the old station which was considered an historic landmark. But AMTRAK, hard-pressed financially, decided that such a restoration would be to expensive. The State of Ohio had started the process of having the old station placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings so it could not be destoryed, but before this was approve, AMTRAK purchased the depot and razed it in October, 1976. In June, 1978 AMTRAK opened a new $250,000 station on the same site providing around-the-clock ticket service, rest rooms, a snack area and a lighted parking lot." -From the History of Stark County, printed 1979. I'd also like to point out that simply puting the building on the National Register wouldn't have single-handedly saved the building (although it certainly would've helped.) Because the Courtland Hotel in Canton was put on the National Register in 1988 and was demolished only a few years later in 1992.

The great Ohio railroad station thread
Canton Penn Station Demolished in the mid 70's for a small one story modernist box building even though local & state officials had already filled preliminary paperwork to have it listed on the National Register of Historic Places & had begged Amtrak to restore the existing building instead. That alienated the remaining people in the area still willing to ride trains at the time and killed passenger train service in Canton and all the other cities on their line. Canton B&O Station This station was located on the south end of downtown and is long gone. [glow=blue,2,300]BONUS[/glow] Trolley car torched during an electric railway strike in Alliance.

Akron-Canton Regional Airport
AKRON-CANTON AIRPORT ACHIEVES FOURTH CONSECUTIVE ANNUAL PASSENGER RECORD Green, OH: 2005 was another for the record books at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). Nearly 1.45 million passengers traveled to/ from the airport compared to 1.35 million the year before, a 5.6 percent increase. New flights offered by AirTran Airways and Frontier Airlines fueled the passenger growth at CAK. According to US Department of Transportation statistics, Akron-Canton was the second fastest growing airport in the nation from 2001-2004, increasing capacity (as measured by increased seats) by more than 100 percent. That growth is largely attributable to the expansion of low fare flights offered by industry juggernaut AirTran Airways at CAK. “It was another great year at Akron-Canton Airport,” said director Fred Krum. “More northeastern Ohio travelers have discovered our great airline service, low fares, shorter lines and a better overall airport experience. We aren’t resting on our laurels though; Akron-Canton is committed to adding new amenities in 2006 that will keep passengers coming back.” During 2005 Frontier Airlines commenced affordably priced, nonstop service to Denver aboard big, comfy Airbus jets with satellite TV in every seatback, with excellent single concourse connections to the west. Additionally, AirTran Airways added flights to Las Vegas aboard their brand new Boeing 737 aircraft and announced seasonal service to Ft. Myers, Florida (which commenced January 12, 2006). In 2006 the airport will dedicate the new gate concourse, add new food service options and will launch a new website. The airport is currently in the final phase of the $60 million, five-year STAR expansion project. The first two phases included longer runways, a new baggage claim wing and additional car parking. Additional airport information is available at www.akroncantonairport.com. Akron-Canton Airport, a better way to go. ### It's not mentioned in the article, but Akron-Canton has now passed Dayton International in total passengers by about 250,000 for the year based upon an article posted here a few days ago listing Dayton's amount of passengers through 11 months and their estimated December numbers. Also, maybe Akron-Canton's continued growth (they're already talking about another expansion even though the current one isn't finished) and increased competitiveness that continues to eat into Cleveland Hopkins ridership will convince Cleveland officials that they can't wait until the 20 year deal they gave the I-X Center to remain open (unless Cleveland builds a new convention center earlier) is up to upgrade and expand their airport. One of the key things Frank Jackson needs to do in his term is get a deal finalized and get construction underway for a new convention center downtown, so that the space that the I-X center occupies can be used for expanded runways and new terminals (plus the demolishing of the houses of people in Brook Park that were stupid enough to buy houses next to a pre-existing major airport.) Then Hopkins can get the long talked about direct international flights that will be key to Northeast Ohio's economic future.
