  1. Apologies in advance for the poor picture quality. Three factors going against these pictures: 1. I am very far from being a pro photographer 2. They were shot using an iPhone 3. It was a cloudy day. Regardless, they show the Schwind building before they took it down a couple of weeks ago. Although the building (and the adjacent DDN building) were in ok shape physically and were not nuisance properties, the buildings were taken down so a $22 million Student Suites project could be build for Sinclair students. The historic bank building, built as directed by James M. Cox back in 1908, will remain on the site. Here is a rendering of the new project:
  2. ^Yeah, I'm beginning to think Neiman Marcus is coming to the area soon - not sure whether it will be at Kenwood or Liberty. They have been advertising heavily on the Dayton Daily News website. And I know those aren't "ad-track" ads because I have never visited their website nor do I fit their ideal customer demographic.
  3. ^Thanks for posting the links SAF! Very interesting to see the official site plan submitted to Butler Co. It's eerie how much the Phase 1 footprint looks like the Greene.... (maybe not eerie since we are discussing a major developer which likely builds the same setup everywhere, but still... even down to the garage locations...)
  4. ^That makes sense. Thanks Ink!
  5. ... and the article to support this statement: http://www.whiotv.com/news/news/local/sale-of-montgomery-co-fairgrounds-discussed/nY9d9/
  6. weatherphotographer, Any chance you know which specific structures are being demolished at the site? I'm assuming not everything is being demolished (or at least I hope). https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&authuser=0&q=delphi+home+ave+dayton+ohio&ie=UTF-8&ei=h8v6UaaSBrSCyAHJxIHICw&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg
  7. Bump.... Why? Recently heard rumors again that the Fairgrounds might move to Brookville. And this would be great if it could happen!
  8. Better yet, put I-75 into the air and over top of the rail tracks running behind Union Terminal... Tie it in at I-74 and run it over the tracks all the way to 8th. Then veer it between Mehring and Lynn through Queensgate to point it right into Fort Washington Way.
  9. Hey UOers, I'm a lurker on this site most of the time. So let me start by saying that I'm sorry about the recent post loss, a lot of good discussion happened over that time and I personally will miss the availability of that content. Primarily I post on City-Data (Sorry, but I'd be the only Dayton person here! At least there's a couple on C-D...), BUT this is a big story if it happens. Looking forward to an exhilarating discussion! The article: http://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2013/07/10/new-development-for-downtown-dayton.html The developing firm is Crawford Hoying, which apparently in big in the Columbus real estate circles. It's unheard of here - at least from my perspective (I watch Loopnet fairly closely and have never heard of them). I looked through their portfolio in Dayton, and they have some small real estate holdings, and that is it! So slightly concerned about their credibility. Partnering with them is Jason Woodward. He's been in the commercial real estate market in Dayton for a while, so I'm assuming he understands what will fly and what won't in Dayton better then a Columbus firm. He recently left RG (yep, the Wal-Mart developer in our area haha) to start making his own path. Recently he did an interview with the Dayton Business Journal: http://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2013/02/12/qa-jason-woodard-dayton-naiop.html?page=all So this project is probably one of those projects he was "doing for himself" as referenced in the interview, if I don't extrapolate what he is saying too much... Since I'm on lunch break and this project has virtually no info up yet, I also creeped on his LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/jason-woodard/6/841/728 Seems to be actively interested in downtown revitalization. So hopefully this actually pans out! I've had my hopes deflated too many times as a Daytonian haha
  10. Okay then. Now we shall all love chinese lead and telephone operators in Bangalore, as well? Or is it okay to just worship Walmart as it puts all of the local, well-established astores out of business and actually causes job loss and decreased living standards? I understand this provides jobs, but at what cost? What resources will be wasted? How will this affect neighboring cities and businesses? How much more money are we going to have to waste on building roads and other resources in cornfields? How much more are we going to trash the natural enviroment? Ask yourself this before blindly supporting "the big new thing" next time.
  11. Yes!!!!!! It will be nice to have them back. Only thing that's bugging me though..... Why didn't they choose to relocate back by UD in the big, new, fairly vacant building on Brown Street just north of Stewart? Oh well.
  12. What a shame. Oh well, maybe someday it will look like Dixie Square mall in Harvey, Illinois!
  13. Surprised the cincy guys haven't come by yet. They have it pretty hard up from their north metro at times.
