  1. Yup, my bad. Shows how often I go to Cleveland… Regardless, the stretch between Cincinnati and Columbus is frustrating, which is the stretch I drive. It does go randomly between two and three lanes. Might as well make it all three lanes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. ^Wonder if there's extra room with how they plan to rework the Sears building for a small museum about Sears, or malls in general? I could really see people going for that. If they scrub the green paint off the front of the building and put some SEARS letters back up it would be pretty iconic. It looks like Sears as a whole probably isn't going to exist in a year or so, can't imagine they would get in trouble for copyright infringement.
  3. This is going to sound crazy, but I agree there should be a third lane on I-71 the whole way between Cleveland and Columbus... because it makes us look more prosperous as a state. That's really the only basis. Two lanes, while tight, is functionally fine. But it's not as enjoyable to drive, and it makes us look worse than places like KY and TN that have built up I-75 and I-65 to three lanes from end to end. As for urban lane additions... get outta here.
  4. Wright Dunbar is starting to become Dayton’s Franklinton and I’m here for it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Maybe they will lease some space in the old Macys HQ? That seems more likely to me unless they are building out the residential the proposed there now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I don’t disagree, but few companies I know of have the variety Kroger does, which honestly is kind of awesome it keeps it all together on the same profile. Like Kroger in Oakley is a whole different store than Kroger in Wellston, if you stepped into one you’d never think you’re in the same chain of stores under the same branding if you stepped into the other. Kroger has done an excellent job managing this variation and targeting their stores to their market. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Awesome, good to know and makes good sense. I wasn’t sure if they had a cohesive brand identity like Walmart, even though they have different store labels. But it makes good sense they do not, and they are very much like Kroger where they brand for the neighborhood of operation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I really hope they retain the name “SpinCo” for the new stores. I’m guessing the stores they will allow to stay open and spin off will be more along the Ruler Foods (or for a Cleveland comparison, Marc’s) level of stores? Would make good sense to at least brand SpinCo (lol) that way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Anyone have a map of Kroger and Albertsons locations together on the same map? Would be really interesting to see where they compete and where the new markets would be. Also, has anyone been in an Albertsons, Safeway, etc. recently? Are they nice? Like if you were going to pick a random Kroger location in your city, which one is Albertsons overall most like? 10. This did not age like milk. I almost had it! Happy Honda is bringing the plant to Ohio, if they chose the “Fayetteville County Mega Site” it’s a spot with good infrastructure for sure! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Moving the tennis tournament to the FWW caps is a very interesting idea. It could also, depending on how it is built, maybe integrate in a main stadium that also serves as a Heritage Bank Arena replacement. That would require a retractable roof and some creative (expensive) design, however. Idk if many people here realize that the Cincy tennis tournament is one of the oldest in the USA, which is also why it is one of the highest point value tournaments in the US too. Bringing it right downtown would give it a whole new life in a super cool venue surrounded by one of the best preserved collections of 19th century architecture in the country. Don’t get me wrong, I do like the current site A LOT (it’s gorgeous) but this is next level good if done well. The only issue is how to use the site the other ~350 days a year. Would rooftop courts over low rise retail and office buildings be an option that could be in budget? I know nothing about the costs of rooftop gardens and the like Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I've just got to put it out there... malls as a whole are ranked by "A, B, C...", individual store locations, at least externally, are not. I'd be willing to bet Nordstrom has some type of internal calculation based on revenue, average HH income, etc. to classify their top and bottom stores, like any chain of stores would do, but I can say as a matter of fact that does not carry over to any type of formal, publicly available classification system like is the case for malls themselves.
  13. ^Damn! That's crazy, I probably had not been there since 2010 or so but way back then it was busy and doing well. Sad to see it go. But at this point selling the real estate and redeveloping it is going to be a good move for the owner. Hopefully some of the rides will be able to be replaced and taken to new parks. If most of the rides, etc. were in good shape and I was the owners, I'd look into hauling the whole setup to Indianapolis, where they do not have a waterpark, and re-set it up somewhere with cheaper highway land frontage over there, and the land is pretty flat so minimal grading should be needed.
  14. I think that’s the Studebaker building. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Nice shots! The scale of Chicago is unreal, great to see it from the air Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Or to the southeast along I-71. My guess is the Wilmington area. If I was responsible for the decision at Honda I’d choose right at the intersection of I-71 and US 68, because US 68 is pretty easy to navigate up to the Honda plants (barring all of the screwball backroads to cut over north of Urbana, but the truck route on US 36 is an easy drive). And Greensburg is easy to get to as well from there. Land is cheap, labor is more available because Amazon decided to not build their hub there, and Wilmington Airpark is a perfect airport to have to bring in rush parts when needed to make production. Also they seem to like to locate right between major cities, and that site puts them in a good spot between Cincy, Columbus and Dayton. So that’s my two cents ahead of any official announcement, let’s see if it ages like milk. Hope this happens! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I’m excited about the renovation, but wish the focus was turning it into an arena-like space. Without Hara around there’s a lack of good event spaces in Dayton… not that Hara was good (it was really, really rough at the end) but the only true arenas are at WSU, UD, and Hobart in Troy. It would make a nice ice rink like was proposed to be built across the street years ago. Seems like $31mil would cover that conversion? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I could be wrong, but am fairly certain those townhouses are going to buoy by NVR (Ryan Homes) so you would be correct Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I actually disagree. It’s a pretty neat church building, it’s a horrible shame it’ll be demolished for this and a bunch of surface parking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. It may not be the best way to go, but the obvious answer to me is to use the money that would go to a new basketball arena and put a dome on Paul Brown Stadium instead. Retrofit PBS to handle events like basketball games well enough to be passable (see article below) and focus the renovation primarily on building a venue capable of landing major concerts. It sucks that the previous stadium deal was as horrible as it was, but the damage has been done. IMO Cincy would lose more money by not upgrading, then losing the Bengals, then building some other stadium without a clear purpose vs. just upgrading PBS to fit this purpose. Sure, this might cut into the purpose of the competing concert venues right there, but if we were smart maybe all three together plus the outdoor space could host events like a tamer Bunbury. Or heck, maybe even a winter Bunbury… better marketers and data analysts than me could figure out whether there’s a winter indoor music festival market, but I bet there would be. 21. They should call it Garden Station… glad they are finally doing something with the site tho! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. ^yes, the apartments would help it a lot. I honestly think they should just go ahead and lean hard into the 35+ year old single bar scene vibe. When I went to Agave and Rye there to pick up tacos a few months ago, I decided to have a drink at the bar while I was there. The scene I saw was definitely 40-50 year olds cruising for pickups, looked like some possible swap stuff going on… maybe I’m crazy or misinterpreted but I’m 90% sure that I did not. Btw this was on an average Tuesday evening around 5-6 pm or so. They might as well cater to that demographic and do what they can to cultivate it, I’d like to think if I’m still single in 5-10 years there would be a welcoming place for someone like me to find people out in the real world… driving over there to it would not be ideal tho Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Imagine all the minivans parked out front, reminds me of a miniature Amsterdam. …If the trustees just kept their mouths shut and didn’t say such laughably stupid bullish!t then maybe I’d actually have a little respect for what they are trying to do. But equating whatever this is with Europe, damn that’s dumb and naïve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Ripping out the convention center for an arena is an interesting idea, makes decent sense to me as Cincy is not a big “convention” town like Indy or Columbus. Would it be possible to just build over top of Sixth? It’s all pie in the sky anyways, and depending on the design it could be an effective combo center Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. It’ll actually be more convenient for people from Dayton to go to it than it will be for people from Cincy to go there. I’m not even joking Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
