  1. ^Neither actually... Rusty Taco is moving into the shopping center right across the street from the Sears site, in-line with Fazoli's, Smashburger, etc. El Toro is freeing up the space since they are moving into the former TGI Fridays.

Probably? I haven’t been over there regularly in about a year, I had to drop off from commenting on there and all other forums due to some circumstances in my own life (not bad ones, just dumb ones). I’m just getting back into the urban blogging scene again. When the main forumers (myself included) left City-Data, it became motorman’s and Wilson513’s parallel echo chambers so she left too. Since then Wilson has also left... he might have even left before her. City-Data was always a bizarro mix of senior citizens and young progressives. Clashing was inevitable. What’s interesting to see is who’s left and who bailed.

City Data is dead in the water, at least the local forums I see are. You'll see the Cincy forum go for a week without a post sometimes... it's crazy. The racists ran everyone else out. I think a lot of that traffic then moved over to Facebook, for better or worse, and they comment on news stories because they got bored of their own echo chamber. The more progressive / urban minded crowd has seemed to either stick with places like UO, colonize/terrorize places like Middletown USA (now if y'all are looking for a fun forum... THAT'S a fun forum lol. A special breed of crazy lives there.) ...OR they've moved on to Reddit, because where else can you mix pornography, dating advice, cooking tips, and urban discussion besides there?

Makes sense, thank you for the info. Sounds like it'd be worth trying out on a weekend day to see who's on it (I'm really curious if UD students use it to get downtown).
  5. Is it likely Hyatt would be OK with sacrificing their ballroom and the whole building would be demolished?
  6. Not sure if you or the other UOers saw this, but I think you hit the nail on the head with this comment: https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/local/sycamore-township/2018/12/04/mixed-use-project-built-across-kenwood-towne-centre/2191832002/ Especially for OH, that is some extreme suburban density.... 248 apartments, 125 hotel rooms, a six-story office building, 20,000 square feet of retail & 1240 parking spaces in two garages On seven acres (~300,000 square feet) is intense!
  7. Makes sense, to me it seems like it would not be smart for Saks to leave now since they are in the middle of a booming area.... unlike 10 years ago when that was not the case.
  8. Dayton is doing awhile lot better than you probably remember... downtown has been booming over the past couple of years. The issue with Dayton is it doesn’t have a strong CBD office community like Cincinnati. During the depths of the recession the office vacancy rate downtown just about hit 40%! Because of that, most of the project’s downtown are refurbishment and infill, which is awesome tbh. It preserves what we already have, which is arguably better built than a lot of new stuff. Andthere was one crane downtown until recently with Caresource’s new second building at the former Patterson Co-Op High site. It would be awesome to see interest in a new mid rise or high rise building downtown, something that’s more than 6 or 7 stories, to sit on one of the parking lots downtown that we have. Glad to see Cincinnati is filling in their downtown parking lots with new buildings
  9. The IHOP they built but never opened at Miller Lane is now going to open as an independent restaurant: https://www.dayton.com/news/just-the-ghost-ihop-that-never-opened-will-now-but-not-ihop/JcPoaibyPWyobURsdLhYGN/

Have you guys had a chance to try this out? I've read articles that it's very popular: https://www.daytondailynews.com/news/local/downtown-dayton-free-shuttle-service-gets-new-stops-new-bus/TYN3x2pft9TkTFXbExHSQO/ It looks like it's been a good, easy success story for the city... looking forward to trying it out soon but hoping it's not too crowded lol (amazed I have to be concerned about that on a bus in Dayton!)
  11. To get back on topic... I wonder how this development would have been different if Saks would have decided to move to Kenwood Collection a couple years ago? IMO they without a doubt made the right choice to stay but whether or not downtown is better off with them remaining is a whole different issue.
  12. That is exactly three more cranes than Dayton has at the moment... amazing to see the amount of progress that has been made in downtown Cincy alone over the past 5-6 years, much less the rest of the city! Hoping the crane bug will come north.
  13. ^Exciting news for sure on the new library, but I hope they find a good use for the existing library. It's a great, well-built mid-century modern building. Given the fact they tore down the neighboring elementary school built in the same era recently, I doubt there's much hope but hoping I'll be proven wrong.
  14. To an extent, yes... Dayton View has some houses comparable in size and build to North Avondale, and both neighborhoods have had more issues and blight than, say, Oakwood or Hyde Park, but Dayton View is certainly worse off right now.
  15. The house right below this comment is right around the intersection of Captala and N. Main in Dayton. It sits off a cul-de-sac that dead ends into Captala and was on the market about a year ago for around $200k. The neighborhood around there has a ton of great mid-century modern architecture, must have been a prime spot back in the 1960's. If I was a couple of years more financially stable, that would be my house right now lol, it is truly a beauty and a classic
  16. Right? It's bound to happen tho... won't be too many more demolitions until the "Mall at Fairfield Commons" becomes "The random ass collection of chain Restaurants that is neither in the original city of Fairfield nor make up anything that even remotely resembles a Commons"
  17. Jumping back on UO! Saw this today on DBJ, Dayton View Triangle was ranked the #23 most livable neighborhood in the Dayton area as derived from niche.com data. Assuming the DBJ list considered Montgomery county only, Dayton View beat many places including Trotwood, Moraine, Fairborn, Patterson Park, Huber Heights and Belmont: https://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2019/03/09/report-25-best-places-to-live-in-dayton-region.html#g/450782/4 For the Cincinnatians and other UOers out there that may not be familiar with Dayton View Triangle, it is very similar to a North Avondale or East Cleveland in both build quality and relative poverty. Even five years ago the idea of redevelopment would have been a distant afterthought, but with all of the new urban developments coming online some kind of rebirth here is looking more and more possible.
  18. Seems appropriate for here: http://www.mostmetro.com/the-featured-articles/rta-launches-the-flyer-a-free-shuttle-bus-service-downtown.html Very much looking forward to this shuttle, it’ll be a great way to get UD students to go downtown as well as give downtown employees more options at lunchtime

Interesting way to identify the song. As a 26-yo it's the only way I identify this song lol. I also associate it with laundromats, and cleaning in general.

True. Lots of people still have "stuff", I'm guilty too (to a degree... I'd like to live with less). The question is why buy a bunch of stuff just to put it in piles and never touch it again? In an economy where even cars are increasingly being rented/shared, the idea of purchasing many physical products is asinine. But that's wayyyy outside of the scope of this thread, which is supposed to be a fun, light-hearted thread examining how dumb people can be, as judgmental of a purpose as that is.

Saw this on Reddit (it happened in Columbus’ Hilltop neighborhood) and had to share here Mods, I did a search for dumb crimes and stupid crimes but nothing came up, so... I made this thread. It might be best combined into a different spot, idk, and if it should be somewhere else, I apologize. But this is so stupid it almost has to be staged! https://www.10tv.com/article/video-men-take-tv-apartment-whip-it-plays-too-loud-victim-hear-burglars Definitely watch the video in the article with the sound on... apparently the home owners were loudly listening to “Whip It” (the song from the Swiffer commercials) while two burglars stole their tiny TV from their cluttered house. Supposedly this is footage from their surveillance camera, but I am skeptical tho... looks like acting to me. One burglar even did the shhh motion to the other burglar!

New favorite song right now (the lyrics are fine but the video is probably NSFW because of the violence):
  24. ^Poorly done Williamsburg.... very poorly done. If you just look at one unit by itself it looks like a cyclops with that random third story window
  25. Earlier the idea being kicked around was the ballet would move into the current Cincinnati Public Library north building since it seemed to meet their requirements from the linked article. Not sure if that is going anywhere or not. To tie it back to the FC Stadium proposal, the topic of this thread, it seems like tearing down the modern parts of Cincy ballet's current site for a parking garage would make a lot more sense than putting it on John St. (aside from the amazing mid-centry modern structure right on the corner). IMO this would be a lot smarter because you'd have access to Liberty St. and Central, and minimize the amount of cars in neighborhoods or pedestrian areas... it'd virtually eliminate traffic from people coming to a FC match from the north at the 15th St. crosswalk people would use to go to the streetcar. The remaining sections of the current building could be remodeled.
