Well for an update, we like Lyndhurst a lot but still love Cleveland Heights (still can't afford Shaker's Taxes) and keeping an eye on University Heights. Fell in love with 3 houses now, one in UH in which we found water problems and ran, another in UH which was the most expensive on the block and had an offer by the time we looked at it a 2nd time (we refuse to get into a bidding war in this economy), and then in Lyndhurst which turned up too many major fixes (roof, furnace, driveway, electrical, water damage). We've seen about 30 houses so far and now we're switching realtors, hopefully to one that will actually listen to our requests/needs and work for us rather than just pushing us to make an offer on every house we see. Had no idea this was going to be so stressful even before we got to the paperwork!

Thnx to all for the information so far, VERY helpful including all the PMs. Looks like we're on the right track :)
  3. Hi all, we are a couple currently living in an apartment in Shaker Heights (near the Square). We're house hunting. We can't afford the taxes in Shaker yet (7 years down the line we're hoping) but we can in Lyndhurst and University Heights which is where we're looking. We've found a lot of houses there in our price range and the taxes are doable. We don't know those areas very well and we were wondering if anyone can give us a little better idea about the neighborhoods in those areas. We will be having kids within the next 2-3 years and hoping to move back to Shaker Heights within the next 7 so this is a starter house but we'd like to be in a safe area with younger people, kids around, good places to play, quieter streets, etc... We've been looking a bit in UH south of Cedar between Warrensville and Taylor north of Fairmount. Also in Lyndhurst north of Mayfield east of Richmond. Any info about those neighborhoods would be very much appreciated! Any boundary streets to watch out for (good on one side, bad on the other) etc... We know the schools are average, nothing to write home about from their report cards and from what Zillow.com and Trulia.com say about them. Also if you can suggest other neighborhoods to look in, that'd be great!! We're considering University Heights, Cleveland Heights, Mayfield Heights and Lyndhurst as of right now
  4. a day late and a few dollars short, but I feel your pain as I moved from Cbus to the Cleve almost a year ago. I miss Cbus VERY much but am happy in Cleveland (Shaker Square area) as long as I can get back to Cbus once or twice a month to visit all the friends I left there. Shaker Heights is a great area, particularly around the square. Feel very at home here and safe.
  5. (the observation deck, it's closed)
  6. Ahh, they closed that.
  7. What's a PC? There is an upper level? Delta is staying where it is and Northwest is moving into A by the way since the DAL/NWA combined ops will be below the B security checkpoint. And ya... United isn't anywhere close to you guys. Wish DAL would beef up the flights in and out of CLE to compete so I could get to work more easily ;)
  8. Green Leaf's sounds good, but there was a Rock Hall store in the airport before all this began, I guess it's just new to the developer... nothing impressive. Villa is good too, it's a greasy carb heaven.
  9. Like MyTwoSense mentioned, there is already room for development down there, besides unused land/ports that seem to be dead, the businesses can be taken over (i.e. Hornblower... RIP :'( ) CLE, besides needing the IX to move, doesn't need to be expanded right now... airline service is way down and here's hoping Continental keeps it's hub in CLE. The present volume of traffic doesn't warrant expansion.
  10. I know I'm jumping in late on this thread, but closing BKL would be a HUGE mistake. Between the amount of private/business aircraft, the airshow and the race every year, you'd be shutting out millions of dollars coming into the Cleveland area every year. BKL is a money maker! Not to mention shutting any airport down is a travesty. Shut down BKL and you've given big business another reason to not come to or to leave Cleveland... enough mistakes. Now, onto CLE... when is this new "Mall" supposed to be complete, the place looks like a disaster, finding coffee is not easy and ALL chain restaurants are gone (Burger King is now "Sliders" or something, Tequila's is gone, and Sbarro is now a knock-off) Don't know if Nathan's on A still exists or not...
  11. Yeah, I had forgotten the name of it, but I was sad to see it go last fall. Keep hoping something similar will try to start up there. I know it's cold in Cleveland but ice cream is good year round!
  12. I'll admit, I'm new to Cleveland and SS, lived here almost a year but I've NEVER seen worse parkers than Cleveland drivers (especially in parking garages but always when it counts and the lot is completely full)... Columbus has the worst drivers by far, but Cleveland cannot park. but I digress, what happened to the ice cream place on SS!? We need something like that... it was nice to take a walk in the evening and "accidentally" end up walking in to get some ice cream on the square!
  13. So no new news on the new airline? Checked the FAA database and no operating certificate for TAZ yet... May 9th is awful close not to have paperwork, ground equipment, gates, staff, pilots, and airplanes ready to go...
