  2. With the Reds back in town, downtown traffic at evening rush hour was ugly yesterday... From Cincinnati Bell Connector via Twitter: "Please be advised: due to extreme congestion from work on the Brent Spence Bridge, service is experiencing delays."

  4. Up for vote at Wednesday's City Council meeting: ORDINANCE (EMERGENCY) submitted by Harry Black, City Manager, on 6/26/2017, authorizing the City Manager to execute a Development Agreement with SkyHouse Cincinnati, LLC or another affiliate of the national real estate developer known as Novare Group, pertaining to the development and construction at 601 E. Pete Rose Way in downtown Cincinnati of a mixed-use project containing approximately 352 residential units and an approximately 504- space parking facility, and providing for City assistance to the project in the form of a rebate of a portion of the service payments in lieu of taxes imposed in connection with a 30-year tax exemption for improvements to the property pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 5709.41, the amount of which rebate will be performance-based.

  6. Tap & Screw Brewery opening in Madisonville After closing its Westwood location back in February, Tap & Screw Brewery is ready to reopen in Madisonville. It will open at 4 p.m. Thursday, with a grand opening planned for July 6. The new 7,000-square-foot space at 4721 Red Bank Road (across from the under-construction Dolce Hotel) will serve as a production brewery and also houses a 1,500-square-foot tap room. The latter has an artistic look, said Adam Lorenz, co-owner and head brewer. That's thanks to a large, brewery-themed mural and metal sculptures created by local artist John Vosel. Tables are made of maple and Purpleheart wood, to complement the brewery's purple logo. There is seating for about 100 people. Cont
  7. Music Hall revamp cost rises to $143 million Music Hall’s massive renovation project is running on time but the budget has crept up by six percent. The total cost now stands at more than $143 million. In addition, the project is $1 million short of its fundraising goal before the hall reopens in October. “We anticipate that we will come fairly close to even on our budget," said Otto M. Budig Jr., who heads the revitalization group that is overseeing the project. The Over-the-Rhine landmark is undergoing its first major renovation in more than four decades. The previous cost estimate released by officials was $135 million. Cont
  8. At yesterday's Budget & Finance meeting, there was a brief discussion on tax abatements for 126 (and possibly 130) E Sixth St. This would be the old Benihana & Frisch's locations. They are owned by DREA 6 - Exchange, LLC (aka Neyer). Sounded like they were spending $8.5M on a remodel if they received historic tax credits.

WCPO Insider... Can FC Cincinnati leverage more out of Newport, Cincinnati for stadium? The future location of Futbol Club Cincinnati’s professional stadium could hinge on which city – Cincinnati or Newport, Kentucky – is the highest bidder. The team, which is vying for one of the open spots in Major League Soccer, is considering sites in both cities to build a roughly $200 million stadium. FC Cincinnati ownership plans to kick in $100 million, which would still leave as much a $100 million funding hole. In a talk with supporters last week, FC Cincinnati CEO Carl Lindner III made it clear: The team will go to the city that offers support for the stadium’s construction. Cont
  11. From the Central Parkway and Walnut Development thread: "Developers of a Kroger-anchored residential tower are seeking $30.7 million in taxpayer support for the project, including the diversion of about $95,000 a year in property taxes that would otherwise flow to the streetcar, a WCPO analysis shows. Details of the financing plan were not finalized when the Kroger Co. and the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp., or 3CDC, announced the $90.5 million project at Court and Walnut streets June 6. City officials and 3CDC are still tinkering with contract terms. But WCPO pieced together the plan in several interviews over the last two weeks. It’s a complicated deal that makes the Kroger store itself the first Downtown development to be exempted from a two-year-old policy requiring tax-break recipients to share 15 percent of their proceeds with the Cincinnati Bell Connector. It also includes some profit-sharing language that enables the city to recover some of its investment if the project exceeds expectations."

  13. Newport prepares for Ferris wheel When building a giant Ferris wheel, you need many approvals. So far so good for the 235-foot Ferris wheel planned for Newport on the Levee. Barring some change of mind by local officials, it looks like the Newport City Commission will give zoning approval for the Ferris wheel. The commission held first reading this week to change the zoning at Newport on the Levee to allow for amusement park attractions. Cont

They addressed this question at Monday's season ticket holders meeting. After declaring the current US Bank arena site as too small for a soccer stadium, they stated that looking at a multi-purpose venue design would not meet the EOY deadline (and timeline if they get the bid) that MLS has.

The Enquirer's crack reporting ignores that this rendering exists and that they published it yesterday... Looking at Newport as FC Cincinnati's potential future home Newport is emerging as Futbol Club Cincinnati's best option for building a stadium, a fact that became more clear Monday night when the burgeoning franchise unveiled the design of a $200 million soccer-specific venue. The renderings showed the stadium only from the ready-to-build site at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking rivers, although FC Cincinnati officials also continued to discuss locations in Cincinnati's Oakley and West End neighborhoods. "Our preference is to be in Cincinnati," FC Cincinnati President Jeff Berding told a group of season-ticket holders on Monday. However, he added, "we have to win the bid." Cont

Would KY finally update the 471S Route 8 exit (5) if Newport wins the bid? The rush hour/weekend (Levee) traffic on the Daniel Carter Beard bridge produces many accidents. Can't see inbound access via Covington being much better...

Stumbled upon this article from last week on nextSTL, MLS Expansion: St. Louis vs. Cincinnati, and this comment caught my eye: Now I have a friend who lives in Columbus that has mentioned the same thing to me before, i.e. free tickets. I counter with the fact at least 10k season tickets have been sold. Not to mention that as a season ticket holder (of Zone 1 seats), 4 of the 5 games I was unable to attend I was able to sell the tickets on StubHub (with 3 of those 4 at a profit). And at my work the only FCC offers we get are the occasional 15% off. Friends that work at P&G, CinBell, Convergys, Duke, Paycor have never seen a free ticket offer either. Have any of you?

WCPO Insider: Oakley is packed with entertainment. Will FC Cincinnati join the crowd? Options for having fun in Cincinnati's Oakley neighborhood have mushroomed in the last five years. Mad Tree Brewery, a movie theater complex with leather loungers and a host of restaurants and bars clustered in and around Oakley Station barely scratch the surface of the entertainment boom in the east-side neighborhood. Would an FC Cincinnati soccer stadium be a good addition to the mix? The soccer club aims to find out. Cont
