FC Cincinnati moves up the charts in MLS expansion race It’s been three months since FC Cincinnati submitted its application for an expansion team in Major League Soccer. Competition is fierce. It was one of a dozen cities to turn in a bid. Since then, some cities’ bids have run into trouble. That bodes well for FC Cincinnati, which continues on its strong path to expansion. It’s time to revisit where FC Cincinnati stacks up in the high-stakes battle for one of four expansion bids MLS will award starting this year. First, some quick background: FC Cincinnati started out as one of the clear frontrunners in the high-stakes battle. Most observers had FC Cincinnati at least in the top four. That’s based largely on the overwhelming attendance success the club enjoyed in its inaugural season last year. Cont

FC Cincinnati's Djiby Fall suspended for 'major game misconduct' In the wake of a biting accusation stemming from Saturday's Futbol Club Cincinnati-Louisville City FC match, a United Soccer League disciplinary panel handed down Wednesday two fines and a combined six-game suspension for FC Cincinnati striker Djiby Fall. Djiby, who was accused post-match by Louisville City head coach James O'Connor of biting Louisville midfielder Niall McCabe, was assessed a five-game suspension and fine for what the USL Disciplinary Panel termed in its weekly discipline report as "major game misconduct." 6. With a complete demo, I'd like to see a better alignment of 2nd Street, E Pete Rose Way, both portions of Broadway, and the Transit Center.
  7. From breweries to emergencies, here's why the streetcar's been stopped hundreds of times CINCINNATI -- The Queen City's love of beer is literally stopping the streetcar in its tracks. Popular Over-the-Rhine brewery Rhinegeist has become a hot spot for cars parking on the streetcar tracks, sometimes even throwing it off schedule. In February, the city’s parking officers found the streetcar tracks were blocked somehow -- from cars on the tracks to people parking too close to the streetcar lane -- more than 135 times near the brewery. That spot, 1900 Elm St., has had more track issues than any other block on the passenger car’s 3.6-mile route. Cont
  8. @Bob Frisch's - This definitely needs to be the location of our next meet-up!
  9. I forgot about yesterday's update... Based on the fact that there has been no Streetcar headlines in the Enquirer the past 24 hours, ridership must have been up in March and it continues to run in the black.
  10. Taste of Cincinnati makes way for streetcar, moves two blocks east CINCINNATI -- Taste of Cincinnati is making way for Cincinnati's streetcar. The annual Memorial Day food fest is shuffling two blocks east, organizers announced Wednesday. It's the second event the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber has moved to accommodate the city's newest transit system; Oktoberfest Zinzinnati moved to Second and Third streets last year for its 40th anniversary celebration. The festival's relocation shows Cincinnati "can walk and chew gum at the same time," Vice Mayor David Mann said. Cont
  11. 12. Two streetcar articles currently on Cincinnati.com... Want to ride the streetcar on Opening Day? You'll have to wait The Cincinnati streetcar won't run on Opening Day until after the parade ends. Specifically, on April 3 the streetcar will begin running in Over-the-Rhine after the parade ends and no later than 3 p.m. for the Downtown loop. The news emerged at Council's Major Transportation Committee. Paul Grether, rail manager for the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, which oversees the streetcar, urged patience. "We directed Transdev (which operates the streetcar) to move as quickly as possible," Grether said. "We'll need to inspect the line and check the power just to make sure everyone is safe." [/url] Finally, monthly streetcar passes coming Regular streetcar riders have been clamoring for the option to buy a monthly pass since it opened in September, only to be told it's not possible. But that will change come summer. Sallie Hilvers, a spokeswoman for the agency that oversees streetcar operations, announced the limited-time offer during Cincinnati City Council's Major Transportation Committee meeting Tuesday. Beginning in May, passes will be sold for June, July and August. Cont Of course, no headlines for:

  20. Historic Christian Moerlein icehouse to house new distillery and brewery A building that was once part of the historic Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. complex in Over-the-Rhine will become home to a new craft brewery and distillery this summer. The yet-to-be-named brewery and distillery will open inside the former Moerlein icehouse at 108 Henry St. by June or July, according to two of its co-founders, David Berger and Bryan Becker. “This has been in planning for two years,” said Berger. “It’s sort of bringing the building back to what it used to be.” Cont
