  1. Cincinnati police move into new District 3 headquaters in Westwood WCPO Staff Police officers on the city's West Side officially have a new home as of Wednesday night, moving out of their historic but cramped quarters on Warsaw Avenue to a new station on Ferguson Road. The old District 3 station in East Price Hill was built in 1907, and the department had outgrown it long ago. The new state-of-the-art $15 million building in Westwood -- the city's largest neighborhood -- doubles the district's office space to 39,000 square feet. An active group of community members from District 3 helped pick public art for the building; etched windows and columns are designed to reflect the 14 neighborhoods on the West Side. Cont
  2. Horseshoe Casino may charge office workers who now park for free Barrett J. Brunsman - Cincinnati Business Courier If you usually park for free in the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati's garage before heading to the office to work, Friday probably won’t be your lucky day. The casino at 1000 Broadway reportedly will begin charging $10 a day on July 10. A casino website states that the “self-park garage is free 24/7 until further notice,” but Hamilton County employees were notified this afternoon that the Horseshoe will begin charging those without parking passes. A spokesperson for the casino didn’t immediately respond to a Business Courier request for comment on why such a change might be made. Cont
  3. I think some greenery and trees will be added as construction contines. I alluded to how sterile and uninviting TKILTBAG seems. Clearly there can be some kind of trees or greeneryplanters used on the sidewalks but also many of the restaurants can add there own smaller planters to green thinsg up. As the trees grow, it will get better; will probably be a few years before it ruly fels warmed up. Glad this is finally being addressed 3 years after it was brought up. In all seriousness, did the developers not see the need for this/ i know most on this forum have a particular eye for this kind of stuff but i just dont understand how delayed this was. In case you missed it, LesterLyles is referring to the planters/railing being added along 2nd Street. See The Banks thread for pics/discussion.

I can invite you to the 7 Facebook events (parties) I personally am aware of, if you like. Come on Jake, stop being Grandpa Simpson.
  5. Adult Down-Hill Big-Wheel Racing coming to Pendelton on July 18th: Danger Wheel (note: site includes an auto-play YouTube video) On a certain summer's night, the tranquil neighborhood of Pendleton transforms into two blocks of asphalt, speed and down-hill competition! THIS IS DANGERWHEEL! This inaugural tournament of bravery and outdoor jollification is composed of three key elements: 1) The best dogs that local restaurants can prepare. 2) A wide selection of summer swill by local breweries and bars. 3) The first ever adult big-wheel racing tournament. Are you in for a little danger?
  6. The railing at TK's was pulled in about a foot today. Not to say it won't creep back... The addition of these planters essentially removes this stretch as a make-shift taxi stand. Not to say people won't still hop the fencing to load/unload vehicles. That is until the streetcar is running. Speaking of which, not sure how they will install the future OCS poles with the planters in place. Hopefully all parties involved are talking.
  7. Streetcar stop has been constructed here, just to the right of this pic, in front of Toby Keith's entrance. The boxes stop as the curb/sidewalk slopes up for the stop. The decorative fencing can be lifted up and removed in spots. E.g. the parking garage entrance.

I've seen a Google Maps car zigzagging through downtown today. All-Star game related? Not sure how often they do updates... Currently it appears that south of 6th Street was last updated in July 2014, north of 6th Street was September 2014.
  9. ^We are discussing 2nd Street. Are you referring to Freedom Way?
  10. ^I'd agree. If it is indeed permanent, they should fill the planters with year-round plants. Now if only the establishments outdoor seating railing could be bolted to the concrete as seen at the 580 Building's restaurant row.
  11. Not sure if this is a permanent addition to the south side of 2nd Street or for the All-Star Game:

More love notes for Cincinnati will be lit up for the All-Star Game Erin Caproni - Cincinnati Business Courier Cincinnatians’ love for the Queen City is going to be evident for baseball fans visiting for the All-Star Game and festivities in the coming weeks. In addition to excerpts from a love poem to Cincinnati being displayed near Great American Ball Park, ArtWorks is partnering with Brave Berlin to create a unique display at the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center. A light installation using architectural projection mapping technology like what is used for Music Hall’s Lumenocity will debut on the CAC – located at Sixth and Walnut streets – on Friday night and remain on display for a month. It will animate more lines of the poem “Seven Hills and a Queen to Name Them.” Cont
  13. My first thought was All-Star Game related. Gotta say... it'd be pretty damn cool to see fireworks shoot out of the tiara.
  14. Here’s which contractors will be next to build at the Banks The important part of the article "Crews are expected to begin construction at the site by July 20, and the work is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2016."

Article states the video board is due to be installed July 6 but it arrived onsite today... HOW IT'S MADE: Huge Reds video board assembled in All-Star crunch Steve Watkins - Cincinnati Business Courier The Cincinnati Reds are pulling out all of the stops as they play host to this year’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game, even if it means getting big jobs done on short notice. LSI Industries Inc. got the purchase order from the Reds in early June to build a huge video board to go up above the Reds Hall of Fame, facing the bars and restaurants (and the street scene during All-Star Week) at the Banks. The only thing is, it had to be finished in a few weeks. LSI (Nasdaq: LYTS) was in the final assembly stage at its Blue Ash plant and headquarters on June 25, when CEO Dennis Wells took me and photographer Tom Uhlman on a tour of the facility to see the board being made. (Check out the slideshow at right for behind-the-scenes photos.) This behemoth is 19 feet high and 31 feet, 6 inches long. It’s so big that LSI is assembling it in two pieces. Those sections will be assembled late this week, lit up and tested over the weekend, Ross Sferra, LSI’s director of LED video displays, told me. Cont

 I personally have no problem with MLB's restrictions. Vendors pay $400 a year for annual permits. They aren't losing access to any of the normal 81 home games. Plus the City was able to get vendors the right to sell peanuts and water. Maybe the vendors forget that they generally illegally park/stop to unload their vehicles during weekday rush hour traffic and CPD doesn't give them any grief... Reds vendors getting boot from All-Star Game Steve Watkins - Cincinnati Business Courier A lot of the vendors you see hawking Cincinnati Reds hats and T-shirts won’t be there during the week of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and many are none too happy about it. “I’m mad about the whole situation,” said Robert Barnes, a vendor selling Reds and All-Star Game merchandise as well as peanuts and water from a stand at the corner of Second and Walnut streets, a block from Great American Ball Park. “This is my job, and they’re taking away my job.” MLB takes control of merchandise sales at its biggest events, such as the All-Star Game, scheduled for July 14, and surrounding events. There will be plenty of stands for fans to buy official merchandise outside the ballpark, but if it’s within about a mile or so, those stands will be run by MLB’s vendors. The regular local vendors won’t be able to sell anything except peanuts and water. Cont

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s how Roebling Suspension Bridge will get decked out for All-Star Game Steve Watkins - Cincinnati Business Courier The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, one of Greater Cincinnati’s most prominent landmarks, will have a new nighttime look in time for Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game. The committee in charge of the bridge’s lights and flags is replacing lights on its signature towers, Henry Peters, president of the Covington-Cincinnati Suspension Bridge Committee, told me on Wednesday. “The bridge will be brighter at night and stand out more than it has in the past,” Peters told me. “Especially when they show the night views, what stands out is the lights. “The goal is to have an All-Star bridge for the All-Star Game.” Cont
  19. As has been discussed in the Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion thread, Kathy Harrell will say anything at anytime. From this morning's Law & Public Safety Committee, WCPO's Paula Christian tweeted: "Kathy Harrell, FOP president, suggests city council make streetcar "armored," if they don't hire more police officers soon"

  21. Agreed "City workers will be installing stickers on the meters to describe how the pay by phone app will work. " Why isn't this explanation in the app. I've seen people staring at the new pay machines trying to understand just how to pay. Now they also need to read up on how to use the app.
  22. Nearly a year later... Payment app coming to Cincinnati parking meters Business Courier Soon, visitors to downtown Cincinnati will be able to pay parking meters with their smartphones, WVXU reports. An update presented to a Cincinnati City Council committee on Monday said the app could be available sometime in July and will allow parkers to pay upfront or add time to meters. The process could get confusing, though, because the additional time added from a phone won’t be displayed on the meter’s screen. Cincinnati parking manager Bob Schroer said the decision was made not to display that added time because it can take a toll on parking meter batteries. While batteries are guaranteed for three years, other cities using pay-by-phone service have seen batteries fail within three to six months because of the stress on the system. Cont

  24. EXCLUSIVE: Transit union will sue over streetcar operations contract Chris Wetterich - Cincinnati Business Courier The Amalgamated Transit Union will sue the city of Cincinnati and the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority with the aim of stopping SORTA from awarding the contract to operate Cincinnati’s streetcar to a private company, union officials told me on Monday. The ATU expects to file the lawsuit in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court this week, Cincinnati AFL-CIO Executive Secretary-Treasurer Peter McLinden said. The union will seek an injunction to prevent SORTA from awarding the contract on the grounds that the Cincinnati City Council has not yet told the transit agency what type of operations pact it should sign as required by a motion council passed in 2014. It will also ask the judge to order council to make a decision. Cont

Finally, and certainly thanks to the All-Star Game, the 2003 4,192 Bat/Ball Photo: is either coming down or being covered up. Here is what it looked like last week:
