Dixie Terminal turns 100 today. History and Facts: The $3.5 million terminal opened as a port for streetcars coming from Northern Kentucky. The concept of the building originated with the need to alleviate the streetcar congestion in the downtown Cincinnati streets as well as Northern Kentucky. The building opened with 99 tenants, including future Senator Robert A. Taft and the offices of the Cincinnati Baseball Club. The Dixie Terminal Building consists of two buildings. The south building featured the transportation terminal and communications center (Western Union), and the north building was one of the first indoor shopping malls in the nation. Dixie Terminal North housed railroad ticket agencies, the Cincinnati Stock Exchange and the administrative office of the Cincinnati Street Railway Company. Streetcars from downtown Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky ran through the south building until 1936, and then Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) buses ran through the building until 1996. The interior dome was designed by local architects Frederick W. Garber and Clifford B. Woodward in classical revival style with a vaulted arcade suggesting a roman basilica. The dome in the building's arcade went through a four-month renovation in 2017 to restore the ceiling to its original color. (Cincinnati Business Courier coverage about the dome renovation/photos.) The building has been used as scene locations for several major motion pictures, including "Rain Man" (1988), "Marauders" (2016) and "Point Blank" (2019). Soon after Dixie Terminal's opening, the Cincinnati Enquirer published a special issue that included a feature named the Dixie Terminal Supplement. The story included facts about the new building, including sketches and descriptions of the interior artwork and architecture.- Cincinnati: Random Development and News

The restaurant, which first opened in 2016, never returned to full service following Ohio's coronavirus-related restrictions on in-person dining. FC Cincinnati and General Manager Gerard Nijkamp Agree to Mutually Part Ways FC Cincinnati announced today that the club and general manager Gerard Nijkamp have parted ways effective immediately. The club will begin the search for a permanent successor immediately. “I would like to thank Gerard for his commitment and dedication to FC Cincinnati. Gerard has been a key leader in the development in our project – opening of TQL Stadium, improving the roster, player development from the Academy to the first team, and building a broader soccer infrastructure that positions us for success in the future,” said FC Cincinnati President Jeff Berding. “We sincerely appreciate Gerard’s efforts over the past two years and respect his decision to return to his family in Europe. We wish him and his family the best of luck moving forward. With a significant portion of the season remaining, our focus is on improving our play on the pitch and earning a playoff spot. Our search for Gerard’s successor will begin immediately and focus on identifying the leader that best aligns with our ambition to win a championship in Major League Soccer.” Nijkamp served as the club’s general manager since May 30, 2019, guiding the team to a 7-20-10 regular season record. “I’m proud of the foundation we have here and all the hard work everyone has put into it,” said Nijkamp. “I will always be thankful to ownership and leadership for the chance to serve this club. While this has been an exciting opportunity, I have decided to pursue positions closer to my family. I wish the team the best moving forward.”- Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News

REVIEW: Foo Fighters performance in Cincinnati was solid. New Icon Music Center? Needs work. Chris Varias Special to Cincinnati Enquirer The Foo Fighters show Wednesday night was a civic achievement and a pandemic milestone: the first concert at a brand-new riverfront venue, and a sold-out one. Eight-thousand souls standing shoulder-to-shoulder at a rock show, as if it were 2019. As for the concert experience? It wasn’t for everyone, literally speaking. This wasn’t the fault of the Foo Fighters, who did their part by taking the stage at 8:36 p.m., omitting an encore break, and playing straight through and nonstop to the 11 o’clock curfew. It’s just that not everyone could see the proceedings very well, or hear them well, either. Maybe they could smell them, though. “This is a new place, right?” asked Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. “It’s got that new-gig smell. It smells like plastic and weed.” Cont- Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium

TQL unveiling new space at FC Cincinnati’s stadium: PHOTOS By Steve Watkins – Staff Reporter, Cincinnati Business Courier Total Quality Logistics already has the naming rights to FC Cincinnati’s new $250 million stadium. Now it’s unveiling a new space in the facility that features its name. TQL, based in Clermont County’s Union Township, will open the TQL Beer District on Wednesday for FC Cincinnati’s 8 p.m. game vs. Atlanta United. The TQL Beer District is a space on the main concourse in the southwest corner of TQL Stadium next to the Pitch View Club entrance. It features 10 beers from around the world available for purchase. Fans can gather along a drink rail and watch the game from the space, TQL spokeswoman Julia Fulton told me.
