Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
The new name is terrible IMO. "Craig Decker, owner of WG Kitchen & Bar, said the new name will help let more potential customers know that his establishments aren't just for wine drinkers." Now wine drinkers will think his establishments are just another bar in the mix.

Cincinnati Enquirer
I heard Jim Scott's ad where he says he gets all his news from the print edition and Cincinnati.com. Which is odd as I'd figure 700 and 700wlw.com would at least be his source for "The Big Stories" and "The News That Affects You."

Not sure what Winburn was talking about as Washington Park does have public restrooms. I'm not familiar with it's hours though.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Mabley Place (formerly Tower Place Mall)
Dohoney: Deal to buy Tower Place requires mall to be cleared Lucy May - Senior Staff Reporter - Business Courier The city of Cincinnati is getting close to finalizing its purchase of the struggling Tower Place Mall at Fourth and Race streets downtown, City Manager Milton Dohoney told me Tuesday. Dohoney also wanted to clarify something he told me last week regarding the eviction of the mall’s few remaining tenants. I spoke with him Jan. 10 during a bus tour with federal officials to see various development projects in the city. And he told me then that he hadn’t signed any kind of eviction orders to force businesses out of Tower Place. Cont

Taxi Service in Cincinnati
Interesting you bring up the occupied lights. Was out with friends during the holidays and had just closed down Bakersfield OTR. We saw no cabs on Vine so we walked over to Main. Cab after cab went by with their roof light on but passengers in the cab. As it was dark, you could see a taxi was coming but you couldn't tell it was occupied until it was a few feet away. This created a scene of people walking in traffic trying to hail unoccupied cabs. We moved up to Main St. at Central to escape this. The taxi cab driver we hailed explained that Cincinnati didn't have any rules regarding the occupied light and therefore some cabs have them and some don't. Some companies have them connected to the meter box and some don't. And most drivers just leave them on so they can be seen. But he did note that he locks the doors at this hour as the people walking in the street trying to find an unoccupied cab will very often open the door and try to "share" the ride.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Chris Finney: We have passed the point of no return He was a guest of Dan Carroll this past Sunday on WLW. Only link to audio I could find is on the COAST website. Quoting Finney: "They have spent already, they have already spent or committed contractually 42 million dollars. They spent 17 million in cash and they committed another 25 in contracts at this point, so we have, whether we like it or not, passed the point of no return on this foolish project and the city, this mayor and this council are committed to wasting this money." He goes on to say it's still missing 18-40 million for this first phase, and that's before cost over runs which is typical 25% for federal project. And looking out 10-15 years and additional phases, there will be no federal dollars available in his lifetime. Not sure if that's because he thinks Chabot & Winstrup, who he mentioned before this comment, will still be in Washington and ruling things?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
While I would absolutely love a Marion's at The Banks, the build their stores at shopping centers/strip malls. They couldn't afford a downtown location. The rent alone would be too expensive as their stores typically are around 10,000-square-feet and seat 500. This latest Marion's expansion, their first since 1991, totaled $6M for the 2 stores and was paid entirely from savings. It'll be at least another decade before they expand again. Cassano's, ha! It should be noted that the last Marion's to be built before 2012 is the Town & Country location in Kettering. Marion bought a closed Cassano's, tore it down, and built his smallest store simply to prove to his former partner that he could be successful where Vic Cassano had failed. I'm sure Jimmy John's will deliver. Their former 4th St location did but I don't recall the boundaries.

Incredible. I'm sure the old Bartini space is also too expensive.

Cleveland: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame News & Discussion
I can finally visit Cleveland again! :-P Maybe I'll even visit that "piss stain" of a museum. Too bad this year's ceremony is in L.A. Stupid... Rush should have been inducted in 1998. Period. Thanks to recent inductees like Metallica for calling the RRHOF out in their acceptance speech as well as heaps of praise from fellow rockers in Beyond The Lighted Stage. But in the end, it took a fan vote publicity stunt. Something the RRHOF President said this March would never happen: "...the hall would never go to a popular vote, noting that all established halls of fame have an industry voting board that chooses its inductees. “We’re not going to turn this into ‘American Idol’".

Cincinnati City Council
"we have one affirmative answer so far from Council Member Christopher Smitherman" Listening to Smitherman vs. watching Smitherman is like Jekyll and Hyde. On the radio, where the majority of listeners are outside of the city, he is always jovial and thanks callers for their question/comment (when he takes them). During the public comment portion of the Budget & Finance committee meeting on 12/06, he looked either bored or pissed. We'll except for when a 12 year old boy spoke in favor of Media Bridges.

Cincinnati: Pendleton: Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati
Has anyone seen renderings for the new traffic island between Central, Reading, and Broadway? They are using the same stone as is on the casino exterior but it appears they just poured a traffic lane through the middle of it. Too much activity in the area to get a worthwhile picture...

Big Easy and Slammin Burger are indeed closed. Now so is Sarku Japanese and Great Steak, Gold Star closes on Friday, which leaves only Chinese Combo King and Subway. Weird to see only about 20-25 people down there at noon on a Wednesday.

Johnny Rocket's has been closed at dinner time the past two days. Not sure how long this has been going on. Neither their front door or website lists operating hours. While walking at lunch the past few weeks, I've noticed their sign is not lit/turning and the outside music is off. Looking in, there is generally only 1-2 booths occupied. Can't say I'm surprised. Most every co-worker has had a terrible experience and the prices are way to high. Also, not sure what is going on at The Wine Guy site. It's hard to see in the windows but it looks like no construction is happening and no one ever appears to be on site.
