Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The Fishwrap speaks! Streetcar plan details missing Enquirer editorial Imagine you’ve just agreed to buy a car, but the dealership doesn’t want you to know how much the competitors’ cars cost or what kind of features the other cars have. Worse, the dealer won’t even tell you how much your car costs, whether the seats are cloth or leather or what kind of gas mileage it gets. You’d probably take your business elsewhere. That’s a good analogy to what Cincinnati City Hall is asking the public to do. But instead of a $20,000 car, it’s a $20 million streetcar. Cont

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
A lot of families down there both Saturday & Sunday afternoon. There is some seating on the granite with a few trees to provide shade. Also, I was there Friday night and at least the Main Street Fountain lighting went off at 11 p.m. (park closing time?). Was leaving the area and couldn't see if Walnut Street's also went off.

Non-Ohio Light Rail / Streetcar News
News conf. regarding streetcar project turns into shouting match MILWAUKEE — A news conference regarding the proposed streetcar project in Milwaukee turned into a shouting match (raw video below) Tuesday afternoon, May 15th between Alderman Bob Donovan, who called the news conference, and Alderman Bob Bauman, a supporter of the project. It has been 10 months since the Milwaukee Common Council approved the streetcar plan, and tempers are still running high on the issue. Alderman Donovan called the news conference to point out he had written a letter to Mayor Tom Barrett asking him to put the proposed streetcar project on hold. In the letter, Donovan argued if Barrett wins the upcoming gubernatorial recall election, he’d rather the new mayor have a say in what direction the project takes. He’s also encouraging a referendum on the issue. Cont

Ohio Cities' Downtown Population
Report: Downtown Cincinnati population up 12% Business Courier by Lucy May For downtown Cincinnati, 2011 was the year of more: More residents, more office workers and more people visiting downtown for fun. Those are among the findings of the eighth annual "State of Downtown Report" released today by Downtown Cincinnati Inc., the downtown advocacy group. “New, world-class office development, active retail leasing and expanded entertainment options demonstrate that downtown is thriving,” Gina Gartner, DCI’s director of stakeholder services, said in a news release. “In addition, the growing residential community, from The Banks to Over-the-Rhine, is actively engaged in making downtown a great place to live.” Cont

Crave Opens June 11th The next restaurant to open on The Banks will be Crave. This multi-location out of Minneapolis will open on June 11. Their CEO and founder, Cam Talebi, told me they have hired their management team, and are hiring the rest of the staff now-at least 100 people. The “eclectic American” restaurant will serve lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Their menu encompasses salads, pasta, pizza, seafood, steaks and chops. Talebi used the words “vibrant” and “energetic” to describe Crave’s atmosphere. It’s centered on an oversized circular lighted bar made of wood and onyx. A huge wine tower will separate the bar from the dining room. “It’s very chic, but approachable. The menu is value-driven, so you can have a fine-dining experience with no stuffiness,” said Talebi. The Banks trying to round out retail tenant mix Business Courier by Dan Monk The first phase of The Banks retail leasing was heavily focused on bars and restaurants, as evidenced by Tuesday’s news about Yard House opening its first Cincinnati location one block south of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. But the man chasing retail tenants for the Cincinnati riverfront project is planning a different approach with phase two. Mark Fallon, vice president of leasing with Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate Inc., has 125 meetings booked with potential tenants at the International Council of Shopping Centers annual convention in Las Vegas starting May 20. He’ll try to round out The Banks retail product mix in the yet-to-be built block west of the Freedom Center. Cont

Yard House coming to The Banks Business Courier Yard House, a upscale-casual restaurant known for its American fusion fare and huge beer selection, will open its first Ohio location next year at The Banks in downtown Cincinnati. The restaurant will occupy more than 10,000 square feet of space in a new building to be built south of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “We are extremely pleased to be bringing a Yard House to The Banks,” Harald Herrmann, CEO of Yard House, said in a news release. “We’ll be offering our award winning and extensive menu of American fusion cuisine, great rock music and, of course, our vast selection of ales and lagers.” Cont

No indication that any work is going on inside. Property transfered to new owners on 08/04/11. Anyone in the know?
