  7. Email today from Ultimate Air Shuttle: Update on Our Operations Ultimate Air Shuttle will be suspending all flights until the Spring of 2021. Please see below for more details. Dear Ultimate Customer, Ultimate Air Shuttle restarted the Cleveland and Atlanta shuttles this summer with high hopes business travel would return and our shuttle program could help businesses reengage with their customers. Unfortunately, public air travel is still very low due to many cities and states keeping travel restrictions in place. Additionally, many companies still have in place travel bans and plan to continue this into 2021. Due to these continued COVID-19 challenges, we are suspending all Ultimate Air Shuttle destinations until Spring 2021. The last flight date for the Cleveland route will be Tuesday, September 22nd while the last flight date for the Atlanta route will be Thursday, September 24th. There is no action needed by you the customer to receive your refund on affected flights. Our reservation system will automatically cancel your flight and issue refunds to the purchasing card. The positive news developing from this challenging environment is Ultimate Jetcharters, our on-demand charter division. Our team has been busy growing and serving new business opportunities that have developed during the pandemic. The flexibility our company offers clients to experience private charter flights across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean is second to none. Our team continues to add new businesses and serve corporate work groups on our 30 seat jets. Click here to learn how our charter division can save you time and money. We apologize for this disruption of service and are hopeful business travel will return soon. Our team members will communicate regularly with our customer base to gauge a timeline for restart in 2021. The Ultimate Air Shuttle team looks forward to serving all of you again. Thank you for your support!

  10. OTR residents push back over FC Cincinnati Stadium exterior lighting Some Over-the-Rhine residents are pushing back on the design of FC Cincinnati's future West End Stadium, namely its light-up exterior. The Over-the-Rhine Community Council (OTRCC) voted 30-to-1 July 27 to oppose FC Cincinnati's plan to extend its use of stadium facade lighting to include promotions from sponsors and advertisers. As a result, the community council sent a letter to the City of Cincinnati arguing its position, citing a lack of input and concern for quality of life in the neighborhood. FC Cincinnati is limited to displaying its own content and must seek approval from the city before it can extend use of the facade lighting to advertisers. Representatives with the soccer club approached the community council on July 2 asking for support for the plan before seeking approval on an amendment from the Cincinnati City Planning Commission and City Council, said Margy Waller, an OTR resident who serves on the community council. FC Cincinnati’s Lindner: ‘We’re going to lose a large amount of money FC Cincinnati controlling owner Carl Lindner III wants to get back to playing games as soon as it’s safe, even though he knows his Major League Soccer club will take a financial hit without fans. “We’re going to lose a large amount of money,” Lindner told me in an exclusive interview Wednesday. “When you have no revenues and only expenses, that’s a tough business.” FC Cincinnati COO Dennis Carroll said recently FC Cincinnati gets about 90% of its revenue from playing games at home in front of fans. “In Major League Soccer, most of the revenues are driven by the gate, more so than in other sports,” Lindner, who is also co-CEO of downtown-based insurer American Financial Group Inc. (NYSE: AFG), told me. “It is particularly painful as you go through it. But I’m thankful we have long-range-minded investors that are excited about what we’re doing and we’ll get through it.” Cont (subscriber content)

Jaap Stam Named Head Coach FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp has announced the official hiring of Jaap Stam (pronounced YAHPP STAHM) as the club’s new head coach. Stam, 47, joins FC Cincinnati following managerial stints in England at Reading (2016-18), as well as in his native Holland at PEC Zwolle (2018-19) and Feyenoord (2019). Stam had a prolific 15-year playing career which saw him star at some of the highest-profile clubs in the world in the Netherlands, England and Italy – including PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Lazio, A.C. Milan and Ajax. “We are very happy and pleased to have Jaap Stam become FC Cincinnati’s new head coach,” FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp said. “He has an extensive background in being part of some of the most successful clubs in the world as a player and has also proven that he can guide teams through transitionary periods as a head coach. “I strongly believe that Jaap can lead us through our next phase, to our new stadium, and help us achieve our goals in the future, making players better and bringing his knowledge and experience inside the club. I have full confidence that he will be successful at FC Cincinnati and will be a great fit to carry out our established playing philosophy and guide the club to achieve future successes,” Nijkamp said. The new FC Cincinnati head coach will be formally introduced via an online video call with media at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, May 22, which will also be streamed on the club’s Facebook page. “For myself, to get the opportunity to work in America and to work in MLS for a club like FC Cincinnati, it’s a dream,” Stam said. “I’ve always liked the country and I’ve always liked the mentality of the people in the States as well in what they’re trying to achieve. “To get the opportunity to work for FC Cincinnati and this project by building the club – hopefully even further than where they already are, because I think they’ve already done a great job – but being a presence as a team, even more in MLS, getting results and working together with the fans and everybody already working within the club, for me it’s a big challenge to do well.” He will oversee his first FC Cincinnati training session upon his arrival in the U.S., which is pending the receipt of his U.S. P-1 Visa. “We’re excited to welcome Jaap to the club,” Carl H. Lindner III, FC Cincinnati CEO and Controlling Owner, said. “Through this search process, we were very focused on ensuring we had aligned ambitions with our next head coach, and we believe we’ve found a perfect candidate for FC Cincinnati’s next phase. We’re pleased to have Jaap as part of the family and look forward to him joining us soon.” “I want to applaud the search that Gerard led for us,” Jeff Berding, FC Cincinnati president, said. “It was a thorough and comprehensive global search that yielded a deep and talented candidate pool. We’re happy to welcome Jaap to Cincinnati and look forward to him leading us as we start a new chapter of our club story.” Stam is the fourth head coach in the club’s MLS history and its fifth overall, including its United Soccer League seasons (2016-18). He has signed a managerial contract through Dec. 31, 2021 with a one-year club option for the 2022 season. NEW ASSISTANT COACH Also joining Stam’s coaching staff in Cincinnati is new assistant coach Said Bakkati, who will formally join the staff in Cincinnati upon receipt of his U.S. work visa. Bakkati served on Stam’s staff previously at Jong Ajax, Reading, PEC Zwolle and Feyenoord. Bakkati was born in Groningen, Nertherlands, and enjoyed a 15-year professional playing career as a fullback that included stops throughout the Netherlands including Heerenveen (2000-06), ADO Den Haag (2006-07), Go Ahead Eagles (2007-09), FC Zwolle (2009-12) and FC Emmen (2012-15).

  22. Longtime riverfront restaurant permanently closes due to coronavirus A longtime seafood restaurant that overlooked the banks of the Ohio River is permanently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Joe's Crab Shack at 25 Fairfield Ave. in Bellevue is permanently closed. A person who answered the phone at the restaurant said the closure was effective May 14. Bellevue Mayor Charlie Cleves told me he was informed of the closure through a letter delivered by certified mail. The city of Bellevue is the landlord to the restaurant space that Joe's Crab Shack has called home since 2002. Cleves said the restaurant paid the city of Bellevue $120,000 a year in rent, and he estimated another $30,000 in income tax from its workers. Cont (subscription required)
