Voters Will Decide On Streetcar ... Again Opponents Want To Kill Funding For Project Through 2020 CINCINNATI -- Opponents of a proposed streetcar line have generated enough valid signatures to put the issue on the ballot again, elections officials said. The ballot measure, if approved, would effectively kill any attempt to build or operate a streetcar line until 2020. A petition drive netted 10,878 signatures, and elections officials said Tuesday night that 7,657 of the signatures are valid. That's a few signatures above the threshold to put the measure on the ballot. Cont

That total though doesn't include their weekend efforts... Another misleading Enquirer headline. "Streetcar foes rally just in time" makes it sound like they've accomplished their goal while they are actually short by 1507.

The Enquirer obviously follows this board. High hopes for Fifth and Race Written by Lisa Bernard-Kuhn [email protected] 6:55 PM, Aug. 5, 2011 At the northwest corner of Fifth and Race streets, the city’s most prime slice of downtown real estate is waiting. City leaders envision a marquee skyscraper packed with high-profile office tenants and residences. At street level, first-floor retailers would serve as a key link for convention center visitors to Fountain Square’s entertainment and restaurants. But even after nearly $14 million in city investment, the corner is a far cry from leaders’ grandiose visions. “It’s been a parking lot longer than we wanted it to be,” says Patrick Ewing, interim economic development director for the City of Cincinnati. This road trip is already a failure. They should have gone 6-0 or at worst, 5-1. They've lost too much ground with too little time left to recover.

The as-of-yet unnamed operation will join a number of establishments along downtown’s Walnut Street across from the Aronoff Center for the Arts, an area known as the Backstage District. Nick Grammas, who will be the sole owner, said he will spend between $600,000 and $700,000 transforming the former Eye Tech Optical space at Seventh and Walnut streets. Brian Graham, broker with Colliers International, represented the building landlord, Diamond PropertiesbizWatch , in the lease. He did not disclose the terms of the lease but said it was a long-term deal. “We’re going to cater to the late-night crowd,” Grammas said. Cont
