  2. Petitions seek four ballot measures 10:46 am, Apr 28, 2011 | Written by bhorstman Petitions with thousands of signatures seeking ballot measures that would prohibit construction of the Cincinnati streetcar, block a garbage collection fee, prevent a Cincinnati police-Hamilton County Sheriff’s office merger without voters’ approval and allow the city’s mayor to be recalled will be in the hands of county elections officials later today. Representatives of the NAACP and other groups plan today to drop off petitions with about 2,500 signatures each on the streetcar and police consolidation issues at the Hamilton County Board of Elections. The groups already have turned in petitions with 2,537 and 2,137 signatures, respectively, toward qualifying ballot measures that would ban a $20.50 monthly garbage collection fee considered last year during City Hall’s budget deliberations and that would allow Cincinnatians to recall any mayor mid-term. cont
  3. Oakley project gets OK from Cincinnati’s planners Date: Friday, April 22, 2011, 6:00am EDT The Cincinnati Planning Commission endorsed a zone change that could enable a 2011 groundbreaking for Oakley Station, a $120 million mixed-use development planned for a 74-acre site where a cluster of machine-tool factories once operated. Vandercar Holdings Inc. of Oakley is proposing 350,000 square feet of retail space, 250 apartment units, a 60,000-square-foot movie theater and up to 300,000 square feet of office space. The planning commission voted 3-1 in favor of the zone change, with a number of conditions that encourage but do not require the developer to use structured parking to increase the project’s density. The only “no” vote came from Chairman Caleb Faux. “This is like taking a piece of West Chester and plopping it in Oakley,” Faux said. “We should go back to the drawing board and see if we can’t do a little better on this site.” cont

  10. I've been wondering about this since last weeks meeting. Their staff schedules these meetings months in advance! And if I remember correctly, these same two members were absent for March's working session...
  11. Video is up: http://www.wlwt.com/money/27548659/detail.html CINCINNATI -- There's nothing cool about the Cincinnati streetcar, said Gov. John Kasich. The Ohio Republican, who recently said he wanted to raise the state's cultural cachet, defined cool as Jeff Ruby's restaurants, a first-place Reds team, the Ohio River, the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University. But Kasich gave a thumbs-down to the city's proposed transit line, declining to offer his support for state funding that was rejected this week by a transportation board he appointed. The streetcar's supporters said they'll go around the governor to get something started. cont

The guy is clueless... But, I highly recommend reading the comment section! Kasich: We have to make Ohio ‘cool’ 2:19 pm, Apr 13, 2011 | Written by cweiser Gov. John Kasich says he wants to make Ohio “cool” for young people – like Austin or Raleigh. So? What are your ideas? How do we make Ohio cool? (And yes I know someone will offer: get rid of Gov. Kasich.)
  13. Additional signage going up today on the left side of the above picture.
  14. Agreed. NYC to D.C. is under 250 miles! I think Seattle was the more appropriate choice for the west coast what with Boeing the largest player in the fleet's construction...
  15. If you want to see a Space Shuttle, you have to head to the coasts. You know, to woo international visitors. Not the taxpayers who actually paid for their construction. WTF?! Dayton won't get space shuttle The space shuttle will not be coming to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. NASA Administrator Charles F. Bolden Jr. announced that the space agency has rejected a chance to donate one of the four retired space shuttles to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Both U.S. Rep. Mike Turner, R-Centerville and Austria called the decision a slap in the face to the Midwest. “New York and L.A. don’t make a lot of sense. They didn’t make contributions to the program,” Turner said, referring to the shuttle program. “No one in the Midwest is going to have a shuttle. Cont

  20. I know a couple of Forumers were at the Tweet Up last Wednesday. Any links to your pictures? Also, people tend to talk after a few drinks... so I asked about the four retail spaces that are "Under Negotiation". I was told that if you like steak, there is the potential of both a national and a local presence. Details by summer. I could see a Shula's Steak & Sport's working well. As for local, I can't see Ruby opening yet another location in the downtown area.
  21. ^Yup. They were on Wednesday evening as well.
