"We're going to begin working on the policy soon," said Greg Murphy, assistant chief of staff for ODOT Director Jerry Wray. "Maybe in 45 days, six weeks or so, we'll release something on what our stance is on streetcars." cont Note: At the end of the article there is a survey... The Business Courier wants to know what you think. Please click here to take our streetcar survey. It's only six questions, intended to measure whether the Cincinnati business community believes in the project.

  6. Obama seeks $14M for Dayton space shuttle The effort to bring a space shuttle to Dayton is getting a boost from a pretty influential person: President Barack Obama. The 2012 federal budget Obama sent to Congress this week includes $14 million in funds to bring the Space Shuttle Atlantis to the National Museum of the Air Force, located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. Snagging one of the shuttles would be a big score for any museum, by some accounts boosting attendance by 1 million people per year and having a $40 million annual impact on the state and creating up to 700 jobs. cont
  7. News on Keller's: Kellers IGA to meet with Kasich's office Kellers IGA will take its petition with more than 1,000 signatures and its resolution from the Cincinnati City Council to Governor John Kasich's office on Thursday. The long-time Clifton grocery store's co-owner John Vierling will present an official plea as to why the store should be re-opened. "We are just hoping that he allows us to get into a plan where we can pay our taxes. It seems to be much easier to do that if we're open." cont
  8. Missed this Enquirer article yesterday... Mallory, Biden discuss streetcars With groundbreaking on the Cincinnati streetcar perhaps only weeks away, Mayor Mark Mallory met Tuesday night in Washington with Vice President Joe Biden to "tell our story" - and to gently lobby for future funding for the $128 million-plus project. Mallory, in Washington with City Manager Milton Dohoney Jr. for a conference with officials from other cities building streetcar systems to share strategies and review federal funding opportunities, was part of a group of elected black officials that met with Biden at the vice president's house. Each official had an opportunity to discuss an issue of local interest with the vice president, with Mallory using his time to discuss the streetcar project's importance to Cincinnati. cont

  10. Today's casino article makes mention of the streetcar... Casino estimates shrink Fewer seats mean lower tax revenues Ohio's four casinos will open next year with 7,400 fewer gambling seats than originally projected - potentially cutting millions of dollars from new tax revenue to the state's cities, counties and schools. The implications could be felt across the state, as officials debate using casino money for new textbooks, arts enhancements, economic development - perhaps even the streetcar in Cincinnati. cont

Anyone catch the Mayor on Jimmy Kimmel last night? Mallory touts Cincinnati, meets Justin Bieber on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory made a surprise appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” early Friday, in which he bantered with the late-night host and then met teen pop star Justin Bieber. Promotions earlier in the evening for Kimmel’s show, which airs on Channel 9 at midnight, had stated that Bieber would be among the night’s guests. After Kimmel made his entrance, welcoming “the 40 million 9-year-old girls who are up after midnight for the first time in their lives tonight,” he claimed Bieber had not been able to come but that he had found a suitable replacement: “I think you’re going to be very happy. We’ve got the mayor of Cincinnati — Mark Mallory is here.” (Here’s a video clip of the segment.) After Mallory came on stage, waving to the crowd, Kimmel asked him what was going on in Cincinnati. cont

  22. From this mornings online Cincinnati Business Courier article "Kasich: Declining airport puts jobs at risk": Apart from airport news, Kasich had plenty to say on matters of regional import, including the Cincinnati streetcar project. Asked whether Ohio will fund a $35 million grant recommended by the Ohio Transportation Advisory Council in December, Kasich would not commit: “I have (ODOT Director) Jerry Wray looking into a series of things and that’s yet to be determined. I’ve told him that he needs to come down here and talk about it but there’s no decision yet.”
  23. I think the incident you're referring to is when a gun was pulled and there was a huge response from the Fairfield and Forest Park police. I remember watching the ruckus from the hotel parking lot across the way cause I saw all the cop cars on my way home from work. The mall itself wasn't open, just the nightclub. Also, you can't enter the nightclub from within the mall itself, you have to go outside. I had one experience of the Forest Fair club scene. Somewhere around 93-94. And I remember accessing it from within the mall via a escalator. It was a bar "complex" where you paid one cover for access to four bars. Country, Dance, and I forget the other two. Is this now Metropolis?
