  1. Two Enquirer gems in one day! “That train is dead,” but should all rail be? Opinionati Posted by kwellesley November 18th, 2010, 2:14 pm ... Cincinnati had streetcars once, and they were popular. They traversed the city from Price Hill to Milford, and the residents enjoyed them. But they also saw the impracticality of them. According to the documentary “Cincinnati’s Abandoned Subway,” a commuter from Norwood to downtown would need 30-45 minutes to complete a one-way journey, but a rapid rail system could get the commuter there in less than half the time. ...

  3. City adds streetcar project manager Cincinnati now has an official streetcar project manager. Chris Eilerman, who has been working on the project, has been moved up into the title of assistant to the city manager. He'd previously been an administrative assistant, a job title that didn't accurately reflect all the streetcar duties he has taken on, said Meg Olberding, spokeswoman for City Manager Milton Dohoney.

  5. Member of the fire union is standing by the streetcar with a sign promising brown outs, politicians lie, and that the $122M streetcar is redundant. Spoke briefly with him... He: I shouldn't believe that there is a difference between Capital & Operating expenses; All $122M should be going to police & fire services. Me: City Charter; only $64M coming from city - bonds, airport, tif... He: You're believing the lies
  6. "Kasich to Strickland: Cancel all passenger rail contracts" Gov.-elect John Kasich this afternoon sent a letter to Gov. Ted Strickland asking him to stop all work on any part of the proposed statewide passenger rail system – and cancel any contracts. “I am writing to request that you immediately cancel all contracts relating to your passenger rail program in the most cost-effective manner possible, and that you spend no additional taxpayer money on this program,” Kasich wrote. “As you are aware, I am opposed to this program and will terminate it upon taking office. Given that, I am sure that you will agree that it would simply be wasteful to spend any additional money on this program.”
  7. Today or last Friday? Today. I believe all the local TV stations were there Friday.

  9. No real surprise that the Enquirer has not published a story or photos of the streetcar on Fountain Square other than this blurb the day before it arrived. All of the local television stations had some sort of story on it Friday.

  13. More on Tower Place food court Posted by lbaverman November 2nd, 2010, 5:35 pm Gold Star Chili in Tower Place Mall has a lease up at the end of this year, and its owner hopes to renegotiate for lower rent. Sales have been down nearly 4 percent this year, said Basim Daoud, owner of the restaurant and a shareholder in the Gold Star Chili corporation. The lack of shopping at the mall, combined with economic circumstances have hurt the business. cont

  15. Per this Enquirer article, "New Mehring Way nearly finished", all four lanes are expected to by opened by next Monday with some traffic restrictions and there is an event this Friday to celebrate the completion of the new road. Also, the Roebling Bridge reopens Friday.
  16. Was just down there. CPO directing traffic at Mehring Way & Main St. while the lights/traffic signal are tested. Should open sometime today... It appears that traffic will be one lane in each direction using the south side of the road. You can see the westbound lanes returning to the north side of the road in the pic below.
  17. Not even a peep on the retail/restaurant tenants since summer...
  18. Cygnus- this is looking West from atop the Roebling right? Sorry, yes.
  19. Scripps Networks moving HQ to Tennessee Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. is relocating its global headquarters to Knoxville, Tenn., but vows to continue a “meaningful presence” and about 50 jobs in Cincinnati. The parent company of Food Network and HGTV, formed by the 2007 spinoff of the faster-growing cable division of the E.W. Scripps Co. (NYSE: SSP), already houses about 850 of its 2,000 employees in Knoxville. The designation of Knoxville as its corporate headquarters means the company’s annual meetings will likely be held there in the future and the company’s top executives will spend more time there

  21. I'd think that Apple wouldn't open a store this close to a campus as the bookstore already sells their products with the education discount. A second Apple Store in this area would more likely fit downtown/The Banks or somewhere over in NKY. I think a Trader Joe's would do very well in this area.

  23. Weekday circulation slips 6.5% at Cincinnati Enquirer Business Courier - Tuesday, October 26, 2010, 2:56pm EDT Weekday circulation was down 6.5 percent for the Cincinnati Enquirer in the 26 weeks ended Sept. 26, according to new figures released by the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The Enquirer’s combined average paid circulation (Mon-Fri) stood at 157,574 during the period, a reduction of 10,937 from the same period in 2009. Sunday circulation declined 1.1 percent to 255,037. The Audit Bureau numbers also reflect a 3.3 percent gain in home-delivery paid circulation, which the Enquirer’s parent company attributes to a 2010 attempt to “improve the Sunday experience” for readers and advertisers. 24. A sign outside of the CRG's south entrance (third pic above) states that it'll reopen 10/30/10. This afternoon they were prepping for the concrete pour on the west side of the Robeling span. Stripe it Friday and it should be ready to go Saturday I'd think. Any news on an "dedication" ceremony or something by the City/Park Board?
