  1. I was wondering that as well... They are moving along quite nicely without one though. In fact, where they have poured the ground floor concrete, they are starting to assemble scaffolding for the next garage level.

Link above is (somewhat) broken. This link will take you to the article. And ugh... "Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney said in late August that the city has made aggressive incentive offers to FTPS, but he also indicated that a lack of available downtown parking could be a problem." How about the traffic nightmare at 71/Fields Ertle/Mason-Montgomery?!?
  3. They're constructing a crawler crane on the corner of Walnut St. & Berry Way. Not sure if this is for the Walnut St. Fountain construction or for drilling piles on the eastern half of the Freedom Center lawn. Guessing the later as I can't see this type of crane needed to construct stairs/fountains.
  4. Servatii Pastry shop coming to Fountain Square Servatii Pastry Shop and Deli has signed a 1,750 square-foot lease for space on Fountain Square, Fifth Third Bank announced Monday. The store will be located in the southeast section of the Fifth Third Center tower, on the corner of Walnut and Fifth streets. A grand opening for the new store, which will feature Servatii baked goods and a European-style cafe, is planned for early 2011, according to a news release.
  5. Topper's Pizza to open in Clifton ...selling pizza, subs, quesadillas and more, mostly to college students. That’s their market, rather than the families that most national pizza chains are going for. They do a lot of delivery, on college student hours, from 10:30 a.m. until 3 a.m. every day. There are also seats and carry-out, but it’s not meant to be mostly dine-in. They don’t sell beer.
  6. Phase II's first horizontal concrete pour occurred yesterday. Also, Channel 9 was shooting some video of the site today.
  7. New name for The Banks apartments via Cincinnati.com Current @ The Banks is the new name for the first apartment community under construction now at The Banks riverfront development downtown. Developers Atlanta-based Carter and The Dawson Co. said in a release Thursday that they picked the name because it shows “appreciation for the Ohio River” and is ”in keeping with what will be a hip, yet sophisticated place in which to live.” - Riverfront apartments get new name: Current @ The Banks via Business Courier of Cincinnati The riverfront apartments being built as part of the first phase of The Banks riverfront development have a new name: Current @ The Banks. The name was announced today by the project’s Atlanta-based master development team of Carter and The Dawson Company along with Village Green, the developers’ residential leasing partner. In addition, the project’s residential leasing center is now open to the public and no reservation or appointment is necessary.
  8. These names irk me as well. I also believe it creates confusion for visitors. In the downtown area alone we have multiple honorary names that really should just be secondary street names. The two block stretch of Vine St. that is now Rosa Parks Drive Main St / Joe Nuxhall Way 1st Street(?) / Freedom Way I'm even for making both Pete Rose Way and Merhing Way secondary names and having Riverside drive continue on from the East End, through The Banks, and over to the West side. Call me crazy...
  9. A lot of steel went up yesterday on the NE corner of Freedom Way & Walnut. This little sliver had been used for staging. Anyone know why this building is separate from the apartments/retail? Also, more bricks up...
  10. I always felt that Bootsy's should have been a bar/club, not a restaurant. What little I've read about "The Grill" doesn't much excite me.
  11. Wow... great to hear that 12th St. is being considered! It would seem to bring much more potential than Central.
  12. Um, you sure about that?

^ Ditto. Worst "ice cream" I've ever had.
  14. Ah, Skylab. Used to love that ride.
  15. Cincinnati Magazine article on Great American Tower: http://www.westernsouthern.com/pdf/082010_CincyMag.pdf Also, the construction elevator is being disassembled.
  16. Anyone know why the Mythos in the Chiquita Building hasn't reopened after their June "vacation"?
  17. All the floor plans I have seen include laundry areas... But I believe they are talking about a drop off/pick-up dry cleaner, not a self-serve laundry mat. This would not only cater to residents but business workers who park in the garages.
  18. ^It's called outdoors.
  19. Work on casino to speed up By Alexander Coolidge • [email protected] • August 17, 2010 Matt Cullen, the top Rock Ventures executive overseeing the development of downtown Cincinnati’s future casino, said his company is working closely with its Harrah’s Entertainment to finalize a design team and blueprints as they prepare for a ground breaking by the end of this year. Cullen said the pace of the business relationship with Harrah’s will “dramatically increase” after last week’s announcement the gambling giant would invest in the casino and manage its day-to-day operations. He said a design team is expected to be in place with 90 days. cont.
  20. Mentioned in this article on the Casino, a few bits of information on The Banks. A Widmers perhaps? Work on casino to speed up By Alexander Coolidge • [email protected] • August 17, 2010 ... Also speaking at the event at the Receptions Banquet & Conference Center in Erlanger was Trent Germano, vice chair of Carter, who provided an update on The Banks development under construction on the Cincinnati riverfront. The Banks developers haven’t announced any retailers for the first phase, but Germano said they won’t include any apparel retailers. cont.
  21. 8 million people who haven't seen the rock band that has the 3rd most consecutive gold albums...
  22. Agreed. Little to no maintenance has been done, it's very narrow in areas, and the bricks are very uneven..
  23. Yea, I was surprised that wasn't mentioned.
