Cincinnati: Downtown: Fort Washington Way Cap
How to connect the Banks to downtown Cincinnati Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Lucy May Courier senior staff reporter The city of Cincinnati is studying ways to strengthen the connection between the Banks riverfront development and the southern edge of downtown to make it easier for pedestrians to get to the development from downtown. Among the ideas are acoustic panels to buffer the sound from Fort Washington Way and wider sidewalks. To get from Third Street to the development, pedestrians must cross over sidewalks that span the Fort Washington Way expressway. In a letter to the Joint Banks Steering Committee, developer Trent Germano suggested several ways to make that crossing a bit easier. cont.

I had no idea Windsor was a destination for international gamblers… What kind of Harrah's casino will Cincy see? BY ALEXANDER COOLIDGE • [email protected] • AUGUST 14, 2010 Caesars Cincinnati? Harrah's Cincinnati? Horseshoe Cincinnati? Now that the world's largest casino company has been tapped to run Cincinnati's future casino, the question becomes: Which of Harrah's Entertainment's three marquee casino brands will gamblers here see? Harrah's isn't saying, but industry observers don't expect to see a Casears Cincinnati. That nameplate is the company's luxury brand, reserved for markets that specifically court international gamblers. Only four Caesars casinos exist in the world: Las Vegas; Atlantic City; Windsor, Ontario; and Cairo, Egypt. cont.

Banks to require retail subsidies? By Laura Baverman and Lisa Bernard-Kuhn • [email protected], [email protected] • August 12, 2010 DOWNTOWN - It may take more than just a riverfront address to lure the first retail tenants to The Banks development. Local officials expect the Atlanta-based development team of Carter and The Dawson Co. could soon approach county and city officials with a request for financial help to secure leases with the four restaurateurs and bar operators they say are interested in the 70,000-square-feet of space now under construction off Second Street. "There is going to have to be some sweetening of the pot to lure tenants," said Hamilton County Commissioner Greg Hartmann. "I don't know (how much). It will have to be a combination of offers from the county and city." Cincinnati City Councilman Chris Bortz said the city manager had alerted him early this summer about the possibility of a request by developers for help. Bortz advised against it, at least until more details of those tenants had been revealed. cont.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Ol' DanB is all over the internets talking some smack! From today's ESPN article on the suspensions/fines: DanB from Ohio (8/12/2010 at 4:44 PM) "I cant believe how idiotic you people are..1st Phillips runs his mouth, then expects Molina to be cool being touched? Hell no. Then you have Rolen pushing Carp all the way back, and Cueto being a #### kicking his spikes..No need for that, if you want to jump in dont be using your spikes. The Cards are the best team in the NL and some pretenders such as the Reds will come back down to earth after this episode when the Cards get redhot. Division leaders? St Louis Cardinals..screw the Reds, lost all kinds of respect for the team just south of me..Cleveland has much more self respect then the Cincy Reds, joksters!"

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
Cygnus replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentJust heard a rumor that Servatti will open a pastry shop in the 5/3 Building lobby on the southeast corner (behind Graters). Target is Spring 2011. It will not serve sandwiches due to the building's lease agreement with Potbelly's.

Flew over downtown yesterday on approach to CVG. QCS definitely appears as Cincinnati's tallest. Was returning home from my first trip through Charlotte. Their newest skycraper, Duke Energy Center, looks fabulous. And looking at Bank of America Corporate Center, I'm left imagining how Scripps Center would look with that kind of height.

Rethinking Transport in the USA
Cities tackle traffic head-on with commuter options By Larry Copeland, USA TODAY MINNEAPOLIS — The morning rush-hour traffic on Interstate 35W is crawling. The highway, which connects downtown Minneapolis and its northern and southern suburbs, is the busiest road in the state. When traffic snarls here, backups spread across the region. A year ago, Peggy Birler, 45, would have been right in the thick of it, spending up to an hour driving alone to work. Today, Birler has a much shorter commute: She drives less than a mile to a Park & Ride lot, boards a bus for a 10-minute trip downtown, zipping along in a bus-only lane, then walks 1½ blocks to her office. cont.

I can not see Montgomery Inn leaving the Boathouse for what would be a much smaller space. A Dewey's downtown would be awesome.

Good guess if it's a restaurant operator. I've always found it strange that there isn't a dine-in Larosa's downtown. Maybe there used to be? But it also could be a local bar operator. Maybe 4EG?

Cincinnati: Bars / Nightlife News
Tried to go to Passage last Friday and got turned away because two people in our group of eleven had tennis shoes on. They also had an officer outside which surprised me as it was only 9PM. We took our business down to The Main Event where they had a cover charge because they had a DJ in. The place was dead though and we got them to waive the cover. Place was still dead at 1AM when we left for Neon's. Anyone know if they get busy after all the other bars close?

The Banks moving close to signing four tenants By Lisa Bernard-Kuhn • [email protected] • July 21, 2010 DOWNTOWN - Four letters of intent have been signed by prospective tenants interested in leasing space at The Banks riverfront development, officials said Wednesday. No deals are final, but the potential tenants include at least two restaurant and bar venues of which one is a locally known operator, said Trent Germano, vice chair of Atlanta-based Carter which is partnering with the Dawson Co. on the $80 million project. All told, developers are working to lease roughly 70,000 square feet of retail space that will compliment 300 apartments being built now off of Second Street and Freedom Way, between Great American Ball Park and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. cont.
