  1. "If there was a "black neighborhood" where people were willing/able to buy $600,000 townhouses, there'd be more investment there." Exactly where can you find this neighborhood in Cincinnati or outside of the ultra exclusive neighborhood that members of my family live in. Read, members of my family who live in LA. If we can just get a half decent wealthy ethnic enclave in the city that'd be great. But as for this project I hope they add some Palladian elements into the mix.
  2. I would pay for quality if I also got a beter district for my money. You pay for place so if there really isn't any difference in the area around my home I wouldn't pay more.
  3. ^No, I mean the Uptown Consortium because that facade if it's really that impressive would be pretty good to have as part of stone masonry museum that should rise up on Short Vine in order to provide a strong historical linkage to an area which will soon have few remants of regional history left. In fact an exhibit on the great masonry works that exist within the area could be a part of an exhibit at the Corryville library and it could further tie together preservationist, the arts community, and UC's DAAP program. Or I could have just made a slip of the tongue.
  4. If the facade should be saved then Uptown Consortium should step in and get it. Right now it looks like crap and the reason that I think people want to save it is because of its impressive size. It's a shame but I'm hoping that a new statement building can go on that site.
  5. The east side could still be saved though especially going about a block up from UC you get some nice variations in architecture but that's tearoff from what will go up on the west side.
  6. I never really felt uncomfortable going to the Fay. It was home to alot of my family's friends but this development is really needed. The land and the people deserve better.
  7. Borders are large footprint stores which are great for rents now but bad for rents in the future because there spaces have to massively reconfigured to accomodate smaller stores which will take those spots if the business were to fail. That's also the reason that Border's wont soon open downtown it's a real hard sale with the retail space that we have right now. Tower Place would have to redesign extensively to accomodate a bigger retailer. The spaces inside would be better for boutiques but that ain't going to happen for a few more years.
  8. What's great are the numerous support companies that exist across the region to serve these companies. The problem I see is that our local company could be a little more diverse.
  9. ^Agreed with the post above this is more of a poverty laced issue because as long as gas ticks up slowly people's responses will be moderate; people will grow complacent with their situation but not dramatically changed. However, with the situation that we have right now with housing and job growth being hit at the same time as spikes in gas prices that will result in longer term change. Streetcars are just good infrastructure policy for the country as a whole.
  10. I'm confused but intrigued by the Jakarta one if it looked anywhere near close to it's rendering I would definitely want to visit it. It's daring.
  11. The CNBC/China Business Network television program called Managing China uses an image of Cincinnati's downtown as its primary background image. When the host does his studio one on one then they use a slightly altered image of downtown Cincinnati with the Central Trust, Carew and 312 Walnut clearly visible. I thought it was pretty cool. It's actually fairly common for promotional material in China to include altered images of America to convey prosperity and the like While I was in Chengdu I kept noticing images of New York and I think it's cool that a leading Chinese business program uses Cincinnati as its backdrop. Check out Managing China on Channel 137 on Time Warner Cable's Digital Package. Set up your TIVO or DVR to record the show and see it for yourself.
  12. The furniture is scaled for smaller living environments. Their showrooms are usually on the main floor where they show you what the environments would look like with their furniture included, nothing revolutionary. However, the quality isn't at all bad however it's not the type of solid maple, oak that'll last a few generations. I would look at their furniture as good for 10 years. The swedish meatballs are okay but I've never really been a fan of them in the first place as I try to lay low on the pork.
  13. ^^^That sounds like recipe for disaster here. This sounds like the projects for the homeless. However, this does bring about a good point which is where do you move the poor into the city. Do you place them in Avondale, move more to Price Hil? Also what types of skills and jobs can these people get. If rent is at $500 a month where do they get the money to pay for this unless they get $13 -$17 an hour jobs; I work with kids whose parents are dealing with these issues right now and beating down the hope of these kids while at it. Some are working two jobs to get it done but many don't have that network of hope to get their stuff together easily. I'm waiting for the city to put some visible leadership behind these issues and it seems like I'll be waiting for a long time.

Add in the 47 which serves most of North Avondale if you can.
  15. The Brewery District sounds like a great idea but does it have funding? or a community of wealthy people behind it to get it going? It seems like a lot of good talk which of course is a good start but it seems to me that OTR and it's next door neighbor the West End have a lot of good ideas but the money seems pretty limited. I know that I've got hope for the area but the way that development is staggered it'll take about a decade to get the vibrancy back. I support the Brewery District however idea though especially some of the renderings that I've seen from Niehoff look amazing. Has anyone heard dollars and cents when it comes to this project?
  16. Good stuff here indeed I wonder if there were any solutions offered to this problem in the news.
  17. I really don't like Cranley serving on this project. I also have a problem with Chris Bortz's possible conflicts of interest with Towne Properties around town.
  18. Has anyone seen the properties above the Niehoff Studios on the corner of Vine and Daniels. Those are some nice spots. I like the Steak & Lemonade spot on the street reminds me a lot of the seedy but good places that I frequent in the Chi and in Queens.

    thanks
  20. Yeah i read it since we get it for free. It mostly talked about the Banks and the new construction that's going on in Cincinnati despite overall market softness. It was fairly positive despite pointing out some issues. Nothing too dramatic there but great to get coverage from a quality rag.
  21. To their defense please then why not just build a garage then. Okay I could possibly see Surface lots as cheaper than a garage to operate and little view compromisation but a good garage can be designed to be no more than just 3 stories and still preserve the views reasonably.
  22. Really I love the winter in places like New York and Downtown Chicago for the fact that you can just walk down the street and duck into a little store you never really new existed or get a bit to eat at a spot that's actually hotter than the one you had planned on going into. I think this is one of those things that people don't know that they want this until they have it. It sucks that the location closed ubt it's my feeling that Newport only really works for a few businesses there most of the suburban kids that step onto the levee really only support a few select businesses. It's a really unstable location.

Hey does anyone know how to get to Oxford without a car? I'm trying to see just how hard it is to get to places without having a car since I currently don't have one. Is there bus coverage in Oxford?
  24. A serious push could spark those older ring suburbs to opt in to beter ties with each other as in moving them towards soft-unification.
  25. If you had a little more volume that could bring down the price but units wouldn't be as nice.
