  1. There might be an uptick in racial diversity but probably not a significant increase. Maybe in the 2020 census.
  2. I do not support tearing this down. But if I understand the situation correctly and please let me know if I do not. This is controled by a party actively seeking to tear it down. That party has full control of the property and should be aware of the widespread opposition to its destruction but does not care. While I don't support tearing the structure down; this sounds like a private property issue to me. Many in the public don't want its destruction but those that control the property do. I like the city getting involved in this but I don't like the way they are going about it and I can't support the eminent domain push.
  3. WSJ article on high speed rail - read more at: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703305004575504180006530598.html# High-Speed Rail Stalls Freight Carriers Balk at Sharing Tracks With the Faster Passenger ServiceArticle Interactive Graphics NewMarket Quotes By JENNIFER LEVITZ Opposition from freight railroads is threatening the Obama administration's multibillion-dollar push to make high-speed passenger trains an integral part of the U.S. transportation network.
  4. Has anyone been inside the tower yet? Is it impressive?
  5. I've been to several casinos in Macau and it's similar to what others described - bus loads of the elderly. If there are some nice shops attached to the building and some good strategy games like poker tables than you'll get a more diverse crowd but if we're talking all slots than you'll see an older demo.
  6. ^^A taxi stand outside of Kroger would help considerably and could be operational fairly quickly. I like the idea of the streetcar as a good circulator but there's really not too much in place (maybe the bus) right now.
  7. Not much green or orange.
  8. I like the Cosentino's but I don't think Cincinnati will get a major operator downtown. Kroger already has an OTR store and not likely to get a big out of towner to come in and take a risk on downtown Cincinnati. For me, if there was a stronger cab culture or a neighborhood shuttle bus then Findlay and Kroger would work fine for downtowners.
  9. Completely agree with the above post. The Freedom Center will have a greater impact when the Banks is complete.
  10. Why would anyone need to go outside of OTR or Downtown for groceries? What are people buying that they can't get downtown somewhere? Just to clarify, most grocery stores carry upwards of 50,000 items - for downtown what's the big miss? Is it just that shoppers like the atmosphere of huge stores?

What does Servatii's add to the square there are already alot of light food shops near the square?
  12. None of these new fangled buildings have anything on the Carew.

What's street life like in this area? By this, I mean do people actually get out of their cars and walk around or is this a car focused small city - you'd be hard pressed to find people going out for a stroll at night, for example.
  14. Take some pictures if you can. I would love to know thow this looks even if it looks like it should've never had been done.

    Needs a little more grit.
  16. I like it...could use a little more green space but overall it's not too bad. I thought I would see a lot more people though.
  17. One of the relatively untalked portions of the plan is the non gambling entertainment that will come. I'm looking forward to comedy acts and smaller productions coming to this place.
  18. Well the cool thing here is that with the streetcar perhaps CP can realize its potential and we can get a really nice and long district happening.
  19. ^got it. I've heard that we'll have the most modern streetcar in the midwest - so that must mean that we have the latest and greatest trains. For me - since I've mostly done heavy rail I'm mostly making the comparison between the trams of Nantes, France. Nantes uses the Incentro designed trams - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incentro
  20. Great view - good for condos, nice apts, and some restaurants. It would be nice to have the incline but first thing first focus on the streetcar.
  21. What's the capacity of the cars and operating speed? Also, how many cars are going to be bought?
  22. East west line should be the 2nd phase of the streetcar because it's a pain to get to this location.
  23. I expect that you'll continue to see conversion for some of the older buildings downtown.
  24. The streetcar makes living in OTR inifinitely more livable for example if it takes about 15 - 20 min max to make it from OTR to the Uptown Plaza area then for grocery shopping and other activities this is actually fairly convenient. I take the subway to the grocery store all of the time - I could see it opening alot more possibilities here for Kroger there essentially build a stop right at their doorstep or within 50 meters and I think the city could put some pressure for them to create a true urban store.
  25. If I were the short vine developers I would seriously reconsider the new Uptown Plaza concept. Do they really need to go so suburban with a streetcar running pretty close to the facilities. The city should see if they can convince the uptown plaza developers to change their plan.
