2010 Gubernatorial Election
Kasich should choose his words more carefully when he's communicating his positions and should not advocate a hybrid public/private structure without considering the larger effects. Moving the agency from government hands to private hands doesn't mean that bureacracy will end - its just a shift. Also, it's not clarly explained how decision making would be any easier - seems like instead of doing this he could spend more time spelling out his vision for Ohio and how that fits for Ohio's cities, suburbs, and rural communities. Moreover if the board is going to have oversight over tax dollars then this board needs to be a governmental entitiy. To me Kasich could use the organization that he's proposing to help guide his economic policies but he should not be seeking to replace an entire department with this organization. All in all this sounds like he put about 10 min of thought into this idea. Does anyone know where to get the Kent Markus opinion? I can't search lexisweb in China.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I think the Banks will help change that. It'll be a source of pride for the region.

2010 Gubernatorial Election
For people in government to constantly say that government is ineffective...For a potential governmor to say this... Real leaders do not denigrate their teams.

Would love to see this poll paralleled with a general history/civics test.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^That was a typo I meant to say dry cleaners not a laundry mat. The Dry Cleaners would be nice to have specifically since the area will be upmarket and some of us need our suits freshly pressed.

Cincinnati: Pendleton: Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati
Not a big fan of smoke free completely. I think there should a well ventilated area where people can light up if they would like.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^I've got the exact opposite feeling. Give me a laundry mat within spitting distance of my apartment and I'm a happy man.

Mingo Junction, Ohio
Looks like a neighborhood of a larger city. Never heard of it before why is is so popular?

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
^Definitely this is key for me and my family. A huge part of the reason to move to an OTR or a Downtown etc is because of convenience, if you eat a lot of ethnic food like authentic Sichuan, Cantonese, Indian, Moroccan, Ethiopian, Brazilian, Mexican etc then you'd want to see those options in or near the neighborhood. If there's a good delivery service that can mitigate the lack of this option but to be honest not having these options in OTR gives me a little pause. I'm likely to move down there or downtown anyway when I move back to Cincy but I do hope a few more of these types of places pop up in the area.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
from the enquirer: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100731/NEWS0108/8010302/City-suburbs-feud-over-rail ^That City leaders took this tactic right before the deadline is ridiculous. From the cities perspective it makes sense and they're playing hardball but that this wasn't more strongly discussed earlier with the Eastern Corridor proponents is in poor taste. Many of the civic proponents of the Eastern Corridor project are the same ones behind the streetcar.

^Depends on the pricing and if we're in contention.

Cincinnati: Pendleton: Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati
I don't know so much abou h need to have one down there. I've gone to an event or two at the Convention Center and while nice , I don't think that there's a draw yet for the type of arena that's needed to pull pro style boxing off. Also, the casino abuts a neighborhood so I worry how multiple events can be pulled off without causing a potential headache. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the development but if the casino is a 24 hour venue, this could be a headache for Pendleton.

If they do I hope they find a way to use it.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^I hope that city leaders take the opportunity to make the front door of the city truly unique. Would love to see the restaurant community of the region get behind this in a special way.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
There's only so much space down there that will house retail, restaurants, etc. When they go about leasing the place I hope that they take a sensible approach and fit things together in the right way, things don't have to go together but you know a place feels right when it has an identity. At the end of the day, I hope that they don't go the suburban mall leasing route but instead lease it the right way. That's why I'm really excited to hear who they'll have down there in the area. Really excited about Moerlein coming online nearby.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I like this a lot more than the SWFC. I currently live in Guangzhou but used to live in Shanghai and would pass that tower everyday - ridiculously tall and auspiciously similar to a bottle opener.

yea those shots above are spooky...absolutely devoid of human beings.

Can't wait to see it in person would love to know how it stacks up to some of the talls and supertalls built in China over the past few years.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Give me a neighborhood that doesn't cater to 14 year old brats.
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Really I don't want the Banks to cater to everyone - I get tired of places feeling like they have to do that. Give me a serious place to have a drink, have a meal, and watch a game.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^Where is that? Also, Dewey's would seem to work better at fountain square than the Banks. To me the Banks screams, adult playground - beer garden, serious riverside restaurants, museums, stadium etc. Dewey's is more of a family friendly establishment that would work better around the square.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Mabley Place (formerly Tower Place Mall)
That was a fairly insightful article. I wish I understood the continegies that the author seemed to be hinting at in the piece though. How is Macy's and the others tied to Tower Place? Is it more of an indirect connection - Tower Place would help boost foot traffic downtown or is there something in their lease? Either way Tower Place needs the type of push that the Banks has received - massive organized support.
