Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
The Scene....typical negativity from them. What do people think a Mart is? I think it is a place to showcase items for people that plan, design, build and run medical facilities....like hospitals and nursing homes....etc. It is not meant to be a fireworks display of futuristic cancer curing machines....that is what a convention or trade show is for....to show off and wow people....which they will have occasionally. The day to day stuff, like hospital beds, waiting room furniture, dentist chairs, wheelchairs, antibacterial surface materials/paint/carpet,...is not going to be glamorous. It is what is it is, a one stop shop for said people above to visit and plan on what to fill a medical facility within the budget they have. The technology will be there at the big shows when the tech companies rent temporary space to showcase innovations and future technology. There is a reason why at NEOCON, Herman Miller and Steelcase are not throwing big over the top parties in their medical furniture showrooms...it's just not an "Exciting" segment of the biz.

They just opened this place in Uptown called Papa Ray's and I really like it. They are locally owned and the service is great. There is also a location on West Fullerton that is close to Logan Square, so they probably deliver there. http://www.paparayspizza.com/locations.php The pizza isn't thick as hell or cracker thin which seems to be all you can get in Chicago...and I am not a fan of pizza in Chicago. It is more like what I used to get in Ohio which is closer to being NY style I guess, or reminds me of Luigi's in Akron....if that makes any sense to you.

Trip to Chicago MLK weekend!
EL ride/Walking tours Red Line: get off at Belmont, walk east to Clark, walk north to Addison walk east to get back on the red line at Wrigley/Addison. Shopping, bars and restaurants the whole walk, plus see Wrigley. Brown Line: Get off at Armitage for good boutique shopping Blue Line: Get off at Division, walk north on Milwaukee Ave to Damen and get back on the train at Damen. Lots of shopping, bars....etc also along entire walk For a quick weekend you will probably only have time for one museum if you really want to get out an explore the city as well. I'd say the Art Institute and some ice skating in Millenium Park would make a nice day Downtown. Museum of Science and Industry is a fav of mine, but you'd have to take the #6 bus to Hyde Park. Skip Shedd, it's expensive and hoarded by kids....and you'll be waiting in line outside on one of the windiest spots along the Lake. Get a great view from the top of the Hancock without waiting in line or paying. Go in the entrance on the south side of the building and tell security you are going to the Signature Room. You can have drinks in the bar on the 96th floor. Keep your eye on the window seats and swoop in when a party leaves

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Nobody has mentioned that a lot of SLC light rail expansion was due to the 2002 Winter Olympics, not that they are more progressive IMO. SLC is definitely NOT progressive, it is very much ruled by the LDS church. Anything that gets done there...they have a hand in it and have money. They had such a problem with pedestrian accidents downtown that they have flags in bins at crosswalks that you wave when you cross the street to stop cars. It also has pollution hanging over the city that looks like LA in 1974. The great salt lake is polluted and ugly. Cincinnati is way cooler.

Pet Peeves!
I hate that one too...there was one for teeth whitening that kept popping up....so if her discovery is that rinsing your mouth with chlorine bleach will whiten your teeth, we should listen to her because her credentials are being a "Mom"? Kinda like that Airborne stuff invented by a "teacher".

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
I saw the story about the Beachwood "Riot" on the local news when I was home. They repeated the footage about 8 times during what semed to be a rather lengthy news slot devoted to reporting on it. I guess they needed to burn it into people's brains that BP is now a war zone. To me it looked like a scuffle between some kids at the mall, not a riot. Unless there was more to it than what was in that footage, it was completely blown out of proportion.

No, it's the Barcelona Pavillion...and it's an amazing space! "The Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was the German Pavilion for the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona, Spain. This building was used for the official opening of the German section of the exhibition.[1] It was an important building in the history of modern architecture, known for its simple form and extravagant materials, such as marble and travertine." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona_Pavilion

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^I think it's more the me, me, me boomers that voted for the guy...I am talking older over 70. Most I have met still feel they have a duty to pay for things that make the country better for the next generation. My 80 year old father has never voted down a tax levy for schools in his town...despite having sent 6 kids to private schools. They usually aren't "liberals" per se, but they lived through a massive expansion of infrastructure improvements in this country and understand the greater good IMO.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
The bottom line for me is, the 7th most populous state in the country will not be well be connected to a national high speed rail system. The state capitol, which is fast growing and has one of the largest universities in the US will not be connected to a national rail system. A state that trends to an aging population will not be well connected to a national high speed rail system. This irks me the most. What an FU to all the aging tax paying Ohioans that don't have access to alternate forms of mobility. They should all take their money and move to Florida! Ohio doesn't care about them.

Random true stories I thought I'd share of why Ohio needs this: I have a boss in Chicago with a son at Case on a football scholarship. He is considering pulling him out. The reason is that Grandpa wants to see his grandson play football. He can't sit in a car for 6 hours for medical reasons, and won't deal with flying. Amtrak time tables make that option unfeasible. My boss will not put Grandpa on a bus...hence no greyhound or Megabus, which I don't blame him...I wouldn't put my parents on either one either. With 3C and Cleveland as transfer point, I'm sure we'd get better Amtrak service and reasonable time tables. The son loves Cleveland and Case and does not want to leave...btw. My father just had a big party for his 80th Birthday in Akron. His best friend from college lives in Columbus and could not make it to the party. He can't drive for eyesight reasons...and he is 80. Had a train been an option, he would have been there. 3C to CVNR possibly. My mother offered to drive to Columbus and get him...but that is just crazy. My father doesn't like to fly anymore either, and since he fell asleep at the wheel and flipped his car, he doesn't like to drive long distance anymore.....which means anything over an hour. I have a friend in Chicago that cannot get his elderly mother to visit from Youngstown. She has back problems and can't sit in a car for long periods....not even the 2 hours to CLE, CAK or PIT airports. Megabus is not even an option because it doesn't go to Ytown. Ytown airport is not operating commercial flights. Amtrak doesn't serve Ytown anymore. There must be tons of other stories just like these. How many kids don't go to Ohio State because of transportation issues? How many colleges in Ohio don't allow Freshman and Sophmores to have a car on Campus? How many other older Ohioans can no longer get around thier own State by themselves? Ohio needs better choices. This is so frustrating!!

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^That stretch is a pain....there are so many trucks and cars battling for room, it's NOT a leisure drive at most times of the day. Once you get out of the city it should be a pleasant cruise, and it is just not, plain and simple. An alternative is needed for sure. Try to set your cruise control at maybe 73. It won't be on long.

2010 Gubernatorial Election
Here is the newsflash though, there is not going to be a revolution ever. There is no way in 4 years anybody could get everything done they want to do and make apocolyptic changes to a huge entity like a state government, especially in a horrible economic climate. Make a laundry list of goals for yourself to accomplish in 4 years, and at the end tally up if you were able to accomplish them all. Make sure to put lofty goals like, "I have -$10 in the bank now, and I want to have $1,000,000 in four years. We have become a country of attention deficit, schizophrenic, instant gratification idiots. No party will EVER get anything done as long as people only vote from news pundit talking points, and sound bites. Until people examine the issues and facts, and vote more thoughtfully we will be stuck in this back and forth war of the parties and nothing will change. Not for Ohio, or the US. Kasich is horrible though no matter what party you are

Chicago apartment help
^I doubt at this point your able to find anything along the brown line under $1000 for a decent size/or in good condition....except maybe at the stops past Western Ave/Lincoln Square. It's the Yuppie line pretty much now....especially Roscoe Village and Southport. MLOhio: Advice I would also give is beware of deals that seem too good to be true...strangely cheap apartments in great neighborhoods. The city is still full of slumlords, and if it seems too good, it probably is. Could be infested with roaches, bedbugs or even rats and mice. Also CHECK WATER PRESSURE. For some reason, that is a big complaint for a lot of people....esp in old buildings.

If he is so religious, swearing on a Bible is a big deal...and has deeper meaning than a tradition. If you believe in the Bible as the word of God, and you swear on it and then lie...u surely go to hell (I think is the belief). I would think you would want someone to swear on something they think is very holy to somehow get them to tell the truth....so why not use what they believe in. I hate this guy.

Chicago apartment help
If you want to be near the lake, check the Buena Park section of uptown...Sheridan Station on the red line. North of Irving Park, South of Montrose, East of Sheridan. It is the safest part of uptown...an extension of Lakeview at this point. It will be hard to find a decent apartment under $1000 in any of the hotter neighborhoods...but good parts of Uptown you might. - Reasonable rents compared to Lakeview/Wrigleyville just south of Irving Park - Close to Wrigley - On Lakefront/bikepath - Lots of Express bus service to N Mich and loop - New Target Store, Jewel (Grocery Store), World Gym, Borders, a few bars and restaurants, local coffee shop. There is not a ton of stuff...but enough to serve most needs - Can easily/safely walk to North Lakeview(tons of bars and restaurants) - Dog beach at Wilson Beach. Dog Park area behind Walt Disney School...not sure if its legal but they run around unleashed. - Great old housing stock, and you will get more for the money than Lakeview/Lincoln Park. I would also check the Margate Park section of Uptown, Argyle Red line stop (Little Vietnam/Asiatown) for even cheaper rents and lakefront access....but stay east of Sheridan Rd, North of Lawrence closer to Lakeshore Drive. A new Dominicks Grocery Store is about to open there that is very nice and new-urbanist at Foster and Sherdian
