Cleveland Heights: Development and News
Chicago streets that are marked "Snow Route" ban street parking overnight when the snowfall reaches 2 inches. They are mostly arterial commercial streets. During the warmer months periodic steet cleaning bans go into effect on certain days for one side of the street. Both would deal with the derelict car issue.

And also do away with overnight street parking bans on most streets. I recall that being a thing in areas like Shaker Square (only in the SH areas) and Coventry

Cleveland: Cultural Gardens
Seems like some of those groups should do a better job of getting the word out, and reaching out to the governments of those countries to donate money as well, besides the local support.

Best Ohio Suburban/Exurban/Rural Downtowns
I'd say Bellefontaine, Canal Fulton, Findlay, Port Clinton. Honorable mention, poor Mansfield

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
And that Lady with her folksy farmer thing is tired. "farmers know what farmers need and don't need to be told anything by non-farmers". Farming is a business, big business, and businesses are regulated....by the EPA for one. Tell the people in the Toledo region farmers know what they are doing the next time a super algae bloom cuts off potable water for hundreds of thousands of "non-farmers" due mainly to farm run-off. They don't have a say in it? And what's with the fake smarmy smiling of them both. Ugh!

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
Agree! And I have zero kids and pay for other peoples kids public education. My property taxes are high, but I don't feel entitled to a payout.

Do you have traditional cable TV service in 2023?
Mine (Astound/RCN) is also bundled into my HOA 5G high speed internet package along with TIVO, HBO and MAX. It's a really good deal, under $100 a month for all of it so I can't complain. It's really good service too.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
This type of impropriety is rife with architecture firms historically and gets no traction in the general public's opinion of them unfortunately. It will not doom this at all. Gensler on the other hand is run like a fortune 500 company and not a partnership.. The ethics standards and pratices are pretty high. They actually have HR that enforces ethics rules.

Huge asset of the city for sure. Is the Shoreway still a parking lot during fireworks? It used to be.

I have to laugh because vistitors to Cleveland are practically slapped in the face with the "Rock and Roll" marketing at every turn...seriously 😄

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
^OfficeMax used to be HQ in Shaker Heights (till 2003?), right near that old Chagrin/Warrensville/Northfield intersection if I recall correctly, so at one point they had a decent corporate tax base. Taxes were still high for residents though.

I never really thought about it, but I like the idea. A people mover tram that shuttles people over the river. Similar purpose as a sky tram or fernicular, a short mode of public transport that overcomes a challenging geographical feature. Could be a catalyst for future extensions too.

I agree with your boss, keep at it and hone it. Good radio voice

Columbus: Random Development and News
metrocity replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionBe careful what you wish for, Downtown Columbus does not have a dearth of surface parking lots. Fill those in before you talk about tearing down a decent size skyline building that serves a viable purpose, dud or not. Cbus is not NYC.

Cleveland: Union Terminal (Tower City)
The Van Sweringen brothers had big ideas and gave Clevelend a GIFT of this skyscraper with a train terminal in the heart of Downtown. We need to honor that effort and bring it up to its full potential. I would love to see this happen, and Cleveland would get national attention if they could pull off a multimodel transit center like this....connected to a freakin airport no less

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
Lets not forget, with the labor shortages hitting a lot of businesses, especially restaurants, the businesses at VAD can tap a labor pool easily from lower rent areas along the rapid since it offers an easy, reliable and generally quick commute. That's gotta be a great selling point to opening a shop there in todays labor climate, and how this development differs from Crocker, Beachwood, Pinecrest, Eaton...etc.

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
My Catholic elementary school had the same, a permanent trailor staffed by the local public school district, or maybe the state? Kids that were behind got tutored in "the trailor", and I recall hearing, eyesight tests and stuff being done in there. The people were allowed in the building though because I recall them coming to get kids. Our core curriculum books were also stamped with the local public school district. It was in Stark County but in the Youngstown Diocese. We didn't have any Nuns. The convent house was offered to the Principle as a residence if they wanted to live there.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Bridgeworks Development
I wanna say Mary Rose Oakar lives or lived in a giant beautiful house in Ohio City, so maybe that's where her point of view comes from. However she is stuck in the past on this issue.

Toronto: Developments and News
Toronto has the "missing middle" because of how it was sleepy then exploded in the 1970's. Older 3 story walkups and side by sides, and single family homes and then tall modern skyscrapers. Walk around and try to find mid century 5-20 story offices or apartments, its tough. That said I love Toronto.

Cleveland: Retail News
My condo building has retailers that own the space, Grocery store, cleaners, amazon locker room, restaurant, chiropractor. They all pay monthly assessments, and pay special assessments according to the square footage they occupy. We currently have a special to replace the 1962 era galvanized steel plumbing and boilers and fully modernize elevators. The fact that we have those retail spaces to help in those costs is a plus when owning in the building. But a retailer would need to factor that in.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
That kind of juxstapostion is exactly what will make the city cool in the future. Less teardowns, more infill and restoration of what is salvagable nearby to keep the integrity and soul of the city while moving forward.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
I usually hear generally positive things about the big cities in Ohio from outsiders for real. The stigma is OHIO after the name! People bash Ohio like crazy. Cleveland and the others have an Ohio problem, not a city image problem IMO. I say I grew up near Cleveland, the response is usually positve if someone has visited. Saying I grew up in Ohio, I get a negative response...backward, conservative, hell hole. Just my experience living in a liberal city. Michigan, WI and PA seemed to have changed the trajectory of their rust belt perceptions. Ohio has not...not one bit, and it gets worse each year. The cities fight an uphill battle with the state.
