Cleveland - Tyler Village and PC Helps Thread
^I know there is the #1 and the #3....both mainline routes that go right past it and I'm sure people ride it to work there. My problem is the website makes no mention of pt at all for a development practically in the heart of the city. This could be one of the biggest amentities to prospective tenants and in a lot of cities it would be and would be a main selling point. It's dumb for the developer to not tout this in the amentities section of the website. It just irks me because it happens a lot. The fact that RTA is treated like a complete afterthought most of the time needs to change.

Cleveland - Tyler Village and PC Helps Thread
I didn't know what this "Tyler Village" was so I had to check out the website. Looks like a great place to work! I find it disturbing that the website does not mention anything about public transportation access at all. "easy access to freeways", "underground garage"....blah blah. Good RTA access needs to become a listed amentity for these new developments....it is important other places even more than the damn parking. Aaargh, sorry for the rant, but the mentality is so strange when you are trying to sell this "hip" new office space to prospective tenants from all over the country. This seemed like dubious claim claim as well.. "The Tyler Village complex sits in the heart of the St. Clair Superior neighborhood. This dynamic area is home to 63 restaurants and is one of the few neighborhoods in Cleveland with a grocery store, drug store and a drycleaners"

Mall
If you google "Dixie Square Mall" you'll find lots of other pics of this place at various states of decay. The suburb of Harvey is one one of the most corrupt, messed up and broke cities in Chicagoland. I think Gary, IN is run better than that place.

Akron - Under Construction
While that would be a cool thing to have, it's not needed at all when the Central Interchange is a few miles away and does a fine job of connecting 76/77 and rt 8. I think money would be better spent on turning it into a great boulevard that opens it up to development and re-connects the city to the neighborhoods to the west. Imagine how much cooler it would be if Goodyear developed it's new headquarters right along the boulevard with room to expand. Might be an opportunity to get Goodyear located right Downtown and possibly Firestone.

Akron - Under Construction
Wow, there is a lot going on down there, good for Akron. Don't forget the Northside Lofts and Chrissie's new veggie restaurant and the new art museum (which I really like). Now, if only the mayor would get his wish and get that Interbelt freeway to nowhere torn out and made into a boulevard.

First Visit to Cleveland (Day 2 of 4)
I believe "Nuclear Free Zone" refers to a ban on transporting Nuclear waste through the city, much like the "HC" crossed out signs you see on the Freeways around the city. I always liked the horizontal lines of the museum's modern addition, but I think I am in the minority with that opinion. It is very simple, and takes a back seat to the original beautiful building. One of the best phot threads I have seen on Cleveland. Nice to see the city through a newbies eyes.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
I have quite a few friends that work for Limited Brands and they have a rather large offices in NYC (SoHo to be exact) for all the brands with dedicated design teams. They also fly private corporate shuttles twice daily between Columbus and NJ (one each way in the morning, and one each way in the evening) to shuttle folks back and forth. In addition, they fly them to Europe for inspiration trips/Paris trade shows....etc quite often. Les Wexner is a super smart businessmen and puts a lot of effort into keeping the stores competitive, and as long as he runs the show, I don't think it is going anywhere. If something happens to him, then I'd worry. When you used to see "New York Design Studios" on Express clothing...that was actually real

North Randall: Randall Park Mall
An old architectural model of May Company Randall Park. They really changed the style of the exterior with this design from the other suburban stores.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I agree, the fare system is terrible and confusing....I never know when to pay. I think when Chicago's original farecard system was put in place, the revenue generated made a huge jump, and the upgrade actually paid for itself after a few years because of employee theft, token fraud and the situation where a huge crowd would bottleneck, and they would end up just opening the gates to get people through. There was a Mexican coin that would work as a token and it was virtually worthless in the US.

Show a pic of yourself!
Do you actually hate Aon, or does this harken back to Standard Oil/Bp Amoco? I bet BP wishes it hadn't leased the building to Aon, they are now looking to bring the HQ back downtown from Naperville because they can't recruit talent way out there. Fun Fact: That entire building was re-clad in granite when the original marble started falling off due to the climate. Sorry about the pixelation, I generally don't like to post pics of others without their consent.

Wow, shut up! Good for her! I love how she used to change out of her fancy dress after her act...she'd come out and mingle in the crowd in a Pantsuit.

Anyone know good examples of new urbanist chain hotels in suburban locations?
Believe it or not, near O'Hare, one stop away at Rosemont, there are quite a few hotels and a convention center within walking distance from the train station. There are actually sidewalks the entire way down the street that lead to the hotels which tend to be built more like an urban setting....not much setback, taller buildings, parking garages and entrances that are ped friendly. The Donald E Stevens convention center is built right up to the street too and is within walking distance of the hotels/train. I know it doesn't look that way from the train for anyone that has ever ridden past it, but it is just south of the station, near that rencen-esque Tigerman Hyatt. I have actually walked to the Embassy Suites for a wedding, and was surprised how easy and ped friendly it was. I wouldn't call it new urbanism, but decent-suburbanism that uses the train access to it's advantage. Not sure if it's quite what you had in mind....

Aggressive behavior only perpetuates the stigma of pt being unpleasant.....If you want to sit down, a simple "may I sit here" usually does the trick. Judging by the most recent articles posted, a lot of people riding pt as of late are newbies and may not know the unspoken rules....esp in a city like Cleveland (or most US cities) where cars and personal space dominate. In highly public transit cultured cities, people generally know to not take up seats with bags or block seats.... as well as to move to the back of a crowded bus, to not block exit doors, to stand to the right on escalators, to take off a backpack, to fold a stroller or grocery cart, to give up your seat for someone who really needs it....etc. If the current gas price trend continues, this is only one more indication of how people in the US need to re-learn how to be courteous to one another in a public forum.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I have many girl friends, not one of them wears pantyhose ever, and pantyhose and a skirt = seat?? ....Seriously? If a woman is pregnant, she should let it be known, and ask to sit down. Again, I have watched young girls sit with pregnant bellies in their faces, and elderly people in front of them but they are women, so they deserve the seat I guess. Anyway, back on topic. This is a problem I am glad to see that RTA is having.
