  1. I just saw the IKEA truck with a furniture display on the back drive down Vine in front of Lavamatic.
  2. Thank you Mike, I thought that Project Beacon was going to be located further south and was a separate project. Thanks for the clarification. I believe I heard them say yesterday that they may be doing even more buildings than just the one, all in the same area, but multiple buildings.
  3. My meter does not seem to be moving, or at least very very slowly. But there is an update since the last post, now I just received a $384 water bill. My water is shut off, I verified that. The meter is not moving. I have another neighbor that just received an $800 water bill. I am getting a bit fed up with the utilities here and they do not seem eager to fix the problem and simply say the water must have gone somewhere. My house would be flooded if that was the case.
  4. I assume we are talking about the same one. Kevin has it on his blog as well. http://www.building-cincinnati.com/2008/03/1502-vine-fast-tracked-for-demolition.html
  5. I just like to use adjectives, it sounds more exciting!!!!<just like my use of multiple exclamation points, its just crazy. Is that the all stone building on the East side of Vine with the barriers out front? If so I heard there was a roof collapse and that triggered an emergency tear down. As for the Elm St Industries building it was my understanding that it was going to be redone. I just heard this for the first time yesterday so I have no details.
  6. New News. I just heard that the Elm St Industries building (that I think is not actually on Elm but I am going to say Race and Liberty) will become a new arts center. Someone can fill in the blanks for me I hope but it was a major arts group (I only say that because I had actually heard of them) will be relocating from Hyde Park to this new site. Liberty is shaping up with Vernons corner, Grammers, and now this building. We just need to stand in the way of Cricket at the old KFC site and we will be good.
  7. And I appreciate that, but I am certainly not the only one down here doing this type of work. It amazes me the number of people that are working every single day to turn around OTR and the numbers are growing daily.
  8. Just found out today that the OTR Chamber has indeed sent a letter to 96.5 and Brian Tiffany has also said that they will be taking a more proactive response to the misinformation from all media.
  9. We could always approach Ollie's Trolley for naming rights.
  10. I like the variety of having several different versions but all pointing back to the same thing, community pride. I like the European stickers for the simple fact that OTR just fits so perfectly into it and considering we were basically designed after a European city, it is fitting. But once again, it is just one more option for people to show their support.
  11. Each of these are done and will continue to be done. If it is naive to debate then ok, I will be naive, I will waiste my time doing that and perhaps no ones mind will be changed, perhaps not even the passive viewers. Preaching to the choir was just brought up to me in another thread as being a waist of time as well so I will simply choose to split my time between the two. Bottom line is advocacy is advocacy. I simply would like for people to hear the other side, whether they believe it or not will ultimately be decided by the facts but I would like for them to at least have a reason to have to look at the current facts vs the historical opinions. We need to update Wiki but I am not sure how to go about it so anyone who wants to take a lead on this, go for it. Any information that I can give you about anything, just let me know, but I need someone to upload it. BDRUF, you are my hero, you know that right?
  12. This is not my understanding. I have always thought that specific schools draw from specific areas. ex. if I live in Pleasant Ridge then I would not go to Western Hills High. Magnet schools do draw from the entire dist. but have testing requirements making the vast majority ineligible to attend. These certainly are not limited to elementary schools and do include SCPA and Walnut Hills. CPS covers the entire dist, however individual schools do not. Am I wrong? If not, then this does mean that if you do not qualify for a magnet then you would have to go to the school designated for your area, for me I believe that would have been Woodward as I grew up in Amberly. So if Woodward was and under performing school, and it was at least at the time, then I would have been out of luck had I not been able to get into Walnut Hills. This makes the system, as I understand it, a competitive one. Not in giving one choice of where to go to public school, but a competitiveness between urban vs suburban systems as seen with many families opting to move out of the dist so there child can go to Sycamore schools etc. This puts the City at a major disadvantage as it makes it difficult to draw in families inside the boundaries and that lends to a diminished tax base. A voucher type system negates that advantage to some extent.
  13. I would not say that. It is to challenge the local media outlets and give items that promote community pride to anyone who wants it. Bottom line is that we need to do something other than just complain that there is a negative perception that does not reflect reality.
  14. You may be right, it is amazing how many people stop me at stop lights and ask what OTR means.
  15. Did anyone see Cheryl there.
  16. I know one for the pulse and the enquire. Max, can we get a sticker that just says OTR that is like the oval European stickers?
  17. and there it is. "Monday's meeting was preceded by negotiations - which failed shortly before the committee met - on an overall proposal that would give more assurances about building the Uptown half of the proposed system. Opponents want nothing done without more guarantees; supporters want to move ahead in Over-the-Rhine while planning for Uptown" Was the referendum only just proposed or is it definite?
  18. Surely we can raise that as well. We can put a donation jar at Miltons or something. As for the bumper stickers on the cars, just kidding  No one should ever do this  I am firmly against this.
  19. How about this. Lets do an I HEART OTR like Max developed for the bumper sticker and then list each of the sites. We can raise enough money between us to get an ad. If each of us put in $5 we would have enough. We can funnel it through a non profit and get lower rates. Also put on there that if you bring in the ad to Park and Vine you get a free bumper sticker. And $50 to anyone who can put one of the bumper sticker onto the cars of the two DJ's at 96.5.
  20. Well for anyone who thinks that we don't need a more active PR machine here in OTR....this from another thread. "I was listening to 96 Rock this morning, and one of the DJ's from the Two Angry Guys made a comment on OTR in regarding the current development and the conviction of the kid who was charged with murder. He said he would never go to OTR and encouraged everyone else not to go there because it is what it is. It will always be a hot bed for crime and drugs and no matter what is going to happen (i.e. development, opening of new restaurants, streetcars), let the criminals have it and STAY OUT" This will simply go unopposed.
  21. 96 Rock's advertisers should receive a letter from the OTR Chamber, OTR Foundation, and OTR Community Council asking them to urge the station to issue an appology. We will never get one, but it would certainly be a shot across their bow and they would think twice before saying crap like this that hurts the development, new restaurants, and streetcar along with a lot of other efforts here.
  22. There may not be a need for those who are familiar with the other boards. But for those who are not and happen to stumble across a channel 12 forum, I just want to see some counterargument. Even the people who are posting up the negative comments about OTR should have reason to pause in the face of credible opposition vs a forum that does nothing but reinforce their misinformed views. Also, keep in mind that the sites you mention above have a positive cumulatively affect, but the opposite is also true when when we can point to a handful of sites that have a negative cumulatively affect so call it a study in gorilla marketing. It may be a waist of time but at least it is a cathartic waist of time so what do we have to loose?
  23. Edale, For far to long misinformation and negativism about both OTR and Downtown have gone unopposed. I refuse to sit back and read things like OTR is the most dangerous place in Cincinnati when it isn't, or the prosecutor making statements like he would never let his kid venture into OTR. We complain that there is a negative perception about this neighborhood that is not always backed up by the truth. How can we complain if we do not do everything we can to right the wrong? Will this do any good? I have no idea, but at least if someone googles OTR and one of these sites pops up, both sides are represented. They have been good at getting the negative word out, but we have not been as active as we should be about getting out the positive word to balance them. Should we let this just go unopposed and just hope no one reads it? This is Channel 12, not an untrusted sourse to most people. "I do not feel safe in Cincinnati. I use to go there but i no longer do. I avoid it". I am only asking that you give your honest opinion. I am not giving talking points, but just asking that people give a fair and honest debate in the face of one sided, negative, and very destructive opinion pieces. Ok, I have posted and am awaiting moderator approval.
