Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
lets see if I can spin it back. That's down 712 students from last year's count of 35,508, a 2 percent drop. Since 2001, the district has [glow=red,2,300]averaged[/glow] annual decreases of more than 3 percent....proof of the district's rebound" Although my math is a bit rusty, I would still say that they "average" 2.86% annual decrease in enrollment. And that is probablly better than reality as I assumed exactly 3% although they said "more than 3 percent."

Now that is a spin!

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: School for the Creative & Performing Arts
I like Mike Morgan, but look closer at who pulls the strings at the Foundation and why these specific questions are brought up This action takes place at a time when there is a lot of mistrust between the neighborhood and CPS. Morgan points to the following questionable CPS actions: * The demolition of four transitional housing structures on the north side of Washington Park that were bought from the Drop Inn Center * An unadorned, blank wall on the back of the new SCPA which will face Washington Park, which Morgan equates with CPS "literally turning its back on Over-the-Rhine" * No plan for the vacated SCPA building and its surrounding greenspace * An announcement that they may raze Rothenburg school, despite prior recognition of its role as a neighborhood anchor (no one believes this will happen, not Mike Morgan, not Liz Blume, and certainly not me but it is a great diversionary scare tactic) Would the Foundation be ok with an announcement not to tear down Rothenburg and sell it, and to build a new school in the greenspace of SCPA allowing the existing school to converted? If Rothenburg is sold for the right use, ie American Red Cross this benefits the entire OTR area, not just pendleton keeping their park. If a "neighborhood school" is so important to the Foundation, put it in Pendleton, they have the space in Marge's and Ty's back yard. Do what is right for all of OTR, not just Pendleton.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Well, look at Gateway. Restraunts include Jean Robert, and a big player to be named later--Retail including Park and Vine, Metronation, Mica etc. And huge amounts of residential.. the commitment was done a long time ago by 3CDC which already owns vast amounts of property along the line.

ahhh, wait a tic.... Someone forgot to tell me! I seem to remember interviewing her along with Sweeney. I am going to have to ask if I work for her now.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
quick question (I fully support the street car by the way) Sounds good except for the primary owner of Peebles Corner is Larry Rhodes, you could put Jesus on the corner and that would not spur this man to do anything. P.S. watch channel 12 at 5 or six and see my friend Paul Yankee (and Ed) discuss the impact for the bars on Main.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
3CDC (and I am only speaking for OTR) but saying them alone is not entirely true however they are the impetus for all of the change, crime and otherwise. If that is not true, then why did we not see OTR turn around before, if it was as easy at simply putting more police on the street? This is not to discount the police, but I believe Capt. Jones would be the first to say that without development, greater enforcement is a containment measure, not an elimination or eradication one.

YES! but it is not entirely deserved.

Michael L. Redmond replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell I do know of one other that was going to throw their hat into the ring on those lots so I do not know if Doug is a done deal or not in regards to the cities lots.

Michael L. Redmond replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Constructionyes, it is the one next to Larry Rhodes building that is coming down. I would be surprised if the burned building comes down because I believe it was going to be gutted anyway, now they have the insurance money to redo it. The outer shell is still intact. It does appear that Doug Spitz is preparing to do something on his lots all around this location, I hope to know more in a couple of weeks.

Michael L. Redmond replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionPerhaps I missed it, but where are you moving from? The reason that I ask is that many of us on this board including xumelanie, jskinner and others have the benefit of history in OTR. From the scope of redevelopment (100 condos a year for the next 4 years) to increased business investment including Jean Robert and the reopening of almost every bar on Main and all of this supported by the political will of the city and the powers that be. Attempts have been made in the past by the few, but without the support of the many--this time is different. I made an investment in OTR, and I like to think I have a good sense of what is happening going forward in OTR. I have put my money where my mouth is and I say that Gateway is the real thing. Can something happen tomorrow that will effect your investment? Absolutely, but we are at a tipping point and you have much more to gain than you do to lose.

Cincinnati: Court Street Center II and III (CBD)
Sounds to me like his modus operandi is to float an idea, see who bites, drive up his value, then back off. Well it may not be court st. but Urban Sites has some interesting ideas on 9th with the old Lawyers Title Building.

Cincinnati: Mount Auburn: Inwood Village
Understood, however I wish to reiterate the need for a push by everyone who would like to see Mt. Auburn begin the same path of change as Uptown, downtown and OTR. If an area the size of Inwood can have the negative impact that it has had over the years by being a vacant site with the fostering of drug activity and prostitution--just imagine the positive impact that a new, totally rehabbed, 68 condos from affordable to luxury can bring. Inwood does not exist in a vacuum, it impacts the community as a whole either negatively or positively, and we now have a chance at the latter. So call the counsel members, send them an email, or stop them on the street and tell them we need INWOOD!

Cincinnati: Mount Auburn: Inwood Village
This project is not abandoned, it is still moving forward however the city needs to step up to the plate and take care of the property they own that is dotted all around this site. Pauline has worked very hard to come to a reasonable agreement with the city and she is very close. The mayor has said this project needs to happen and we have most of counsel on board however there are a few that either do not understand the importance of this site and its redevelopment, or simply have other priorities outside the turnaround of the area that links uptown to OTR and downtown. One really cool change in the plan is the Glencoe Hotel that might find its way back into the boutique hotel business. So many great things can happen if counsel will step up to the plate and do what they have already promised to do, but we need to tell them. If anyone knows any of the counsel members personally, ask them--if anyone is at any of the "meet the counsel" meetings, tell them--we need Inwood!

Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
I agree with you, but for some reason the feeling is that Vine is in bad shape. I was just inside the school no more than a week ago and it looked fine to me so I do not know what they are referring to specifically, the thing isn't even that old in comparison. As for the second part, I am a Walnut Hills grad so I take some exception to that but I understand your point in general.
-
Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
Exactly my point. I can not see a better location. No teardowns, they already own it, new const, no hillside....whats not to like about building it there? It makes all the sense in the world, which is exactly why it will not be built there.
-
Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
I disagree, too small for what? What is the size of the building? And they already own the land, flat land at that, buildable land! They don't own the parking lots, so throw in aquisition cost (I don't think they will get very far with eminent domain) and I believe that makes Broadway much more appealing. So my vote is the park in Pendleton. We keep the Rothenburg building, we keep the old Woodward building (SCPA), Vine can close, move Wash park, we get a new, cheaper school, similar to the dream you described above. Pendleton residents should welcome that right Max? Wasn't it Ty who showed up on channel 9 pleading for a neighborhood school about a year ago? Or do they not want a "neighborhood school" in their back yard? I know I as a local would be more than happy to see this alternative pursued.

I do not know why they don't just reuse SCPA if you are looking at lots on Sycamore. Or if they are set on a new building how about in the park that CPS already owns next to SCPA?

Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
Well partly. Rothenburg will not be rehabbed, torn down, or rebuilt. But here is what I did not see coming--KD Lamp? I just spoke with Liz myself and she says CPS is highly unlikely to pursue a teardown (well they may pursue, but not get) and KD Lamp is a possible location for the new school. Learn something new everyday. I still think the best course of action is to keep Vine but they say it is in bad condition, I don't see it, but they say it none the less.
-
Cincinnati Public Schools: Development and News
I had several conversations with people after this article came out. Do not worry, Rothenburg will not be torn down, rehabbed, or reopened--it will be sold. I liken this to someone saying instead of buying this 2 million dollar house, buy this 1 million dollar house, its cheaper--it doesn't matter if you can not afford either one. CPS levy will fail, Vine Elem. will remain the elem. school for the area and Rothenburg will be sold off.
