Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
UPDATE The armed robber, caught on the street by the residents within 24 hours, positively identified, trial and conviction. Case closed. The lady whos car was set fire, turns out it was an old boyfriend. Not a random act. Car breakins have stopped (they can always come back anywhere, anytime) we believe it was stemming from a person picked up and arrested in Pendleton. The bullet in the ceiling, random gunfire at New Years, happened in a lot of places and unfortunatly we have our share of idiots still in OTR. And CPOP is about to begin some of our operations in conjunction with Vortex on E Clifton, Peete, Mulberry, Rice, Loth, Thill,. The first CPOP to cross district lines.

Cincinnati: Mt. Auburn: Development and News
Michael L. Redmond replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell that was the plan, and still may be. However the argument that he had with the community and with Historic really upset the Fielers and the requested that we just sell both of them. Now this could still change, the argument is still fresh in their minds so who knows.

Cincinnati: Mt. Auburn: Development and News
Michael L. Redmond replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionOk, I am having a hard time keeping up with what is coming to the East side of Mulberry at Mulberry and Sycamore. I heard today that there will be 7 new construction homes 3 on Mulberry, 4 on Sycamore (or vise versa) I am still trying to find out the particulars. Vinyard Homes now has two lots on the south side that Jerry can now build two seperate houses as opposed to two with a common wall. Doug Spitz has torn down 1 building to give him what looks like 6 lots, 3 on Seitz and 3 on Mulberry, I have not seen the plans yet. Plus lots on the south of Mulberry and going down the East Side of Main OTR housing Network actually came in with some nice plans for new const condos on Mulberry and Peete, market rate but with a soft second. GBBN is the arcitects so despite the original knee jerk reaction I usually have when I hear a building project by Mary Burke, I will say her organization seems to be coming through on this one. Joe Gorman appears ready to begin building on either Seitz or Goethe or both, I believe it is Goethe. Foundations are in at Frank's 2 houses on Milton, I will probably officially have them on the market here in a month or so. This is the year for the hillside!

alchemize's Building for Sale
vs. This is typical Nick Spencer. I believe he is a good operator, but beyond that, Nick does nothing to help himself. I realize a lot of people here supported Nick's run for Council, but could you imagine what he would say about our own city the first time he did not get his way on a vote. The enquire says they are working on a story to tell both sides here but I do have a questions just in comparing Nick's first post with his letter of explanation. Did he just change his mind?

Where did you find Urbanohio????
This was my introduction to Urbanohio. (I was the real estate agent by the way) Now here we are almost 2 years later, still upsetting people from time to time, but loving the site.

alchemize's Building for Sale
This is why it is never a good idea to burn bridges. With all of the good news coming out about OTR right now, crime falling month over month, Jean-Robert announces he will be locating a restaurant in OTR, and bar after bar signing on to Main Street. June 08, 2006, 01:55:24 PM this was said, not even a year ago. Things were changing then, and Nick said I was "spinning" reality. Now here we are, 10 months later, Main and the rest of OTR has serious momentum behind it, and I do not even know if Nick could show his face down here again after saying what he said so publicly. I hope that he has learned a lesson--do not burn bridges-- because things do, and have changed, even without him.

Cincinnati: OTR: North Main Street Discussion
I think that this was a big part of our problem originally. It is wonderful that Main grew so organically during the 90's but in doing this none of the lessons were learned early enough to provide sustainability. Marketing is a must, and there will be a cost, a substantial cost. This is what we are trying to provide a solution for now.

Cincinnati: OTR: North Main Street Discussion
I personally have always thought that Main should spill into the streets, not simply be confined by the glass of the storefront. Second Sundays is a step in the right direction but we need to add to this on a more permanment basis with outdoor dining, entertainment that is actually on the street. Now this involves street closure but this is easy enough to do on Thurs, Fri, and or Sat nights. However before anything, we have to make sure that the people who want to come down to enjoy whatever we put on Main both feel safe and are safe. This is not going to be an easy task but a doable one. Much of what will make Main a better and safer is the redevelopment off Main. It has proven to be an impossible task with criminals that are only a block away. Gateway, and the countless other projects that are taking place all around Main Street is what is bringing us back, but it will be a comprehensive approach that will keep it going this time.

Cincinnati: OTR: North Main Street Discussion
Oh my God, I forgot Pitifuls, still open and Bob is doing well. Alchemize is being reopened by Purgatory will be Ocho Rio and Red Cheatah, I am not sure what the working name is just yet. Upscale? yes, but beyond this. Before anyone will return to stay on Main we have some safe and clean issues as well as branding. With Overall crime in OTR being down over 80%, that message needs to get out but the fact remains that there are some "quality of life" issues that need to be addressed as well. That being said, there will be a price tag associated with turning the street around, the question was, how do we pay the bill. Without getting into any specifics, lets just say the street has been paying the cost of crime, of business loss, and negative publicity for a very long time in lost revenue, lost rent, and lost property values. Main Street will be more than bars and nightclubs. This does not mean we will not continue to be the entertainment district but entertainment alone should not be descriptor for the street. Despite what you may have read, the naming or rebranding has not been worked out and we have many things to do before we will concern ourselves with the details.

Cincinnati: OTR: North Main Street Discussion
Anyone want to go back a couple pages to my discussion with Nick Spencer. "The greatest change occurs at the edge of chaos" Now where are we today? (I will use old names to help identify locations) Alchamize at 12th and Walnut-Reopening Vinyl-still open Neons-Reopening Red Cheatah-Reopening Purgatory-Reopening Jump-Reopening Club Dream-Still Open Exchange-Still Open and there may be a few more announcements about two other very big bars before we are done. But after reading all of this, keep in mind that the powers that be also understand that Main still has issues that needs to be resolved otherwise we will find ourselves repeating the same cycle again. So for the past several months, a group has been formed to come up with financing ways to solve some of these problems internally, without relying on just the city. You will hear more about this over the summer.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
I think that it is ironic that the one person (well 1 of 2) that were so against it was the one featured in the news story. Ty along with Myra Greenburg sat right next to me in District 1 and threatened to hold up the liquor license so that he could have input into design. He wanted to debate setback and ingress and egress points at a liquor license meeting, Halusec himself had to bring him back to the topic at hand. Myra was just flat out against it regardless and had dismissed Steve (McMicken), who lives closer to this than anyone and tried to have me dismissed from the meeting (that just wasn't going to happen). This agreement was ironed out by Mulberry/McMicken Safety Sector, the sector that the Shell Station actually is in. Pendleton, in classic Pendleton style tried to hamstring this. Chris Zimmerman and other business owners like him should be embraced by the community and supported in any and everyway we can. The decision to destroy the crack pipes was his, he had done this before we ever met him. The idea of doing a non binding agreement was Captain Jones and he has been advocating this for a couple of years now. It is just ironic that when all of the back and forth is going on and the one group who was just "insane" in the whole thing is the first one's who will jump out to take credit for it. I want everyone to know and remember that it was not the community that went to Chris, It was Chris who went to the community. Support him, buy gas, and thank him if you see him on the lot because he is proving to be a great neighbor.

Michael L. Redmond replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionYou could be right. I was going off of the fact that Ruby said he was looking for another downtown spot and it wasn't going to be on the square. But like you said, either JR would would work.

Cincinnati: OTR: North Main Street Discussion
there is more two this than what has been discussed by Paul in the articles, this is more than just another wave of idealistic entrepreneurs working on this (and forget the Loop, that was a Mike Spalding thing) and it envolves some of the largest property owners on the street with people working on this as far away as Dayton. Do not discount this just yet, no one more than 15 people even have the real information, just wait a bit longer before it is judged.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
I welcome both. They have jointly done nothing short of a miracle in OTR. Part 1 Crime in OTR down 52.4% from Feb 06-07, during the same time calls for service down 27.3%. We need all of the help we can get so I hope that the bickering at the higher level stops because bottom line, CPD and the Sherriffs can help one another on what has proved to be an insurmountable crime problem until now.

Say it loud UncleRando, say it to the people who need to hear it, City Council, they are deciding now.

Cincinnati: Mount Auburn: Inwood Village
Ok, there are just short of 2 parking spaces per unit. There will be surface lots dotted all around the project in addition to the garage. This project I feel is about to happen, it is going in front of the finance committee to get approval for cost increases and all members of council and the mayor have been met with individually. The community, including Dist 4 and Dist 1 are getting behind this along with Christ Hospital because many of the problems associated with having a huge, vacant, neglected property are radiating outward and affecting the neighborhood as a whole. UrbanOhio's voice should be heard as well on this project. Here is a chance to do more than just talk about upcoming projects but to have a say in getting it done. Please write council, tell them how important 68 historic, market rate homes in the heart of Mt Auburn could benefit us all in exposing even more to the urban lifestyle. It is time to draw the line in the sand, Inwood Village has been neglected, and pushed to the side for years. We have an opportunity to as a community, as people who realize the importants of building our urban core, to bring to life a project that will serve as a catylyst to even more development between uptown and downtown Cincinnati. Please email council today, this is it! Vice Mayor James R. Tarbell Phone: (513) 352-3604 Fax: (513) 352-3621 [email protected] Y. Cincinnati: Where to live?
Try 29 Mulberry, it has off street parking, 2 decks, city view ranging from Union Terminal, Music Hall, and the Central Business Dist. Walking dist to Main and Findlay. It is around 156,000. Also I have listed a great little place on Main St. with a penthouse view facing back to Prospect Hill and over Pendleton. Parking is available There is a single family on Mulberry with exposed brick, metal roof, copper counter tops, deck overlooking city, and a back yard that has room enough for parking garage or parking pad. Beautiful home 235,000 Disclaimer:I am an agent, Comey & Shepherd plus I live on Mulberry and am always looking for neighbors
