Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
Cleburger, my point was that Pittsburgh's economy is (relatively) strong and obviously Detroit's is (relatively) weak. Both have casino's. Having a casino does preclude economic growth nor does in cause an economic downturn . Its one piece of a larger whole. Now Lets get back to Cleveland's proposal please

I'll be there. Last time was a lot of fun. Got to meet a bunch of new people, both UO members as well as park patrons who were interested in what we were doing. I'm sure the park looks awesome this time of year too.

Cleburger, CSU is in the midst of a complete campus renovation, so thats already happening...And would you quit with the Detroit comparisons, our situation is completely unique and in no way related to Detroit's. Pittsburgh has casinos, hows their economy doing?

Exactly. I wasn't so much talking about 'breaks' but rather where employees are going to go when they get off. I doubt they would want to stay and eat/drink in the Casino after an 8 hour shift, but who knows...

I'm not sure if I'm buying this story....plus, the 4000 or so employee's of the casino are NOT going to want to eat/drink where they work so I assume they will be venturing out into the city.

renderings! "He said he was willing to forgo the hotel idea because he hopes that customers at his casino will wander the downtown area and boost surrounding businesses. That would differ from the casinos in Detroit, which are busy but surrounded by desolate conditions. Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
Do you people honestly think that the city leaders aren't actively trying to peruse high tech jobs? Like Your posts are some sort of revelation? People read it the and the magic job fairy swoops down to deliver 'green' jobs to Cleveland? The casino's are not the solution to our economic woes, they're not designed to be.... they're not going to relieve us from our 'rust-belt' status but they can stop 10's of millions of OHIO gaming dollars from leaving the state, help fund our failing schools and employ thousands of people in the process. Period.

UrbanOhio - Edgewater Beach Group Cleanup
Alright, It's time for another cleanup! I've talked to Robert and we are going to schedule the next Edgewater Park cleanup for Saturday, Oct. 3rd at 11:00am. Save this date in your calenders NOW people. We want enough volunteers to be able to work on the upper and lower portions of the park simultaneously. The cleanup will only take a couple of hours and will have a tremendous impact on the park.

In all fairness X, 15 miles and the 'edge' of downtown are quite different. I realize your job is directly effected by this proposal (which is BS because we certainly do not need another concert venue) but I really feel like the casino's will be a net gain for Cleveland, just my opinion.

Agreed, there is no silver bullet. But you must consider that the majority of the gamblers will be those who can least afford it. Gambling casinos bring a wealth of social issues when you consider the people gambling away house payments, college savings, retirements.... let alone the consideration that all the money spent gambling would/could be spent on dining/movies/other recreation around the area. The cons can easily outweigh the pros. That's why this Issue 3 is a bad deal. Ohio must be very careful about bringing these casinos into urban areas. I'm willing to bet that the people who have an addiction to that level (bet car, house, savings, etc) are already gambling at back door games, horse tracks or other states...

Well MTS, according to a recent radio interview I overhead, Quicken loans is doing better than ever, but I digress. Anyway, Gilbert has done A LOT for Cleveland and will continue to do so. Is he the best, most influential person in the city's history? Probably not, but that's for another forum, lets get back to the casinos...

Employee's coming from out of state can be a good thing. They'll need a place to live, eat, shop, etc...

I completely agree that having the state hand exclusive incenses to a certain few is pretty screwed up, however... I must say that I trust Gilbert, I think he truly cares about the state of downtown.

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
I don't know why everyone always points to Detroit when the casino issue comes up, I'm pretty sure there are casinos in Pittsburgh and their economy seems to be doing just fine. Casino's aren't meant to drive the economy rather be a catalyst to it. I also think it would be nice to have a first class hotel/casino option to dangle in front of potential Medical Mart conventions...

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Agreed, It is SOOO good to see this project moving (finally). I just hope they don't abandon the residential portion of the project.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
well just got back from the game.... I'm not even sure where to start. Brady looked bad, although he was getting pressured a lot E. Barton, linebacker # 50, got burned repeatedly. A.P. made him look like JV player Cribbs is the shit, but we can't win games SOLELY on special teams play...

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
I was wondering the exact same thing. Same developers, same location, over twice the square footage? Not that I'm opposed, but how did this happen?
-
Cleveland Browns Discussion
I was under the impression it was 'leaked' but yes it does look like Brady will be the starter against the Vikings
