  1. I asked Mayday to unlock this thread Boy did this thread take on a life of its own... All I was trying to do was point out is that Philly in the 70's had issues similar to present day Cleveland: Business exodus to the suburbs, shrinking population, dirty streets. The video I linked to shows a handful of things Philly did to improve its Center City, things that Cleveland can parallel and in some cases has already has (the Center City 'CSR's' and the Downtown Cleveland Alliance immediately comes to mind). This thread isn't about what city best correlates with Cleveland, its about a video that shows what Philadelphia did to improve and what Cleveland can learn from it.
  2. ^ 'this isn't crocker park...' Lol
  3. I just read the 'Kasich shuns buses, trains' article in the Restarting 3-C thread and it's absolutely depressing. Just out of curiosity, how much of RTA's funding comes from the State?

^ Tim Its totally worth it, you'll have a great time living downtown or tremont. Just be sure to take 77 to 80. DO NOT TAKE 480!!!

It takes about 40 minutes, little long but manageable. There's easy highway access from Downtown, I am not sure there would be from the CRWU area. Here are some places to check out. e.4th apartments- http://www.east4thstreet.com/ 668 Euclid Reserve Square

Welcome to UrbanOhio Tim. I also work in Aurora and live downtown at Reserve Square. You can get a really great apartment downtown for $1,000 not to mention your minutes from Ohio City, Tremont, etc.
  7. Wanted to give this thread a quick bump: My lease at Reserve Square is ending at the end of the month and although I really enjoy living there, I thought it would behoove me to check out a few other places before I resigned. 668 Euclid: Still 100% occupied, I put my name a waiting list that was over 100 people long WT Grant: 100% occupied The Bingham: 100% occupied, 6 month waiting list for one bedroom Reserve Square: 100% occupied for one bedrooms, in fact in both towers there are only 2 units available and those are the higher end 2 bedroom units I ended up resigning at Reserve Square. It's good to see the rental market for downtown so strong!

^ hit the panic switch a little harder heat... Why don't we at least give the new guys a chance before we write them off. After all, Chris Grant may know a little bit more than the people on this forum.

Both neighborhoods are very safe. Whats your price range?

It appeared from the initial article that Kasich was pushing Cincinnati
  11. ^ Doesn't seem like much. No visible progress from the outside, can't speak to what it going on inside.
  12. 200 Public Square skyscraper for sale in downtown Cleveland CLEVELAND, Ohio -- One of Cleveland's most dominant skyscrapers is for sale, raising the question of whether prime real estate can lure investors to the Rust Belt. The 200 Public Square building, once known as the BP Tower, was put up for sale this week by Harbor Group International LLC of Norfolk, Va. The real estate company and several partners paid $141 million for the 41-story building in 2005. Now as hungry investors circle deals in major cities, Harbor Group is testing Cleveland's appeal by offering up a 1.2 million-square-foot building that is 90 percent leased to long-term tenants, including Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. and Huntington Bank, which recently hung its sign on the building. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2011/06/200_public_square_skyscraper_f.html
  13. I also went in last night. Thought the mens section had some really good stuff at reasonable prices. My girlfriend on the other hand thought the womens stuff was way overpriced.
  14. ^ I have to agree with you freethink. It sucks losing Columbia I am not going to sugar coat that, but the overall impact the casino will have on the area should be great. If we come out of this with a rehabbed Stanley Block building then we'll have one more functional century-old building then we do now.
  15. ^ I was getting a little worried about the Warehouse district after loosing Crop and Metro. This should be a great addition!
  16. I heard that he wanted it built on the Mall, over looking the lake and the city balked at the idea. This was in the late 80's when the city had some momentum... Boy what I would do for a nice shiny Progressive Tower downtown.

^ Good luck on that... Maybe it needs a higher ratio of people willing to volunteer to clean it up.
  18. ^ Great news, seems odd that Huntington got naming rights though

Yes it does need to be cleaned up, petition the people who run the park. The friends of Edgewater and the Sierra Club were out on the Beach Saturday cleaning the beach up and it looked great, but unfortunately people litter and it gets dirty again. What that beach really needs is a comber to clean up litter/drift wood on a regular basis. Right now the beach only gets combed a measly 4 times a year.

I was out at Edgewater on Saturday morning with the Friends of Edgewater and the Sierra Club for a beach cleanup. There was a good 60-70 people out there cleaning litter off the beach and it looked superb when I left. BTW, I have made contact with person who runs Edgewater Beach, I was petitioning that they more regularly comb the beach to clear drift wood and litter, his response was that there is nothing they can do, they share one comber with 4 beaches in the area and they're short handed.
  21. I'm not sure if it was on this forum, could have been skyscraperpage, but recently someone mentioned that Cleveland feels like its on the edge of a boom and they compared it to Philadelphia in the late 80's. I had no idea what the reference to Philadelphia meant so I ignored it, then I saw this:
  22. As awful as this news is, Downtown still remains a pretty safe neighborhood.

^ I was watching a documentary recently about that draft, the whole 'Kobe' wasn't going anywhere but the Lakers was a total bluff by his agent. It worked and he ended up in L.A. but he would have played anywhere.
  24. you didn't specify Cleveland so I am going to go ahead and agree with Gold Coast :-D They're not on the lakefront, but if you can get a (north) end unit at Reserve Square they have balcony's with absolutely gorgeous lake views.
