  1. I stopped by on my lunch for the open house yesterday. The place is beautiful. It is also much more respectful of pedestrians than the old. The new buses are nice, they are like the ones that Tank uses.
  2. I'm sorry, but that Cincinnati estimate cannot be correct.
  3. This placement isn't affirmatively bad for Cincinnati. IKEA stores are HUGE. There just isn't anyplace in the city that it could go, without prohibitively expensive sitework. So I seriously doubt that IKEA was even considering anything in the city limits. And there aren't many furniture stores in the city that this will draw business from. It just offers another furniture option for folks looking to furnish their homes without spending too much money. Some of the stuff looks pretty nice, even designer, but in the end it's all particleboard, plastic, and thin veneer.
  4. The number of pre-sales will determine whether this will become another Next or will really happen. Even if it is just a fishing expedition at this point, they won't abandon the project if they can sell a significant number of units.
  5. Some of those units are going to be awfully close to the freeway ramp. I would be concerned about an object, or even an entire vehicle, crashing through. Also, it looks like some of the lower levels on the south side will have perpetual shade, being underneath the ramp. This is a very exciting project, though!

Duluth is a cool city, thanks for the peek. However, you didn't mention the only drawback that would truly stop me from living there - the brutal winter: Average monthly highs, Duluth vs. Cincinnati: Nov - 35 vs. 54 Dec - 22 vs. 43 Jan - 18 vs. 38 Feb - 25 vs. 44 Mar - 34 vs. 55
  7. cincity is correct!
  8. Unfortunately, my library of Cincinnati photos is not nearly as extensive as I would like.
  9. Wheeler is in the Clifton Heights portion of CUF. Fairview does not begin until the west side of Ravine St.
  10. That building, or one that looks a whole lot like it, is on Wheeler St. in Clifton Hts.
  11. I'm with Leis on this issue. The Collaborative Agreement arose from the black community's complaints about how it was being policed by the Cincinnati Police Department. It is a remedial measure. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department was not involved. In my opinion, the Sheriff's deputies should not have to abide by it.
  12. What's CPS going to do with the Clifton School building?
  13. Desdemona was incredible and I desperately want it to come back for next year. Nick, was the article correct in saying that you covered the $8k?
  14. If indeed there is a 70% vacancy rate in OTR, it is mostly due to vacant buildings, not buildings with livable spaces sitting empty. Many of those buildings are for sale, some are being preserved in a vacant condition by their owners who are speculating that the value will increase in the future, and some are currently being fixed up into nice residential units. Since when has safety not been the #1 issue in OTR? 30, 40 years? I think the street-level crime in OTR is better than it was 2 years ago, and the statistics bear out that observation. For example, in 2004, there were 390 robberies. Halfway through 2006, only 149. The sheriff's patrols can only help. Just last night I saw a deputy with a Kentucky vehicle pulled over.
  15. This little snippet of a story raises two important issues: (1) people from the suburbs are just as much to blame for OTR's condition because they come here to buy drugs and hookers and (2) I cannot imagine a worse place for someone who is trying to get back on track after jail to be.
  16. They must have resolved it, because I drank two beers at Bella's bar on Friday evening. Either that, or they were selling illegally.
  17. ^Correct! Your turn.
  18. No cheating by looking at the street sign!
  19. Can I make one more guess? Steps from Elsinore to the Art Musuem?
  20. Can't really complain about Crate and Barrel in Kenwood. At least the sales taxes stay in Ham Co to pay for the stadiums. I would have preferred to see it in Norwood, but Carl and Joy Gamble fucked that up.
  21. Wow, this one is tough. Steps to Burnet Woods Park Gazebo?
  22. I thought Park Place was pretty much wrapped up. How much longer will they be working on it?

In three years, only one person has asked me where I went to high school at or near the time of our introduction. I have been asked what neighborhood I live in, and have asked that question myself. It is a good conversation starter, because it is current, and often an area of common ground, unlike the high school question.
  24. I say build around the homes. It sounds like the Gambles may be the only ones who don't settle, and they're property isn't the one that's right in the middle. Throw up a 15-foot concrete block wall on three sides of their lot so no one has to see it and be done with it. Some day, they will sell and then the site can be developed as an out building.
  25. I don't know how the Enquirer does it, but at other newspapers I know of, information about donations and services is only printed if the family provides the information. Also, the newspaper would only bother to ask in the case of a sympathetic victim, such as Brandon Morris.
