What a great cartoon!! (He even used a fictional street name on the sign: Sixteenth)

Cincinnati: Housing Market / Affordable Housing
^Let me see if I got this right. Condos are selling in downtown Cincinnati, but the demand does not appear to be there for condos in downtown Loveland. There are big differences between the two downtowns. Differences that are not even alluded to in this news piece. The reporter is trying to make some kind of connection between the two, since the canceled project was in Loveland, but 90% of the text pertains to Cincinnati. Either (1) the reporter is hoping that the reader will connect the failed project to downtown Cincinnati, or (2) the reporter spent about 5 minutes putting this piece together. I hope that our local media outlets are the worst in the country for an MSA of our size, because I can't even imagine what it would be like living somewhere where they were worse.

Cincy: renting in downtown or OTR
Be sure to keep an eye on the rental listings on Craigslist, too.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
This situation is ridiculous and completely unacceptable. Aside from the minimum wage, which is a social safety net, the state has no place requiring anyone to pay prevailing wages. I think it's time for the prevailing wage law to take a hike.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
God I would love to see a streetcar in downtown and OTR.

Cincinnati: Bond Hill: Villages of Daybreak
I drove through the Villages of Daybreak subdivision today. There has been a lot of building activity there in the 9 months since my last drive through. There is a reason that Drees didn't include this development in its most recent sale list, they seem to be selling well. I don't like the winding, cul-de-sac street layout, but I do like to see the new construction in the city.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
It is surprising how much visual interest one spinning, partial-neon sign can add to an intersection at night.

Cincinnati: Purple People Bridge
Great news! Now this is down in the price range where I will likely participate.

Yes, it's the "chandelier" in the atrium of the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Cincinnati: Mt. Auburn: Development and News
So why did Christopher Rose cooperate with the story? It does not seem rational. It's not going to help mitigate any future crime that may occur, and it's certainly not going to help him sell his house if he wants to move...

Winter! Post your pics here!
Cincinnati-area local governments use WAY too much road salt during the winter. Astounding, unbelievable, gratuitous amounts of salt. I lived in Michigan 24 years, including 18 on the snowbound west side, and never saw any municipality use anywhere near as much in anticipation of, or reaction to, winter precipitation.

Cincinnati: Mt. Auburn: Development and News
Stray New Year's Eve bullets aren't a new phenomenon anywhere. In fact there was a story in the local news about it happening somewhere in NKy this year, too. As for the rest, it sounds like a relatively isolated situation in that most of the trouble has been caused by a single cohort of troublemakers. Hopefully the residents and police can find a way to curtail the activity.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Hamilton Co. got raped by the Bengals. We should have let them go, or found some way to get contributions from neighboring counties. There is no way the Bengals contribute enough to Hamilton County to make it worth the sacrifice.

Cincinnati: OTR: North Main Street Discussion
A great way to fill an empty storefront and a welcome addition to the Main St. gallery scene!

Cincinnati: Come on downtown; the water's fine
Mudslide, man. Get a grip. First of all, the article at the top of this thread says nothing about OTR, let alone the admittedly decrepit parts that you describe. Second, did any of the people you saw actually harm you or threaten to harm you? You sound so paranoid. I've caught the bus at Vine and Liberty probably 150 times, no problems. Trekked on foot over to Washington Park/Music Hall/Vine St. Kroger many times, sometimes after dark, no problems. Driven the streets you describe many times, no problems. Are there problems to be found in these areas? Sure. But nine times out of ten, the problems will not find you, you have to find them. So the folks who are minding their own business don't get hassled, except maybe asked for a spare quarter.

Dayton: General Business & Economic News
I am skeptical of the company's use of EPA regulations as an excuse. They sell heavy duty trucks. If you need a heavy duty truck, a light duty truck won't do. If you don't need a heavy duty truck, then why would you ever have bought one, given the increased cost and decreased mileage. Surely, cost increases due to regulations may delay replacement purchases of heavy duty trucks. But I suspect this industrywide slowdown is due to other factors and they are needlessly slandering those who would try to improve our air quality.

Monroe County, MI
I dated a girl from Carleton in college. Not a bad little town. Dundee is prospering these days, due to its proximity to Cabela's. Thanks for the photos!

This project is taking much longer than I expected, considering the progress that had been made by August.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Mudslide, it is obvious you have no idea what you are talking about. High police visibility certainly is not the only thing that will cause people to feel safe. I feel safe downtown and I don't see a cop of every corner, though I always see several when I walk around. Also, how does this account for areas of the city that almost anyone would feel safe in, like Hyde Park or Mt. Lookout Square or Mt. Adams? It's not because those places are crawling with cops, because they aren't. In fact, I have seen the viewpoint expressed that noticeably large police presence can actually make people feel unsafe, because they wonder why on earth are so many cops necessary. Increasing the number of officers certainly is not the only way to reduce crime. Listen to leaders of the black community, for example. Every time they say that facilitating access to economic opportunities (i.e., jobs) is the best way to get people off the streets, out of the dope business, and thus to reduce crime. Makes sense to me. Sure, they also ask for more cops, but acknowledge that that is a temporary measure. You say that increasing police presence is the only way to make people feel safe and reduce crime, but you are unwilling to admit that increasing the police force by more than 5% in a single year will have any impact. You're off to a slow start, pal. I hope your third post is better.

I agree, I like how it looks. Haven't made it in yet. I hope they can hang on a year or two, that section is improving rapidly.

Well the area won't be getting any better with CityLink moving in. Great photos, thanks!
