  1. 12th st has my seal of approval. I wouldn't need to walk as far to catch the (walnut) southbound car.

Just kidding, I wish my dog looked this cool though, chicks dig ugly dogs..
  3. I choose OTR since Prospect Hill is not one of the choices. Here is a few reasons PH Rawks! Scale of neighborhood- Small and cozy Culture-Very diverse, all age, incomes and races. Amenities/convenience-Neighborhood Tavern, right across the st from OTR Architecture-Italiante, Federal, greek revival, Queen Anne Crime-Plant thief is the biggest problem. Transit- On bus line. Walk, ride bike Downtown. Will be within walking distance of proposed streetcar line. Infrastructural aesthetics (new sidewalks and roads, in-ground powerlines)Sidewalks for the most part are in good shape-power lines are not very pretty here.. Landscaping, Topography-Parks are abundant, hilly terrain with few flat areas. Lot's of tree's and gardens. Future prospects and potential- New housing are filling some of the vacant lots, neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods are improving daily.
  4. I have many more pics of this place that I'll add later.
  5. This picture thread is to help me overcome the stresses of Alleynary Block Disease. Outside the gate, blocked Alleys attract noxious weeds, litter, vermin, urination/defecation, eye soreness, and prevent healthy air circulation. In other words.. BAD Feng Shui. Some newcombers and developers would like OTR to be a gated fortress, hence the new branded area "Gateway Quarter" Where you can be a suburbanite in the Ghetto :-D OTR scores a 100% on walkability.com I use the alleys daily for transportation by walking, bicycle and scooter. Here are some alleys I would love to travel and maintain, but probably will never due to them being constantly blocked by cars, sold off for private use and gated. I will add more pics of other areas in OTR later.
  6. I woke up one misty, rainy morning.I took the dog out and everybody was gone!!?? Not a soul in sight, only the houses they once lived in...
  7. Yes, with a couple of sticks I put them into a nearby 40 OZ bottle and cap it. Please stop telling people OTR is downtown.
  8. Hust alley! one of my faves. :-D I did get a flat tire riding it once though.. IMO Those police recruits should not become police if they can't deal with that. I find needles and condoms on Boal st, should it be shut down? Back on topic. Who ever branded the name "The Gateway" is a genius. It is starting to live up to it's name, check out this nice new shiney Gate going up on Vine today.
  9. Sorry but someones got to stick up for the little guys (Alleys/Stairways) Otherwise alley ROW's will be blocked off and sold for your Mom's SUV parking.
  10. You know, you guys are right I walked around OTR for an hour or so and took some pics along the way of some Gated alleys. These should be all over OTR, blocking every Alley.
  11. Will the streetcar have an finish point where everybody has to get off, like govt sq buses do? Or could one ride all day?
  12. That's BS that cincy made the list. Top 50 maybe? top 10? what a joke.
  13. So that explains why all that sh!t is occuring in open view in Washington Park now.
  14. Another thing to ponder. I look at the gates as a fire protection hinderance. We all know that OTR is dense and burns quickly if a fire occurs. What if the rear building is in flames and the owner/s happen to be on vacation. Sure the fire department has a copy of the keys..... There is no way a blocked alley for a residence etc, would ever revert back to an open alley. The city would love to do away with an alleys maintenance, I know someone who personally bought part of an alley from the city and a house now fills where the alley ROW was. Alleys in OTR are a unique alternative transportation network that we shouldn't take for granted.

    The monorail is running. http://www.wlwt.com/video/17305308/index.html
  16. That bar should have been shut down a long time ago, too bad it wasn't sooner. Four Shot, Two Killed In Over-The-Rhine Attack Police: Shooting Happened Near Bar POSTED: 12:29 am EDT August 27, 2008 UPDATED: 12:36 am EDT August 27, 2008 CINCINNATI -- Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened in the Over-The-Rhine neighborhood. Officers said that four people were shot near Martin’s Bar in the 100 block of East McMicken Street. Two of the victims died, medics said. The shooting happened just before 12:15 a.m. Wednesday. Crime scene investigators have roped off the scene and are looking for evidence. Detectives asked that anyone would information call police immediately
  17. What are we defining as "Downtown"?? Some local real estate agents and media types are calling Over the Rhine "Downtown". Guess there was another murder "Downtown" at Findlay and Vine last week. No wonder people think it's dangerous in the CBD
  18. :-o Hopefully he doesn't run off and become the new CEO of Citylink. For you Sub-urbanists, this is a good read. Urban Fear: Building the Fortress City Setha M. Low City University of New York. Currently one third of all new homes built in the United States are in gated residential developments, and eight million people already live in such communities. Secured neighborhoods are a logical extension of social and political processes producing the built environment of the late-capitalist city. Although walled and fortified communities are not new, these recent developments are private rather than public, and are exclusively residential. Fortress–like, that is, walled, gated and guarded communities encode fear—materially, not just metaphorically—producing a literal landscape of fear. The study is based upon interviews with residents from gated developments in Los Angeles, New York and San Antonio.
  19. Posted by: UncleRando You may have never seen this? The 2002 OTR Plan recommended preservation of alleys as an important part of the pedestrian network. 3CDC should work to include community stakeholders and OTR council in discussions of this implementation plan. Go to page 4 under Pedestrian circulation http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/cdap/downloads/cdap_pdf3648.pdf
  20. Sorry but I love OTR, I love it's long history, it's people , it's streets, stairways and alleys. I don't like the fact that some noob's with $$ in their eyes are coming in and changing what was made right the first time. OTR is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in our great city for a reason.
  21. You won't believe this but I just saw a bum taking a leak on the outside of private residence barricade AKA (WC gated community) in Pendleton. Good for him! I hate those things too. I normally call the cops but I didn't in protest of the closed alley. . This happens on Main st all the time ,right in front or in the vicinity of the circle K market. should we close main st? I take Goetz Alley behind Main all the time so I don't have to deal with the dealers and loiterers in the Main st entertainment district.
  22. 765-1212 I will post some pics later of a few "private Alleys" AKA (the WC gated communties) and what happens to the surrounding properties that turn into the dead zones.
  23. I don't want to get off topic here but since the Alleys and lots in and around the Gateway quarter are being turned into a West Chester like Gated community this is relevant. I currently own 2 properties with an alley behind them. Sometimes people block me in when I am about to leave for work. Kinda sucks when you can't get out.
  24. The alleys are just being made private for those who actually need to use them for a functional purpose. What's wrong with using them for the purpose of transportation??? I walk them and ride my scooter on them daily. Nothing irks me more about OTR then when some douche blocks an alley with his car or is blocked off by a fence/wall/dumpster etc. Keep the alleys clear.
  25. Yea lets close all the alleys in OTR and public stairways up our hillsides because only bad people use these "avenues of crime" :-P better yet lets make all of OTR a giant fenced in area with a gate and an access code.
