  1. Michael, although not techinically in OTR what is going on with the building at Main and Mulberry that is getting facade work done? is that a spitz building?
  2. We have section 8 at the top of Milton st and Boal st in Prospect Hill (a so called gentrified area.) I have talked with some people who live there in section 8, they and their children decided on the area because they heard that it was a clean safe neighborhood. We all watch out for each other, and attend the same neighborhood parties and functions regardless of income levels or education.
  3. We must give OTR 110% of our attention NOW, the buildings that have been sitting vacant for 20+ years are collapsing.

  7. Another reason to check out Prospect Hill, this dog park was talked about a couple of years ago. This is within walking distance. BY KEVIN LEMASTER | SOAPBOX CINCINNATI March 18, 2008 DOWNTOWN - Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney has convened a committee of stakeholders to explore the idea of a downtown dog park, and the Downtown Residents Council (DRC) has pledged its support. The dog park, which would likely be located on city-owned land off of Eggleston Avenue, would give dog owners a place to socialize. Chris Wiedeman of the DRC says the idea emerged after dogs were banned from Fountain Square. "One of the first things people ask when they consider a move Downtown is, 'Where do you take your dog?'", he says. "We think of our dogs as part of our family." Mic Foster, owner of the nearby Pet Athletic Club at 818 Reedy Street, says one would be hard-pressed to find a thriving mid-sized city that lacks a dog park. "As cities go, Downtown Cincinnati is not dog friendly," he says. "If we want to be successful as a city, that needs to change." Foster also believes that the proposed site is an eyesore and that a dog park would be in the neighborhood's best interests. "The location will draw attention to my business, and that part of town as a whole," he says. "I think it will be one of the busiest dog parks in Cincinnati." Foster is currently working on a website, www.downtowndogpark.com, that will launch within the next two weeks. Until the website is up and running, donations to help fund the park are being accepted at the Pet Athletic Club. 11. OTR is a great neighborhood because of the different income levels and diversity of peoples. The only people I don't want to see in this neighborhood are drug dealers, gangs, prostitutes, and the people who come here for those reasons to harm themselves and others.
  12. Oh! :-o I walked right past 4th and walnut on my way to Vine. I ended up having Thai express instead, (yummy). I will try the other location next time, thanks!

  16. IKEA prefab homes.... A new community of 93 pre-fab houses designed by Ikea is popping up as we read this, and you won't need to worry about putting it together. Ikea has teamed up with a British builder and they are making Swedish style prefabs for moderate income key workers such as nurses and teachers. Seen as a way for them to get onto the property ladder, these houses will sell for $260,000 for a two bedroom townhouse. Assembled in a factory nearby, they get to the site ready to be bolted together and take about 16 weeks from start to completion. The system is called BoKlok (Ikea speak for smart living) and was developed in conjunction with Ikea. Already in Glasgow, and now in Gateshead, the houses and apartments are designed with British and Ikea architects, built of sustainable materials and are energy efficient. They claim to use good planning principles in the surrounding community with lots of green space and parks, recycling facilities, and close to public transport. You even get a voucher for $500 worth of Ikea products and a session with their interior designer. :: Guardian http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/02/ikea-village-housing-england.php
