  1. One of several ghost cities of Eurasia, the abandoned resort of Varosha in Famagusta was once north Cyprus’ most exclusive tourist destination frequented by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Brigitte Bardot. But since the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the Varosha quarter has been abandoned, its hotels, restaurants and highrise structures slowly decaying amid the ruins of this once thriving millionaires’ playground. In this incredible series of photographs courtesy of Sometimes Interesting, we take a rare trip beyond the fence. http://www.urbanghostsmedia.com/2013/03/varosha-famagusta-rare-photos-inside-northern-cyprus-ghost-city-abandoned-resort/ Elsewhere in the former tourist quarter, clothes still hang in the closets of long abandoned buildings and a car dealership remains fully stocked with now-vintage 1974 model vehicles. 2. Have to assume that the verbal offers are legit. That is a big building, but no idea how many apartments one could put in there. As a resident you would probably get more windows per sq. ft. in the tower portion as opposed to lower fatter portion of the building.
  3. Good. Good. Thanks George. Have not paid to see the Bengals since the 90's. Still won't. Win a playoff game Marvin.
  4. Yeah that is awful news hearing about that kid. Can't imagine how the parents and family are getting by.
  5. Corporex/Butler lost The Baldwin Complex to bankruptcy and the Rivercenter buildings are about 50% vacant so he might lose those. He likes to refinance, put money in his pocket, and be highly leveraged. I think financing for Ovation will be difficult at least as originally outlined.
  6. Balconies, nice. I bet they are 100% pre leased.
  7. Did the Bengals waive the height restriction for all of The Banks or just the GE building? That was never made clear to me. I'm not sure there is still a height restriction on the hotel. I don't recall reading anything about the GE Building, but related to height restrictions this has been an issue with getting a hotel deal finalized. If the Bengals did waive anything I am not sure.
  8. I don't have a website to verify but I doubt that. Looking at hotels.com and downtown areas Cincy looks to have a few more than downtown Ville. # of hotel rooms per a downtown does anyone have a website for that?
  9. Competition is always part of the equation, but the other is the building footprint and the Bengals have control of the height of any proposed hotel at that site. At the Banks site, in order to be profitable, a hotel needs to be tall enough to include enough rooms.
  10. Gabelman has made a fortune on the banks. Billings well over 20 Million.
  11. The tax payer funded gift that keeps giving.
  12. Yeah that was fun. For an NFL stadium pbs does have some awful video boards and the ribbon that gives down and distance is too small and it was off all night long. I think the D will get better.
  13. I love how Nippert fits into the middle of campus surrounded by other buildings. It is unique. Isn't much tailgating space but again UC is different. Houston and Tulane opened brand new on Campus stadiums this year. Houston Tulane On campus Garden District good video on nippert
  14. That is a heck of a deal. My season tixs usually average $40 something per seat at Nippert, upper deck at Shank Pav. great view.
  15. Hey you outstanding SOBs get your butts down to PBS for UCs first game of the season at PBS Friday night 7PM, Weather is silly good.
  16. Dalton is good, not elite. Did Bredon Kay make the practice team. Dude is a total bad ass. Landry Jones survived in Cleveland because he was drafted higher.
  17. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/opinion/readers/2014/09/04/add-parking-garage-to-streetcar-stop/15070977/ Furthermore, we could tuck the garages underground instead of taking up valuable real estate and assaulting the eyes. Then the streetcar stops could just be near the garage exits instead of inside the garages. I vote we call them "The Banks Garage" and the "Washington Park Garage". What do you guys think? Too fanciful? Don't those garages already exist? the garage at the banks and W Park are very nice. I think that was his point - what the LTE author wants already exists... and they have no idea. OK got it

  19. This, and she did the same thing relative to other taxes in Hamilton. She got close to a million of taxpayer $ to open at the Banks. Probably a very nice lady but she doesn't know how to run a restaurant which is why Comisar is going to start managing the place, lol. You know she charges a $10 cover on weekends with zero entertainment, all that does is keep people away.
  20. Who is we? The owner of Christy's needed to sell. Guy was in hole and is 78 years old. “We are trying to sell it,” Windholtz told me in a phone interview Thursday. “I’m for progress. I’m for making things work.” http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2013/02/08/christys-lenhardts-owner-ready-to.html?page=all Council never should have approved the demolition of that building. Then why buy the real estate yourselves?

I dont think the demo made it to their desk. Why didn't you buy the real estate?

  23. West Badin in French Lick
  24. French Lick has the coolest hotel around, West Badin
  25. My sense is that it would break down much like in Ohio. Newport and Covington would like to be connected with Cincinnati's streetcar system, but the rest of Kenton County and Campbell County would be opposed to it. I don't know if either city has the ability to build something like this without a lot of help from the feds. They don't have the same kind of tax base that Cincinnati has, which also needed some assistance. The southbank shuttle runs so frequently it is pretty much already a streetcar. It gets filled up some for Reds games, concerts (especially the Beyonce concert) and out of towners staying at the Marriott and DoubleTree in Covington use it.
