Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
With how hot Apartment development is, and low vacancy rates, you have to think they looked at that but the cost to convert was too much. Since this was hotel not long ago the cost to renovate much less than a conversion to a different end use.

Good news. I hope the new owner does something with the rooftop bar. Guests like outdoor area and rooftops. Also outdoor space on the level where to hotel portion begins.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Well, it was all of Hamilton County really, but I completely agree with the tar and feathering sentiment. County Commishs did a bad job negotiating the deal, especially on annual maintenance costs - responsibilities, making the Bengals the "sole" tenant, and of course it should have been a retractable roof stadium. The Colts are not the sole tenant at Lucas Oil. Indy has NCAA Championship games, Super Bowl, Big Ten Championship football. etc.

Reds win today. Schedule for August is manageable. 2 in a row over the A's.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Central is really tough this year. Cardinals lost like 7 in a row before they finally beat Pittsburgh, then took 2/3 from the Reds. Dodgers are on fire since the all star break. Most of the August schedule is manageable, Oakland for 2 games (they are good) then Padres, Cubs, Brewers, and 4 home games with Arizona. They can put distance in front of Arizona - Nationals in August for the last wildcard.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
Glad to read this. When I was at UC in the 80's there were waiting lines to get into bars. All of that really changed after the drinking age was increased to 21. I stopped into the Keystone for a beer 2 Sunday's ago. Can't wait for the first football game in less than a month, Sat. 31st @noon Vs. Purdue. Clifton / Heights should be rocking.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
Friars, Scheil, Chrisys Lenhartdts all closed, and sometimes or even often the building is obsolete and renovation won't work. The stuff that was torn down, where U Square now sits, was crap. Fast food joints, UDF, a couple of other junky buildings. Short Vine is next up on the chopping block.

Hipsters
"Edward Adrian, 24, took some cell phone pictures of the wall before it was repainted. He rode up on a bicycle, which was hipster-like, and he sports tattoos and a black earring the size of a shirt button. He was born in Cancun, however, moved to the neighborhood at 10 and still lives a flew blocks away. The hipsters “want to call it ‘Springwells Village,’” he said, shaking his head. “I call it Southwest. I call it home.” Adrian said he’s irked when hipsters move in and congregate only with one another. Then again, he’s irked when they declare themselves part of the neighborhood “and they just moved here last month.” He mentioned respect. Mitchenall, the waiter, mentioned it, too. The 24-year-old from Mexico wants a little appreciation for the generations who held Southwest together. The 25-year-old from Macomb County wants to be acknowledged for living, working and spending in the city. It doesn’t seem like too wide a gap to bridge, but in Detroit, progress always seems to stumble over resentment. Let’s hope this time they can all just pierce their noses and get along. Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Difficult for a developer to put up a building like this with only a 5 year lease, usually they need 10 year commitment. If UC paid for the TI's then a 5 year deal might happen. Other buildings would make more sense and be more cost effective.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I don't understand how Milwaukee is averaging more than 30,000 a game for a losing team. Cleveland and Milwaukee are very similar cities. What's the difference? Milwaukee fans tailgate at baseball games, not kidding. Whisky Badger and Green Bay fans are very dedicated also.

Best Movies Ever Made?
If you like vampire/zombie genre, Stake Land is a pretty dam good flick. http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/stake-land-2011 Review by Andrew L. Urban: Mister (Nick Damici) is a man of few words but plenty of action as he makes his way north through a post apocalyptic America towards New Eden - used to be called Canada. Armed with wooden stakes, often rubbed with garlic oil ("doesn't hurt") with which to smite any of the vamps (vampire zombies) who come too close, Mister is a taciturn hero in the classic mould. After saving Martin (Connor Paolo), the son of a couple preparing to flee their home from a vamp attack, Mister takes him along in his beaten up old Chevvy convertible and fights his way towards a land where food and safety await. They hope. On the way they rescue a nun who they simply call Sister (a grey haired Kelly McGillis) and kill the two men who raped her, but her sister has been vamped and in one of the film's standout scenes, they have to kill her. It's a standout for the fact that it introduces some of the ethical dilemmas that most zombie movies don't deal with; the separation line between humans and ex-humans, the zombies. Sister stays with the men - where is she going to go, asks Martin in the voice over. They hit big trouble when they are captured by the Brotherhood, a religious cult whose leader, Jebedia (Michael Creveris) is the father of one of the rapists Mister killed. Director Jim Mickle and writer Damici give horror fans all the juicy, showy, bloody zombie killing stunts they can handle in what is a first rate genre piece with great production values and great dry, dialogue. They also take care to include lots of little touches that add texture, from radio broadcasts to hand scrawled signs that hint at the horrors around them. Mickle invests in his characters and makes us care for each of them, elevating the film to the best of its genre potential, with as much human drama as zombie horror and Jeff Grace provides an outstanding score, plucking the emotional strings. The Road on supernatural steroids, the New York Times called it, and that's a pretty good short handle for it. http://www.urbancinefile.com.au/home/view.asp?a=17975&s=Reviews

Best Movies Ever Made?
Animal House is as good as it gets. Boogie Nights is under rated. A really good movie. Multiple actors should have received more nominations from that movie. Burt Reynolds was nominated for best supporting. The scene with Wahlberg, John Reilly, and Thomas Jane where they go to the house of the drug dealer (Alfred Molina) is a classic. The cast that was put together for that movie was about perfect.

Rob, my only visits there have been business, downtown and the Hurstborne Area. I think 4th Street live is the place to go downtown. The Bardstown Rd area is called the highlands and it has a bunch of restaurants and bars, not very far from UL.
