yeah, I don't want him. He only played 42 games last year and hasn't played more than 70 games since '03-'04.
  2. they changed the traffic pattern to function more as a roundabout should function. this is interim, though, to my understanding
  3. Went to Ohio City's Momocho (www.momocho.com) for the first time in over a year and was very pleased with their updated menu and the charming second floor dining area. I'd never been up there, but I really appreciated the 3rd option for diners, the first two being the 1st floor bar area & booths and the 2nd being the outdoor patio. All three are great, but the quieter, roomier, second floor was just what we were looking for! We have a baby, by the way... There are no more vegetarian dishes to choose from and the guacamole was great as always!
  4. Went to Krazy Mac's on Saturday for some mac & cheese and outdoor dining. Our decision was based almost entirely on their patio, which is one of my favorites in town. The service was more than a little slow, but I think there was a problem figuring out who was supposed to be taking care of us... The food was good and the patio was just what we were looking for! It was nice to see so many people dining out in my neighborhood, too.
  5. There's a transport based University Circle thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,9979.90.html
  6. JSZ, thanks for the clarification on a few points. Even for us optimistic UrbanOhioans, we can sometimes fall into the glass half empties... I felt this exact same thing upon visiting P'burgh two summers ago. The city nabes were hopping and attractive, with commercial districts that extended for several blocks, where back on my very own W. 25th, two or three blocks was all we could muster. I often wonder what would've happened if the Riverview HOPE VI project had succeeded in filling in the east side of the street up to Detroit. There is some activity north of Franklin on the west side of the street, but it will still be fragmented. And south of Lorain has some potential too, but only for a couple blocks before the railroad tracks cut things short. My biggest hope is to wrap Lorain and get more activity on those blocks. Lorain and Detroit have lots of opportunity. But yes, the vacancies on W. 25th need to get wrapped up. Is AP still in discussions about the Moda space?
  7. Liked the Crain's article... and I like KJP's assessment that the City is pulling these developments together. With all the attention they're putting on the FEB and Euclid Avenue, it's important that they focus enough on these big opportunities as well. As several of you have said, I could care less about the ultimate height of this building, so long as it has an appropriate street context and relationship to Public Square, Superior, Franfort, and W. 3rd. This block is THE key bridge to the WHD.
  8. from Cleveland.com University Circle groups entice workers to live there Posted by Tom Breckenridge May 19, 2008 17:38PM Philanthropies and University Circle's biggest nonprofit groups will deliver a $4 million jolt to struggling neighborhoods nearby. Starting today, the Greater Circle Living program will offer those who work in the University Circle area forgivable loans and rent reimbursements to move into seven adjacent neighborhoods. Officials expect 700 deals or more for new and existing dwellings, in a five-year strategy to leverage the University Circle area's multibillion-dollar growth spurt into residential growth... 9. I wonder if the City/RTA have increased ticket-writing to send the message- this does sound dangerous. Agreed. I've been biking the Euclid Corridor for the past two weeks and I have to say it's a smooth ride and quite pleasant due to the lack of other vehicle on the road. The finished segments are - on the whole - very attractive and comfortable to ride. Drawbacks are that there's still a lot of debris on the finished road segments, which I'm assuming will get cleaned up as construction wraps up, and that some of the paint that identifies lanes has already begun to fade. Especially in the vicinity of the Agora... keeping these lines fresh will be very important, as drivers will be very confused driving this street without clear markings. The delivery vehicle issue popped up a couple times as well, which wasn't a problem since the road is very lightly used right now, but as traffic picks up again, it could be a problem. I also noticed again how much the new configuration seems to really encourage people to jaywalk. I know this is going to be an ongoing problem, but the narrower street with the stations in the middle gives pedestrians a feeling of safety and comfort that leads them to just walk out into the road whether they're going to the station or not. I know we've discussed this before, but here's a new pic to illustrate what I'm talking about: . Again, as traffic returns to the street, this might change, but for now, it's super easy to just walk out and not see a car anywhere. One other issue is that some of the early work already appears to be showing signs of wear and tear. Several completed segments in Midtown have been dug up again in recent weeks (not sure why) and areas like this pedestrian crossing at E. 40th Street will likely get worse after another winter. We'll see how the ongoing maintenance is handled.
  10. All the more reason to bring economic development to their neighborhood! Then the can walk, bike or more easily ride transit to work. I get it, though, KJP. If this is built like a freeway, it won't help. If it's done right, it can actually bring a lot of new opportunities to the residents who live nearby or along the path of the corridor.

Any word on when the new cafe will open?
  12. Great idea guys... Sorry I couldn't be there!
  13. I was in last week and the guy was pretty salty about closing up shop. It's too bad, though, 'cause they had good stuff there. I can only hope that what's planned comes true!
  14. Anyone check out the meeting on Friday?
  15. From CoolCleveland: Capitol Theatre Groundbreaking Ceremony The Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization and the Gordon Square Arts District launch the area's latest development, Capitol Theater, corner of West 65th St. and Detroit Ave. on Wed 5/14 at 4PM with a groundbreaking ceremony. A reception follows at 5:30PM.
  16. ok, so they had issues with the Snickers name and with the Cheddars name, so now they go with a name that no one in their right mind would use!
  17. ^agreed, if it is as you report! Also, on W. 58th & Detroit, what was the new Snickers and then became Cheddars is now Crazy Mac's Cafe. WTF??? Not only is this incredibly confusing for anyone trying to look the place up, but for those of us who have been there, does Crazy Mac's Cafe sound like an appropriate name for this restaurant? My vote is an emphatic NO!
  18. well, I suppose sending an actual invite to everyone would be a little cost prohibitive and, well, impossible! So, yes, it was open to the public.
  19. Apartments first... condos later. As discussed previously, there are requirements for tax credit projects.
  20. My understanding was that the class had done a project this past semester on the gardens, so they were invited because of their involvement over the last several months. Everyone was invited, though!
  21. ^huh... that's weird. And yes, the bocce court threw me (no pun intended!). What's this about cow stools at Stone Mad? I was referring to the ones at Luxe!
  22. It was a great opening... many dignitaries and citizens alike. The US students were a nice touch! I wandered over to the Serbian Garden afterwards and it looks like it's going to be a standout on the west side of MLK, where many of the gardens are more subdued.
  23. Went to both Stone Mad and Luxe last week and really liked both, though, both admittedly had some kinks to work out. A little puzzled by all the cow hide banquette and chairs and the electronic brunch music at Luxe, but the food more than made up for it!

There are other shops around the region that rent bikes too, so it depends on where the route begins. I'm psyched today because it's the start of Cleveland Bicycle Week (www.clevelandbicycleweek.org) and I just bought a new bike down at the Ohio City Bike Co-op. I'll be riding in style! Also, now that I'm geared up, count me in for the ride!
