where would they be staying at CWRU that doesn't have AC???
  5. I walked by there this morning... it's huge!
  6. It really does wonders for the intersection of E. 18th & Euclid... still got a long way to go with the URBAN AFFAIRS college across the street, though.
  7. Loved the article. Isn't it great when you read about all this stuff and you know that they could've added even more shops/restaurants to the story? Cheddars, Happy Dog, Detroit Studio and many more were missed. Hopefully, people come out to this event and see how much is going on in Gordon Square!
  8. What a [sad] coincidence... I was just recommending this shop to a co-worker this morning. She was looking for a messenger/work bag for her hubby and had a hard time finding one in the 'burbs. I suggested Cleveland Trunk because they have a pretty good selection along these lines (and I'm always plugging Cleveland retailers). Then I open up Crain's and find it's closing! I, too, expected to hear the usual Euclid Corridor bashing, but was surprised to find that this was a closing orchestrated by PHS. It's too bad, really, but I'll wait and see what they've got in store for the space before judging too much.
  9. here we go again...
  10. yeah, seriously Guv... And my guess on the signs is that the side you showed would be ideal for advertising or PSA's like the one on their now. The map would go on one of the other two sides. That's my guess anyway.
  11. Sorry, Heartland is closing its doors or they're closing the door on the Jay Lofts? I would be surprised if it's the former... And you're right, Carol, that it's downright stupid for someone who wants to sell some homes to be unresponsive to prospective buyers and selling agents! If they're not interested in selling right now, take down the signs and communicate with the realtors! Bob, I'd like to hear more about the YMCA project. You say it's doing fairly well?
  12. I rode the bus through here at morning and evening rush hours probably 10 times since the collapse and was never delayed more than a minute. There was no congestion to speak of... only a slight detour that added no real time to my commute. I hope someone was paying attention to the traffic flow from a city/RTA standpoint so they could inform future discussions about the Square!
  13. Following up on an earlier post I made here, I rode one train and two buses on Wednesday and did not pay a single fare. Each time, I was told that the fare box was not taking cards. I use the 5 ride "dip" variety. I'd estimate that somewhere around 1/3 of my trips have been gratis since the new fare boxes were installed. I'm not sure how widespread the problem is, but they're losing a percentage of my money and presumably a lot more! Any insights from the RTA folks?
  14. I'm curious about that corner that sticks out over E. 9th as well. Is it just over the sidewalk or is it over the street too? We're obviously looking at something very early on, but it's got me wondering. In any case, good to hear there's still hope for this project!
  15. rideRTA.com says "All Rail Running Normal Schedules." However, I don't know if that is an update to an earlier bulletin about the rail problem or if it is in relation to the other headline item about the Public Square detours & congestion.
  16. shoot, how'd you know? BusyBee, I own in D-S, but in a more southern part of the neighborhood (south of Detroit). I love it!
  17. that was the best you could come up with? I'm disappointed MayDay! You could've at least added something in there like a new anchor retail tenant in the Galleria!
  18. The old ladies are the ones with sweets in their bags... not much cash, but I do love a butterscotch candy!
  19. you've got him all wrong... he's the cat burglar deterrent! It's all about the eyes on the street! I, too, enjoy jogging through BP.
  20. The school that operates next door is attached, which is weird. I wonder if there are mysterious old doors in the newer building...
  21. Townhome progress, from last week:
  22. Strap, your first question was brought up at the Planning Commission on Friday. The response was that yes, this could be a building site down the road, but there are no plans at present. UH wants to build a beautiful, usable space that could be there for a while if need be. In regard to your second question, the landscaping in front of the Cancer Hospital has not been resolved yet.
  23. One of the main differences between the UH "front lawn" and those along Euclid on the Clinic's campus is that the "urban park" is designed to be just that. It is designed to be usable green space, with benches, public art, shade trees, and pathways to get from the sidewalks to the buildings. The Clinic's lawns are more buffers between the street and the buildings with no other real function. It's not like any patients are going to be laying out sunning themselves on the Cole Eye Institute's front lawn...
  24. ^Scary! I was happy to be one of many Red Line riders on a rush hour train who was sporting my Tribe gear. Spring is in the air!
  25. Boutique district would breathe life into city shopping Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Kim Crow Plain Dealer Style Editor Shopping can be a chore in Northeast Ohio, no doubt about it. There's a certain segment of readers who insist we're in the Dark Ages when it comes to exciting retail. I don't agree with that, but I do realize once we get outside Beachwood Place and Chagrin Falls, there are very few centralized shopping districts that can offer an afternoon full of enticement.
