  1. I think they're confusing because of the uncertainty of whether or not they're working. The ticker at University Circle sometimes has incomplete next train information, where the words just cut off. There was a time in December when the news flash was about the Tribe being in the playoffs. If you read that, you might start to doubt that anyone is actually updating the content...
  2. Web developer lands $500,000 investment By CHUCK SODER 4:30 am, February 4, 2008 Web development company O-Web Technologies Ltd. in Cleveland has been awarded a $500,000 investment from Lee Zapis, president of Zapis Capital Group LLC in Westlake. O-Web will use the money to develop a new version of Onosys, its web-based food ordering system, and to expand its sales and marketing efforts.
  3. Tenth Floor bought by Mass. company By CHUCK SODER 12:15 pm, February 1, 2008 Interactive marketing company Tenth Floor Inc. in Cleveland has been acquired by a Massachusetts software company in a transaction that could approach $4 million in value. The acquisition will allow Tenth Floor to access resources provided by Bridgeline Software Inc. (Nasdaq: BLSW), said Tenth Floor CEO Tony Pietrocola. Those resources include centralized finance and human resources teams as well as a low-cost development team in Bangalore, India.
  4. Work is proceeding on the Azerbaijan garden and several others are in the works. I'm reposting this new website for the gardens, which is still in development, but is a big improvement from the old site. My original post was deleted last month during UrbanOhio's 1-week reboot. http://www.culturalgardens.org/ The same folks are doing the ECTP history project site and kiosks.
  5. About Middle East, yes, it's good stuff, the people are friendly and the decor probably hasn't changed in decades! The exterior was more defined before the manor was rehabbed and I wish they'd do something more to increase the restaurant's visibility because you're right, you'd hardly notice it's there! I used to walk over for lunch when I worked at CSU and I never saw another soul...
  6. Those tickers are often more confusing than they are helpful.
  7. I'm guessing that's the service center entrance. Lots of loading and unloading... truck traffic and what not.

Mike Miller would be a great addition to the team. No one would miss Larry Hughes for a minute if we had a better scorer, who could pass and rebound. Has he had injury problems in his career, though? This still wouldn't solve the point guard problem, but adding another outside shooter would take some of the pressure off. And then there's the question of who we'd be giving up... I don't like the thought of giving up Gibson, or even Gooden, now that Varejao's injured. I guess we're stuck again.
  9. A recent mailing from Bostwick Design Partnership features the Cleveland Clinic's new East 89th Street Garage and Service Center. The project is also highlighted on their website at http://www.cgbarch.com/gallery/flash/gallery.html
  10. The Cleveland Restoration Society's latest e-newsletter "Perspectives" featured this website on embodied energy, which includes a calculator: www.thegreenestbuilding.org I've never tried this before, but was curious if anyone else has come across a calculator like this that can be used to do some simple estimates of embodied energy. On a side note, I received a mailing today that identifies the Cleveland Clinic's new East 89th Street Garage & Service Center as the "largest LEED Registered building in the State of Ohio." Obviously, that doesn't imply that it's received any certification yet (it's still under construction), but that surprised me. The vast majority of its square footage is a parking structure that will accommodate 4,000 cars and the service center will occupy 220,000 square feet. I guess if they build it well, they can get the points for construction, but obviously not for promoting sustainable transportation! Anyone have experience with this?
  11. More great press for the neighborhood! I have to admit, though, that I'm a little disappointed in some of the progress. My understanding was that both the streetscape and Capitol Theater projects were to begin in 2007. I guess I can wait until May, but damnit I want to walk to the movies already!
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this venue has been vacant for three decades, as the Scene article stated. I believe I was there about two years ago for an R&B show. The place was packed and was actually in good shape.
  13. So, just how long were those buses idling for on Public Square? I know... you can't win with me! A friend went over to check out the hullabaloo on Thursday, but he couldn't figure out what was going on. He said it looked like a protest, but it was actually people picketing for public transportation. The second video obviously doesn't tell the whole story... so what was it?
  14. Unless my eyes deceive me, the only way to hook your bike up to that rack is by the tires, which is less than ideal. Could be easily remedied, though. I like the NYC racks, but I agree that the shelter is minimal. Still, it sends the right message (though not as strong as the Netherlands example!) that bikes are viable transportation options and infrastructure investments are important and worthwhile. That said, I'd assume they're paying for themselves through advertising dollars. Which is why I'm surprised that we don't see more of those around the US. As for the NYC bike map, you can get those (or at least you used to be able to) at most bike shops. In my opinion, it's the best all-around map of the 5 boroughs, with street names, preferred routes, and even dashed lines that represent where the subways run underground! It's durable too...
  15. did you bowl a few frames? i'd love to be able to bowl on lunch...
  16. good point, BigD. I guess I just assumed that they'd come to an agreement with the leather shop owner... no such deal? Anyone heard of interested tenants in the recently rehabbed building next door? Lots of retail opportunities there...
  17. I'd rather see it in Detroit-Shoreway, for both strategic and personal reasons. We're stuck in a grocery void, with our only walking option being the Save-a-Lot on Detroit & 58th. We can drive west to Giant Eagle on Clifton or east to Dave's. I won't try to pull any more attention from this thread to D-S, but that's my vote!
  18. Then why didn't they go with the more obvious laundromat front? KJP, I agree that the other two get more press. I don't know what else to say on the topic!
  19. ^KJP, to me, $5M for a small, non-profit community theater is still very ambitious! And I absolutely LOVE the fact that this neighborhood is being aggressive with its arts investments... many many kudos! BK, I think the hot dog shop just reopened. It could be cute, but as part of a super-block of drive-thrus, so I wouldn't shed a tear if it were gone.
  20. Yes, my reference to them pursuing an agreement with BK to use part of the west end of their lot is directly related. They're thinking of it as a "gateway" of sorts to the Edgewater Hill neighborhood. They're working on banners and the like, in addition to landscape work at that intersection.
  21. Wow... I'm still amazed that the NWT is planning such an ambitious construction project. More power to 'em!
  22. NOOOOOOO!!! Well, I hope that BK's customers know that overflow parking is available just next door!
  23. Talk about dreaming, if you had a couple million $$$ and could acquire these three properties, what would you do with the corner of Detroit & Lake? Nearly 2 acres and about 90% of it is asphalt. It would be a fantastic site to explore...
