  1. Nice! I noticed that the foundations are in on the second townhouse building on Superior. We're really moving!
  2. On a related note, I've heard that Vivo is not doing so hot these days. Which is too bad, 'cause it's one of my faves. Could be construction or it could be all the new competition on E. 4th Street. You'd hope that there'd be enough business for everyone to do well. But, as the industry goes, some will win and some will lose. The keys will be packing residents and workers into all those empty spaces down there. They've got the hotels already.
  3. gotta raise those funds! or does the money go to AIA? Either way...
  4. good stuff KJP! I'm over there 2-3 times a week now, sometimes running, sometimes heading to Reddstone. Last year, no one was living there. Now, there are lights on in the new buildings and progress in several directions! I'm glad you mentioned Gordon Square, because to say that residents will have 2 restaurants to walk to is an understatement. W. 58th & Detroit may be a stretch for some people, but it's definitely walkable. And the new place (Luxe) on Detroit across from the Gordon Sq. Arcade will be even closer when it opens. Stone Mad, too. Plus, there are existing places in the Arcade and elsewhere on Detroit.
  5. sounds like a good idea to me!
  6. great rides both ways on the Red Line yesterday to-from the new W. 117th Street station. Lots of riders during the evening rush hour. I saw three packed trains come into the station within a 10-minute period while I waited for my ride to pick me up. It's such a nice sight to see all those commuters coming out of the station! I ran into the same problem during the day, though, where all I had on me was $2. I was able to pay my morning fare, but had to get money from an ATM and break a $20 bill in order to pay my way home. I even stopped at CWRU on my way to work to see if they sold passes. At the student center, they're selling 7-day unlimiteds - cash only. [sigh] As far as I can tell, there's nowhere walking distance to University Circle where I can buy a 5-ride card or use my credit card to make that purchase. It'd be nice if there were more options in places like U.C. and more logically, at the stations! I guess I'll just have to wait. http://www.riderta.com/ro_downtown-locationsbycity.asp
  7. FYI, Reddstone's Monday "Industry Night," which is advertised as 1/2 off everything, apparently applies to Gorilla Productions people only. Wish they would've mentioned that on their website or one of the many postcards they have sitting out. Their food is good, don't get me wrong, but it would've been even better if it was half as expensive!
  8. Jerry, Not sure if you work with cleveland.com on this page, but there are a few out of date pieces. It came to my attention today with all their online resources for visitors to Cleveland during the ALCS... http://www.cleveland.com/visit/index.ssf?/travel/more/navi/rta.html
  9. Proposed Triangle redo in motion Zaremba/MRN plan for University Circle includes 434 residential suites, office, retail By STAN BULLARD 4:30 am, October 15, 2007 Details are emerging of the proposed, $120 million makeover by two prominent developers of the so-called Triangle section of University Circle, and the plans are as ambitious as they are dramatic. A total of 434 new rental and for-sale residential suites and as much as 227,000 square feet of street-level retail and restaurant space —an amount rivaling the size of a shopping center — are envisioned for as many as eight buildings that would be eight to 10 stories tall. 10. Mentioned elsewhere on here but Reddstone (on W. 76th, adjacent to Battery Park - the old Snickers) had it's grand opening last week, as did Latitude 41 on Detroit across from the new Snickers and Happy Dog. Detroit Shoreway is alive and eating well!
  11. Great news all around! It's still going to be tricky to figure out where to put your bike while you're on board, but at least it seems that someone's listening!
  12. Latitude is officially open as of this morning.
  13. CIA draws place among top schools By SHANNON MORTLAND 4:30 am, October 8, 2007 The Cleveland Institute of Art has been named one of the world’s top 60 design schools, according to a survey by Business Week magazine, which released the names of the schools in alphabetical order. The magazine asked design experts and companies to list the schools that have interdisciplinary design and business programs with a curriculum they respect, and schools whose graduates they prefer to hire. Other schools on the list include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Royal College of Art in London and the University of Cincinnati. The list will appear in the Oct. 15 issue, which hits newsstands today.
  14. nooo! Detroit Shoreway already has one too many Burger Kings!
  15. "This beautiful spire on the Old Stone Church was damaged by fire in 1884, and was removed a few years later. It was never rebuilt. Today ornaments stand on the four corners of the stone foundation formerly supporting the steeple." It was replaced in 1999.
  16. Considering that the owners live a couple blocks over, they've pledged to be "good neighbors" and keep the peace outside of their venue. I'm sure they'll hear from the community if they don't hold to it! I've tried one of the pizzas already... fantastic! The big opening is tomorrow night! Congrats and welcome to the neighborhood BK & girlfriend!
  17. 2 D-minuses and 3 Failures. We're a sad lot!
  18. in other news, what happened to that old school bus shelter at East 55th Street & Chester at the foot of that CMHA tower??? That thing was so cool and a rare example of a RTA bus shelter that actually fit into its surroundings!
  19. ^Right. Or perhaps she could've just said, hey, wander around the city a bit and get lost... that's a fun way of doing it. Or maybe a more sensible answer would've been to send the guy up to the new Public Square Visitor Center. Hopefully, this "poor guy" had enough sense to shrug off this shameful ambassador and go look for a second opinion...
  20. I think 8Shades has covered it for me...
  21. lots of work yesterday on Mayfield in the two retail spaces directly uphill from Corbo's. good to see progress, but I was sad to think of the old Corbo's going empty. Anyone have any idea if they're expanding or just moving? Also, as dated and worn as their old space is, there's still something very charming about the simple exterior on their current space... the signs, the lettering...
  22. I like. And though I expected brisker sales (I'm an optimist), this number in the current real estate climate is still good! Anyone know if work has begun?

since this opened up again recently, I thought I'd mention that the Euc's exterior is coming along nicely. Have a drive/ride/walk by and see for yourself. Or you can wait for my lazy butt to bring the camera out next time!
