  1. You know the Avenue District folks did this for nerds like us... :-D
  2. DS is where it's at baby! Guv, your house rocks... When you get a chance, tell the people on UO a little more about it... all the sustainable materials, etc. It's a great model! Perhaps the EcoVillage has finally crossed Detroit?

Yeah, what's the breakdown? Commuter trips (to/from work), leisure trips, shopping, vacations, all told, what?
  4. That's really good to hear, KJP. An endorsement from you should be worth something! Nice running into you this evening, by the way! An Urban Ohioan's work is never done.
  5. liquor license reqs. or otherwise, I'm not digging the fact that 2/3 of the public realm is now turned over to paying customers only. maybe I'll be happier down on the street, but something about the look of things just turns me off.
  6. wow, yes, I just caught that Parish Hall news on their site yesterday. Honestly, I would spend money at PH 10 times before going to CPT once. That's not saying that CPT isn't an amazing asset and worth my patronage. I'm just saying that for what I'm into, Parish Hall was the bee's knees and CPT is just not my bag. That said, I think the two made a great tandem as anchors to the east end of the district. Now, who knows? I'd like to know more about this apparently mysterious departure...
  7. Tragically crappy, eh? I guess we'll have to wait and see! I have to admit that I'm a little turned off by the massive outdoor seating "pens." I think they detract from the classic character of the street.
  8. More of an issue with partners feeling a little out of their element... UCI is concentrating on its own land now, rather than on land owned by them and WRHS.
  9. Hmmm... it's been delayed, but UCI is still working on it. I believe it will be scaled back to its original scale, which would produce about 12 high end townhomes with a parking deck behind it.
  10. Wasn't ODOT supposed to change under the new administration? ps: I know that's a cop-out answer, as I've done nothing personally to motivate change, but still...
  11. In other news, there are plans for a new restaurant in the works for the old bank building on the south side of Detroit, just west of Kitsch, the Detroit Studio, and M% Gallery. They're trying to get a liquor permit on the November ballot, so if you're in the neighborhood, keep an eye out for the petition and the ballot issue. The concept is a neighborhood Mediterranean theme, with pizzas and pastas. If this sounds familiar, yes, this is the same guy who owns One Walnut downtown and was previously attempting to open the venue adjacent to Gypsy. The new location is apparently more suitable!
  12. Project for Public Spaces? You make a good point about the transfer connection between the ECTP and the Red Line. I never considered that, although I've often thought about the redundancy of the eastern edge of the route. My only concern would be that someone travelling on the Red Line eastbound, who wanted to transfer to the Silver Line westbound for destinations near the Clinic (for example) would have more difficulty making that connection. Not that this warrants leaving the station at E. 120th/Euclid. All signs point to the station being rebuilt at Mayfield, though, with the main entrance on the L.I. side of the tracks and a connection bridge built over the tracks to the UARD/Triangle.
  13. ^I interpreted it the same way. In any case, the townhomes aren't anything to write home about from across the street, but when you get up on the porches, you can just tell that there's been a lot of quality work done on the structure, design, etc. Real stone, real landscaping, durable wood. Not a whole bunch of cheaply painted surfaces that are going to look worn and tattered in 10 years (ala Beacon Place).
  14. It's going to be a 30-story Halle's department store?
  15. ok, well how about this for an upper? The first residents have moved into the Wade Park Townhomes. The next one is slated to be occupied by Friday. They are very nice...
  16. 1-2-3 posts and we're off topic! Congrats!
  17. wow, we are a sad lot... hopeful, but really just grasping at anything that could be the BIG NEWS!!!
  18. I figured what more appropriate area for a thread about discussions overheard than the City Discussion section! Your bolded statement above was my intent precisely.
  19. Unfortunately, Helena's closed recently. Sorry to be a downer, but I'm just reporting the facts.
  20. In a Starbucks on campus at Case Western Reserve University... From one returning student to another: "I worked Downtown all summer and there was so much going on!" Sitting there, reading my Planning magazine, I was very pleased to hear this from one college student to another. Spread the word, folks, Cleveland is alive! The mythical tumbleweeds have been swept off the streets of the CBD yet again!
  21. The emergency center and parking structure are going where the old nurse's dorms now stand (behind the fencing). The Cancer Center is planned for the corner of Cornell & Euclid, just east of the Hearing & Speech Center.
  22. Has anyone ever received any feedback from submitting a comment online? I've submitted two this year and have received no reply. My last one even cited that the first one was never responded to. On another note, I had a pleasant phone call with the answer line the other day, although I really had to work an answer out of them. I was inquiring about what hours I could take my bike on the train on a Tribe game night. The woman was polite and helpful, but she really didn't get the question. After about three tries, where she went to ask other people, I determined that I couldn't bring my bike on the Red Line from 4:30 - 5:30 (daily rush hour rules) and from 5:30 to 8:30 (1.5 hours before and after game time). Unfortunately, the latter rule is not printed anywhere on the website or at stations, and unless you're carrying Tribe, Browns, Cavs and other schedules with you at all times, you're really just hoping there's no special event!

Congrats! Will they be in the same building as Digi and the County?
  24. wow, I actually don't like that at all and don't see much of an improvement from the other pic we've seen. I'm also not sure that this is anywhere near final. Stay tuned.
