  1. That looks much different from last year's renderings that we saw in the Levin Atrium. I'll have to see more before I comment!
  2. What? My thread wasn't good enough for you? http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=9657.0
  3. wow, Teahouse Noodles is fantastic! Even though this spot is a little out of the way for the Circle workforce (what, they couldn't afford the old Commodore space?), I think they should do quite well on Murray Hill.
  4. is that the Euclid face or another side?
  5. Who saw Michaels's catch yesterday that ended the game? It was ridiculous! Tom Hamilton made it sound like Michaels got all clumsy and fell on his ass and then the ball fell into his mitt. Dude was running all out and caught the ball over his shoulder in the bread basket. With the wind and the cold and the pressure, not many fielders would've made that catch! Then Grady mauled him in excitement. Go Tribe!

It pays to go green Posted by Barb Galbincea April 02, 2007 19:08PM Categories: Metro Grant seekers who want construction money from Cleveland's two largest foundations will have to come up with some green, too. The Cleveland and George Gund foundations jointly announced Monday that they will award capital grants only for building or renovation projects that adopt green building principles, making them more energy-efficient and less harmful to people and the environment. Spokesmen for both foundations said the new policy is an extension of their efforts to promote environmentally friendly practices in a variety of areas. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
  7. Hmmm...I do recall the other space, though I never went there. I've never been to another Arhaus, but I thought this one was particularly affordable. Maybe they had deals on the top two floors?
  8. Right, Cinco de Mayo...I'm so out of touch! Zocalo certainly doesn't look like it's a month from opening! What about Theresa's?
  9. If this guy's been at it for 30 years, he must have done something right. It just sounds like he's let it go or has failed to adapt his model to the present day.
  10. Actually, if you have two "districts" in your name, your property values are projected to double when the Silver Line opens! I really can't get over how they keep pushing the opening back one season at a time. At one point, I'm sure it was supposed to be done by now. Last fall, they said "Spring 2008." Then we had a meeting earlier this year and they said "Fall 2008." Now, "end of 2008?" What a crock...
  11. Wow, interesting! And when are these two slated to open?
  12. Asking because I don't know... does this guy ever have events in his shop? Like a little monthly "opening" with a featured local author or a reading with some wine/cheese/coffee? He could even get one of the neighboring restaurants to cater and co-promote. To me, it seems like their problem is lack of visibility and marketing and the fact that probably 95% of the neighborhood has never set foot inside the store. The only time I ever hear about this shop is when it's on the verge of closing again! Take a look at Music Saves on Waterloo. Do you think anyone advised these young business people to open a record shop in the age of digital media? They saw the niche in a neighborhood people flock to for music (Beachland Ballroom is a neighbor), probably got a good rental rate, marketed it appropriately, host events throughout the year and stay open late when there's a show next door. I can't say whether their making a killing or not, but they've been open for a couple years now without having a "going out of business" fundraiser!
  13. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this was actually an Arhaus "outlet" store. They had some reasonably priced furniture in there that I felt was very appropriate for the market they were located in. I came over from Ohio City to find some furniture there after discovering that the two furniture stores on W. 25th are filled with over-priced left over stock from the 80s (seriously, has anyone ever been in those stores?).
  14. You know how many times I said, "this is a small town," while living in New York? It's a figure of speech! When you find that you're butting heads with the same 5 property owners every time you try to acquire a piece of land, "it's a small town!" Or when you get on the L train at 14th Street during rush hour and find that you're on the same damned car as the people who are staying at your apartment that weekend and who you haven't seen since you left home that morning, "it's a small town!"
  15. This meeting took place last night and has been touched upon in the other University Circle thread. I'll post images this weekend and give more feedback from the meeting. For starters, there was lots of response from the public, both on the positive and negative side. The meeting ended with Councilwoman Sabra Pierce Scott insisting that we'll come back as many times as is necessary to get the best outcome to satisfy as many people as possible.
  16. For the NCAA Championship, the RTA Trolleys will run on Saturday and Sunday, March 31st and April 1st. The E-Line Trolley (along Euclid Avenue) will run every 15 minutes on Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm and on Sunday from 11 am to 10 pm. The B-Line Trolley (Superior/Lakeside) will run every 10 minutes on Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm and on Sunday from 11 am to 9 pm.

Very nice article and from an unexpected source. Thanks ESPN!
  18. Nothing to report that hasn't already been said. I will agree with those here who stated that we really weren't presented with anything that hadn't already been discussed on this forum. There was an opportunity to ask the panel questions, but it was the usual suspects who got to the mic. Ed "Citizen" Hauser and Kevin "Cleveland Bikes" Cronin were among them, but to me, this sort of forum format is not a great opportunity to get down and dirty with the developers. Anytime there are cameras and 1,000 people watching, you're going to get a boiled down, PC response. Are you exploring sustainable building techniques? Of course! Is the waterfront important to your development plans? Of course it is? But there was really no chance to get down to the nitty gritty of what was being done to address these things. Of course, there could've been a dozen great questions and enlightening responses, but I wouldn't know because I didn't have a wristband that would allow me to get into the VIP section or the balls to tell everyone to shut the hell up so I could hear.
  19. I saw them loading stock in through the front door the other day. Anyone notice if they're open yet?
  20. If they're breaking the law, then yes, there should be action by the DCA and CPD. I don't think any of the times I was approached actually met those criteria.
  21. seriously, what's the deal with that? It was happening far before ECTP construction on both Euclid and the recently redone Prospect Avenue. No excuse for that in my book! I had a similar, panhandler-ridden lunchtime walk up Euclid the other day. From Tower City to E. 17th, I was solicited no less than 4 times. Two people asked for directions and then asked for money. I know they (DCA) wants to address this, but unless anyone's breaking the law, what can they do? It's not in their mission to solve the poverty and homelessness problem, but one of their task forces after last year's kickoff was to address these issues. Not sure if they came to any conclusions on what could be done...
  22. yes, many of us are. and trust that if any news surfaces, it'll be posted on Urban Ohio!

There's also the Embassy Suites on E. 12th. I'd vote for the Hyatt, but I've never stayed in any of these places, so what do I know?
  24. I believe CPP is attempting to establish a set of uniform light fixture options citywide. My understanding is that developers/planners/whoever will get to pick from 6 designs for upgrades, etc. I'm not enamored with any of the ones I've seen! I was on the Euclid Corridor, yesterday, riding the 6 through the freezing rain from CSU to Univ. Circle and was happy to see that west-Midtown is nearing completion with the basic infrastructure work. I can't wait to see the rest of the fixtures, plantings, etc. installed! University Circle and the Clinic are another story... By the way, did anyone notice that when they chopped down the trees in the median in front of Severance that someone carved little sad faces into their stumps?
