  1. There were some interesting proposals early on that included a 3-story office building and possible incorporation of an institution on the ground floor. Some interesting designs arose that addressed the prominence of the intersection and the turn in Euclid Avenue at that intersection, but for whatever reason, those never went anywhere. NCB's most serious proposals were nothing great, so I'm looking forward to seeing what can be done with the large remaining portion of the parcel once they've moved to Deering.
  2. Oh, it's actually really drab... they're attempting to move towards the south end of the parcel they're currently on. It'll just end up being a stand alone bank structure with a drive-through. It really couldn't be more boring! There have been several proposals over the past year or so and UCI has been working with them in an attempt to free up the rest of the parcel for more significant construction. I don't think it's gone to RFP yet, so there's nothing much to report in that department.

On this week's City Planning Commission agenda: Ordinance No. 71-07 (Zone/Ward 17) : To change the Height District of land on the north side of Detroit Avenue between West 65 th St. to West 67 th St. from a ‘1’ or a ‘2’ Height District to a ‘3’. That upgrades this segment from a 35' - 60' limit to a 115' limit. I'm wondering why... The only thing on this block is the Gordon Square Arcade and the parking lot behind it. Unless the recent talk of developing a garage on the parking lot includes building a few stories of housing on top of it (which would totally kick ass!).

  10. Wow! I'm loving all this talk and what seems to be honest action on these two projects. My only concern with the Lorain project is the total demo of the wood frame structures for parking. I thought he was planning to preserve the facades, if not the entire set of buildings?

I finally checked out Liquid Planet (www.liquid-planet.com) on Clifton & W. 110th (11002 Clifton) after over a year of saying "I really should check that place out" when hitting up Pet-Tique (just across 110th) for my little ones. What a menu! The sandwiches were fantastic and the juices/smoothies as well. I'll certainly be going back!

  15. was hanging out in the OC last night myself before heading over to Parish Hall for one of the funnest nights out in a while... at 6:30, my party of six found Momocho booked up, a 30 minute wait at Great Lakes and a 15 minute wait at Johnny Mango. We chose JM and saw crowds continue to wait at the door during our entire meal. On our way out, we saw lots of action around Heck's as well...nice to see so many people out and the restaurants doing brisk business!

    Our tours over the past three months were a nice blend of what you might think of for "young professionals" (read: Yuppies), as well as what "young hipster urbanites" might be into. A little bit of what Emerging Cleveland focuses on (the behind-the-scenes stuff) and a little of what Lolly the Trolly might swing you by. Nothing wrong with either one, as long as the other side isn't neglected! As for diversity, there was a bit more diversity during the meet n' greets, but I can't speak for the whole three day period. On the point of where a firm is located and how it can impact employee's choices to take a job... I may change my tune if I don't find a job right away, but I'm really only considering places that are convenient to public transit. And by that, I mean that I can work until 7:00 and the bus route won't have shut down already. So, a company in University Heights, which is certainly not Solon to me, is still too far out of the mix. Location is a BIG factor for me. I have a friend who lives in Ohio City, is from Chicago, and works in Westfield... don't ask me where that is. Basically, he can't stand driving all that way anymore and is about to take a job Downtown for less money because of the convenience.
  20. Yes, we've been talking about that since page one of this thread. I know they've cleaned out a lot of stuff, but that may have just been WSCH leaving. The last time I went to a block club meeting, the developers said they could start in the fall of 2006 if all went smoothly. I'm guessing that it didn't, but I haven't heard another word about it progressing. On a side note, there's a big old house that was for sale on Fulton, just west of Franklin Circle (parcel 003-33-002) that had a side lot for sale along with it. It looks like Montlack has purchased both properties (Nov. '06), as they're adjacent to the large (yellow brick) building that we talked about earlier in this thread that they'll be converting to apartments. Word on the streets is that the side lot will become more parking for the apartment building. The house, hopefully, will stay intact.

  23. Great news! Lots of possibilities! I, too, hope they stay downtown, but with all this cutting edge architecture and other academic institutions slated for University Circle, that's gotta be a draw too. No mention of a potential location on the CSU campus? I would think a Euclid Ave building would be killer...
  24. Isn't Corbo's moving into the spaces directly up the hill from their current spot? Where there used to be a gallery? The future of the theater is still a big ?
  25. What do you think W28th? Don't some of the bigger (top floor) units have that "lofty" feel with just the right amount of cozy classic apartment vibe to them?
