wow, are they really knocking those down? This is such a beautiful set of buildings! Are they seriously not able to keep the external structures? I find it hard to believe that they'd be able to replicate what's already there... I've eyed the building at W. 85th Street, across the tracks from the Painter's Loft for some time as well. That would've made a very cool loft building, but hey, if the thing is falling down on its own, they're going to have a tough time selling units... I always envisioned that bridge as a new Red Line station and as a new link between the north and south sides of eastern Cuddell. Ah well...

Got to do a walk-through of the model suite that they have set up in the earlier Stonebridge condo building...very nice! It was three floors with two decks and fantastic views. I think it was somewhere in the $440k range.

I'm back! I meant to post something about this a couple weeks back... I saw building floor plans sitting in the Montlack Realty office in Shaker Square while taking some people around for a tour in early December. I would've asked the realtor about it, but she was clueless and I can't imagine that she would've known anything. It's very nice to hear about these plans, as I've been drooling over this building for over a year!

This is welcome news... Was in there with about 25 Emerging Cleveland tourgoers...not a lot going on, but at least the place was open!

BTW, JamieC, you are so right that we should be pushing for these more advanced bus shelters...maybe with some lights and a little solar power...making them more attractive and marketing them to advertisers could help these pay for themselves!

Yes, they're hideous and not one of them (correct me if I'm wrong) has so much as a map or schedule in them. I spoke briefly with Calabrese about this and he said that they were working on plans to upgrade all of these shelter stops first (something like 500+, IIRC), but that providing information at basic "sign & post" stops would not likely happen. He actually reacted like I was crazy to think that could happen and didn't believe me when I said that ALL NYC stops have little information signs with relevant bus route and schedule information. Glad to see they're doing their research!

My first impression is that there will be another cold shoulder to the corner of E. 21st & Euclid. The entrance shouldn't be set back in the middle of the block. I could be reading it wrong, but that's what I'm seeing.

Hi all, I've been asked to look into design ideas for bridges that serve as gateways to neighborhoods. I'm not talking Brooklyn or Golden Gate here...I'm talking about railroad and other overpass bridges like Cleveland's bridge at E. 55th & Euclid or the bridges that cross over Mayfield, Cedar & Euclid in University Circle. If you've seen any, have any in your particular hood, or could refer me to interesting examples of how to do this the right way, let me know!

Today will mark the re-opening of the new Adelbert Road Bridge between Little Italy and University Circle. It will also mark the indefinite closing of the Cornell Road Bridge to vehicular traffic. A final inspection of the Adelbert Road Bridge is scheduled for today, after which the power to the bridge lights will be connected and the bridge should be opened (ideally, by evening rush hour). Design work for the replacement of the Cornell Road Bridge continues, with plans to have it under construction by the end of 2007, although financing is apparently a significant concern.

It can be nice, sometimes, to find out that there's more progress being made than we can keep track of!

wow, nice to see such a detailed timeline! It'll be exciting to see the structure get started on 12th & St. Clair, but we're still a year-and-a-half from completion of phase 1! I'd hope that with all this increased activity that pre-sales get crackin and they can start the next phases before the first one is complete...

The MLK Corridor Study has recommended high density housing and retail at the intersection of Stokes, MLK & Euclid, which is another key development opportunity between the Clinic, University Circle, and the Cedar/University rapid station. Work is being done to make this a reality, but it's not magic wand stuff...

That is great news! I've been seeing the racks all over the city. As nice as they'll be to have around, it's too bad they couldn't be a little more distinctive or unique...or that there couldn't have been more fanfare about their addition to the neighborhoods. I guess it is December, after all, and these things are about 5 months late!

Actually, this part of Downtown was in Stark's initial "Y Cleveland" vision. This is the branch of the "Y" that stretches down Prospect and Euclid. And yes, it is quite exciting to hear about this...though, I'd weigh in that the WHD parking lots are a bit more exciting...if I had to choose!

And how many of them are encouraged to explore the nearby neighborhoods for housing options? I know that the majority of these folks probably aren't moving for their job, but still. Good news is that part of the Greater University Circle Initiative involves creating incentives for locating within walking distance of work. (see the second to last paragraph in the above post)

At last week's showing of the "Managing Decline..." video, Vickie Johnson from Fairfax Renaissance hinted that there'd be a big, transformational development announced on Friday (Dec. 15). She couldn't talk about it until then, but perhaps this was it? Another source tells me that there are a few other big deals going down in Fairfax...maybe someday he'll join the forum and share with us!

I didn't realize this project involved so much demolition... The biggest factor here is new jobs and construction, but I'm excited about the exterior improvements as well!

This likely applies to the potential CSU sensor center as well...exciting!

actually, it looks like the rendering is correct. The standard awnings are just outlined along Euclid, not colored in, but the retractable ones over sidewalk seating stretch along E. 4th. I hadn't seen (or noticed) that image before...very nice!
