yes, cranes in the air... On my way up Euclid this afternoon from Downtown to U.C., I noticed that the Heart Center's windows have arrived. To my disgust, they are a nice shade of "clinic" green. Not transparent at all...I'm pretty disappointed in this.

What? Who knew the Project for Public Spaces was doing transit and land use studies??? This will likely be done in conjunction with the adjacent UARD, so I'm surprised that the study area doesn't stretch to the other side of the tracks. It'll also be interesting to see what happens with the Hemisphere site, which now appears to be up for sale...

I'd say the big banner and the lights are a good sign for his promotional side! Now, if he wrapped the whole building and put a big bow on it, that would be a little bit more exciting...

There's another thread for that conversation... Somehow, I missed this part of the interview in reading the Wolstein interview online. Maybe there are two links? Anyhoo, I'm surprised that there's so much office space being discussed and also that DFAS and Baker Hostetler are in the coversation. I guess I'll take 'em wherever I can get 'em, but I don't want to spread out the traditional Downtown office core too much. Then again, if this makes the FEB more feasible... hell, let the market do its thing! Also, I'm thrilled to hear that Wolstein thinks they can start demo and construction to that significant extent before the e.d. proceedings are through. That really surprised me!

They have a large new sign up on the building that says "Do Not Open Until January 2007" (or something to that effect...)

This is impressive...definitely on the high end of estimates that were given. Fifth Third Center's sale is final: $64 million 3:22 p.m. Dallas-based Behringer Harvard has completed its anticipated purchase of Fifth Third Center. The real estate investment firm paid $63.75 million for the 27-store office tower at 600 Superior Ave. in Cleveland, which had been owned jointly by Ashley Capital LLC and Galbreath Co. According to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Behringer Harvard does not plan to make significant repairs or improvements to the property, which "is suitable for its intended purpose and adequately covered by insurance." The building is anchored by the Northeast Ohio offices of Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bank and is 83 percent leased. Other tenants include the law firms of McDonald Hopkins Co. and Buckley King.

Cool! What is the structure made out of? I guess I didn't expect the turbines to be on the exterior. I was envisioning them being more tucked into the structure. I'm no engineer, though!

Anyone noticed the movement of heavy equipment around the Doan Electric Building on CSU's campus? Maybe some more "surgical demolition?"

Was the height issue a cost issue or was it not functionally beneficial to be 100' higher? For reference, the Hilton Garden Inn (a couple blocks west on Carnegie) is 11 stories, so probably under 150'. The US Bank (Renaissance) Building at Playhouse Square is just over 200' (thanks clevelandskyscrapers.com!) and it's pretty visible from afar. This should stand out quite nicely along the relatively less dense Carnegie and should be visible from several major freeways to boot!

Well, they're already talking about Peralta being a one-hit-wonder and they've acknowledged (and addressed) a gap at second base. We have options at 1st, from veteran (Blake) to newbie (Garko). The outfield now has more options as well. 3B is a bit of a gamble with the rookie (Marte), but I like that gamble. The bullpen is already looking a lot stronger. I don't know...it's always easy to be optimistic in the off season.

Yeah, I can see that. And yes, the Charter School is already there. I don't know if it's operational yet, but the signs are up and what not.

nice! I'm not sure exactly how these things will work, but I thought they were supposed to be mounted on existing buildings or built into new ones? I didn't realize they'd be free standing. I guess this is just the prototype (or just your impression of it), but I'm assuming they'll be versatile, so that they can be installed either as free-standing units or as attachments to buildings. Imagine if the new student center had one of these sticking up a couple hundred feet out of one of its corners...it would provide a nice new landmark piece!

I was really disappointed when I found out that the work on the corner was for a charter school and not the market...

I'd be surprised if they still go balls to the wall for another closer after this. The prospect of signing Eric Gagne is particularly enticing, but he's even more of a question mark than Borowski...
