  1. I do like Civilization, but I love Lucky's! Where is our Lucky's in the OC? I guess we'll just have to open it... W. 38th & Whitman, perhaps?
  2. strange... but good for you B12! Wim, I know I get good coffee from home, but what about when I just feel like buying a cup on the go some day? I have to wait 'til I get over to school or work, which means that I don't have any coffee for the commute! By the way, that morning blend has caramel in it today...no toffee or hazelnut
  3. I'll believe it when I see it...errr...taste it!
  4. I'd like to think an extra hour or so of sunlight entering these apartments would be a good thing... like having north and south facing windows at the same time!
  5. I've had several great cups of coffee while dining in at Oui Oui, but the one time I got coffee to go, it was baaad. Lukewarm and not particularly tasty. Near West Coffee & Tea isn't great either. What about Talkies? I don't seem to have any bad memories from theirs. Here's another problem, though: no one knows how to make a decent espresso or Americano! What ever happened to the Ohio City Coffee Collaborative?

wow, off topic boys! I got to stand at the bus stop on Public Square last night for about 30 minutes, facing the Park Building. It's just a perfect building for this sort of conversion and the impact of a couple dozen lit up windows with people behind them will be great for the square. An interesting penthouse addition will be nice too!
  7. ^Don't you mean the building on the right? The left is where the lanes are! I love the reflection off of 515...

^that's what grad students are for!
  9. musky...not you MTS! We all know you're too much of a jet-setter to settle down!
  10. Weird...I'm not picturing that. It appears to be a block west of Halite...
  11. ^This is very true for the center and for the neighborhood. The Civic Center district really isn't very hopping...day or night! With more destinations and mixture of uses, the ample open spaces will see better use and there will be more activity between the heart of Downtown and the Lakefront...thus making the distance appear a little less formidable!

Why bad for you? All industries and players are welcome in the District (it's still a fairly abstract concept) and, in fact, they are all essential to it. Without the hotels/restaurants/schools/industry, we wouldn't have constructed the ideal district where it is. The only comment about there needing to be a more clearly defined set of parameters and players pertains to the whole agglomeration theory behind the district. We need to establish a critical mass in a very finite geographical area before the thing will purportedly "take off" and run itself. If 6 firms want to move in and choose unrelated locations within the roughly square mile area, then that doesn't really do much to establish a "place." If they all choose 14th & Euclid, then we'll have something!
  13. Time to move yerself, the kids and the wife over to E. 4th!

Will there be any images with that article?

  16. Somehow missed this one: New director brings energy to Cleveland Public Theatre Sunday, September 10, 2006 By Tony Brown Perhaps the most significant thing about the 2006-07 season at Cleveland Public Theatre is that there is a season. Last year at this time, the city's biggest-budget alternative theater announced only an abbreviated fall lineup, waiting to announce winter and spring schedules. It was a move of caution in the face of budget deficits and uncertainty. But now that Raymond Bobgan has been named executive artistic director (replacing Randy Rollison, departed for Portland, Ore.), the Public has returned to a full lineup, and to its roots...

He and Dan Cuffaro have had meetings pretty much every day since this thing hit the papers a month ago. I've been to about a half-dozen of them, with audiences from community development folks, to CIA students, to industrial design and consumer product professionals, to the real estate investor community. If it's gonna happen, these are the people to make it!
  18. The Monastery (W. 25th, next to the Old Angle) looks about ready to open. The paper's out of the windows and there's a menu up next to the front door. It looks like they have a full tea menu and some tasty comfort food. I didn't get a good look inside, but I'm going to try to go when they're open! Haven't seen a soul on the Jay Lofts site in a while, but the Market Square Building is bumping every day. They've got new floors in and some new exterior walls where the old ones were knocked out after the fire.

Designer Showrooms in Cleveland The Sound of Ideas: Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 9:00 AM Imagine you're a buyer for, say, Crate and Barrel. You've got a buying trip coming up, and the place with all the designer showrooms is... Cleveland. It's a designer's dream and the possible future for a stretch of the city just east of Playhouse Square. Tuesday morning, we'll chat with the people helping to make it happen, and we'll hear why a Cleveland showroom makes sense from the business perspective, too. If you missed it (like I did), you can check out the archive at www.wcpn.org.
  20. This is likely a step up from Jason Michaels, but I'm not ecstatic about it. If nothing else, it will push other players to kick it into high gear in attempts to make the starting lineup. I'd rather see Blake in RF than at 1B and I'd love it if Garko and Marte worked out from day 1 at 1B and 3B, respectively. Only time will tell, though... Tribe tabs Dellucci for left field Veteran agrees to three-year, $11.5 million contract By Anthony Castrovince / MLB.com CLEVELAND -- One week before the Winter Meetings get underway, the Indians appear to have crossed another item off their offseason to-do list. The club has reached a preliminary agreement with free-agent outfielder David Dellucci on a three-year, $11.5 million contract, according to a report by the Associated Press. Read more at www.mlb.com
  21. I'm looking into this right now. The interactive map is not up to expected standards. Also, I couldn't seem to find any "directions to" of any mode on the site. I'll look into that as well! On the question of public transportation, the interactive map has an entire layer of public transportation. Ideally, you could find your destination and then click on any number of transit lines to get more information. However, it's a bit confusing to navigate (we wanted to make it analagous to the RTA system... built without the user in mind!). I'm trying it out and hopefully we can make some improvements.

  23. Mayor Jackson Joins Detroit Shoreway Neighborhood Stakeholders to Unveil $12 Million Gordon Square Homes Development November 20, 2006 — Mayor Frank G. Jackson joined Jeffrey Ramsey, Executive Director of the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization (DSCDO), Ward 17 Councilman Matt Zone, and community stakeholders for a ribbon cutting ceremony unveiling the Gordon Square Homes development. The $12 million Gordon Square Homes development includes the rehabilitation of four buildings and the creation and preservation of 85 rental-housing units designated for low-income tenants. In addition, 6,000 square feet of commercial space has been rehabilitated. The project is located in the heart of Detroit Shoreway’s emerging arts and entertainment district... Thanks for posting, Wim. Maybe if ODOT (and new state leadership) takes a few steps backwards, they'll come to realize that over-investing in freeways and other auto-centric modes of transportation just isn't sustainable (financially or otherwise).
  25. I'm very pleased to hear about this partnership and the progressive thinking of the City on this one. I'm sure there were plenty of reasons to say no to this arrangement, but by saying yes, we're making a lot of things possible. On a side note, my impression was that the new convention center on the mall would be built where the current county buildings are, on the west side of Mall B and north to the lake. I don't know that this film studio idea would necessarily rule the mall site out.
