  1. I heard multiple stories on NPR this weekend and sat through the entire film for the first time in years... gotta love it! Great job Brian Jones, but what goes on in this house during the off-peak seasons?
  2. That's prime real estate for the District of Design!
  3. Ok, so the website is a little choppy right now. One page that you should all enjoy is the following: http://www.universitycircleinc.org/content/planning_development_department.asp Any questions?
  4. Nothing new...I just found the project on the architect's website. Prospect Building Lofts: http://www.lowensteindurante.com/page.php?id=30
  5. From the November Coventry Times: Marc's will open its new store in December. The grand opening will take place on December 5th. There's apparently a new music venue on the second floor of the Centrum called the Coventry Stage... anyone been?
  6. I got some of that bile too... We're working on finding a new use for the Tudor Arms (the beautiful old hotel at Stokes & Carnegie). I think everyone would like to see it either returned to a hotel use or perhaps a combination of hotel and residential. Stokes has so many of these beautiful old gems along it! As for the other beautiful old structure on Carnegie, it used to belong to the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, but they're moving to the 'burbs and the Clinic has purchased the building and surrounding lots. If they try to knock it down... grrr...
  7. to the best of my knowledge, limited as it may be, this is not a project that is new to UO. It should fit nicely into one of a number of existing threads!

On the member list, I'm 232, but my name says 252. Ponderous...
  9. Oh, glory! Third H&M opens Hennes & Mauritz, better known as H&M, the go-to store for fashionable and affordable clothes, will open its third Cleveland location in the newly renovated :shoot: Beachwood Place on Thursday, Dec. 7. The two-story Beachwood Place store will be to the left of the main entrance of the mall, near the food court. To celebrate, H&M will offer the first 100 customers a free T-shirt and a 20 percent discount valid from noon to 9 p.m. opening day.
  10. Wow, this would be just one more excuse for FC to not invest in its hometown. It looks like PA has the model that some of us would have supported...open bidding for the casino license. Not that it really opens the field up a whole heckuva lot, but it's still better than designating the winners before the election! Check out the type of development FC is looking into, beyond the Casino. Can anyone think of a place in Cleveland [cough] Scranton [cough] where they might do something like this??? Developer lining up to play slots Forest City seeks Pittsburgh gambling license Wednesday, November 22, 2006 Henry J. Gomez Plain Dealer Reporter Cleveland-based real estate developer Forest City Enterprises Inc., which this month saw its multimillion-dollar push to legalize slot-machine gambling in Ohio defeated at the ballot box, is hoping for better luck in the Keystone State. This week, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in Harrisburg, Pa., heard presentations from Forest City and the two other finalists for Pittsburgh's lone slots casino license. Each applicant is pushing a billion-dollar plan with support from hometown sports heroes. Forest City has teamed with Las Vegas-based gaming giant Harrah's Entertainment Inc. on a $1 billion proposal that includes a $512 million casino at Station Square. Forest City also plans to build a 250-room hotel and create a mixed-use neighborhood with 1,250 condominium units. Franco Harris, a Pittsburgh Steelers great during the 1970s and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, would head an affiliated community foundation. More at http://www.cleveland.com/plaindealer
  11. By the way, at the meeting, UCI announced the launch of their new website. There are still a few glitches, but I believe you can test it out at www.universitycircleinc.org. Please let me know if it works for you...especially the interactive map. We worked really hard on this!
  12. Oooh! Pictures are in order... they've started to add the curved roof lines and some of the other details that will give this building more "flair" than the earlier ones!
  13. They're really going to town on this space... I hope they're preserving a lot of the historic details... I also hope they try to do some holiday display windows like the Higbee Building windows used to have. Maybe not this year, but next? They could have a lot of fun with that! Make it a performance art piece!

Ok, if Susie Sunshine doesn't get the prize, then Alabama definitely should... plotting the history of new members in Excel is the epitome of urban dork-ness...which is the true spirit of Urban Ohio!
  15. Well, your definition of Downtown is a bit smaller than mine if you don't include the Flats, Avenue District, Convention Center, East 4th Street and the Euclid Corridor! (Just to keep this as confusing as possible)
  16. no no no... see, KJP's cryptic posts are getting people riled up! There may or may not be news about another one of the existing big projects in the near future. Keep your eyes on UO... it all hits here first!
  17. What? knocking down apartment buildings for a gas station? That doesn't sound like the Lakewood I know!
  18. go back to sleep KJP...you're not making any sense!
  19. You think they're trying to promote people crossing mid-block? I doubt it. I can see these "improvements" making a difference further north, but this block is short as it is. And was the money specifically earmarked for this or could it have been allocated on other public projects? That was my understanding. I can't say for sure, though.
  20. Sorry, no pictures from me either, but it looks really nice from the street! I was at the HoB for an real estate event tonight and I had some time to walk around beforehand. There was activity next to Jimmy John's on Euclid, activity on the corner across from Flannery's and, of course, activity in the Corner Alley. Much of the interior of the east side of E. 4th still appears to be staging for construction elsewhere on the street, so it'll be interesting to see how this fills in and well. It also makes me wonder (again) whether they're actually marketing this space yet or not. Walking up Euclid to class around 6:00, it was dark, but I'm already starting to feel the difference of a few new tenants on Lower Euclid. Rush hour traffic and incoming crowds for the Cavs and the HoB helped that, but with spaces filling in there's just more vitality, even before they're all opened!
  21. Of course you do!
  22. seriously, do you know how wide those sidewalks already are??? If the ultimate objective is to widen the sidewalks, then this is a huge waste of money (and trees...) There won't be more people on the sidewalks or shopping in Reserve Square until there's more activity on the street, which will be created by adding more tenants (in offices and in the new residential buildings) and more reason to come to the neighborhood. Taking trees down for a better view of a run down park and a bland building with bland sidewalk retail tenants isn't going to change that! Again, I will say that this money would've been much better spent on Perk Park.
  23. This would be a prime project for Robert P. Madison to work on as either lead architect or a consulting architect. I know, I'm typecasting, but the guy's got local credibility and he's one of the most notable African American architects in the country. It just makes sense for him to be involved in a project like this!
