  1. Another fine event from the Levin College Forum: A Vision for the Warehouse District Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Developer of the Eton Chagrin Boulevard and Crocker Park, Bob Stark will join us to discuss his proposed 21-acre development to transform downtown Cleveland and the Warehouse District. With 1 million square feet of new street-level retail and 6 million square feet of new mixed residential and office space, this project would remake and brand a substantial portion of the central business district. Mr. Stark is also exploring connecting downtown and the Lakefront by extending the Warehouse District street grid to the land just west of Cleveland Browns Stadium. This massive undertaking will require the collaboration of many public and private institutions and individuals including Cleveland, the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority, Cleveland's foundation, and the Greater Cleveland Partnership. Mr. Stark lives by the challenge, "Make No Small Plans." This forum will be an opportunity to hear Mr. Stark talk about his vision for Cleveland's future. Join panelists, Steven Fong, Dean of the School of Architecture and Environmental Design, Kent State University and Valarie McCall, Chief of Government Affairs, City of Cleveland in considering the exciting opportunities and potential challenges raised by such a large scale development. 3. Agreed. Quite impressive up close and from a distance. They've been very active in keeping their street level windows fresh, keeping their plaza clean and updated, and with the tower too. Kudos to NCB!
  4. Me neither... that's why the students have to drive the design this time. F- the old fogies with their "theories" and "experience." They're not building it for themselves!
  5. Ok, enough about New York...what about the student center? What do we want to see there? What are the essentials...content & design? We need to communicate this so that Musky can take it to his meetings! First idea: put a climbing wall in one of the central spaces. Since we didn't get one in the rec center, why not put one in here? A little mixing of rec with dining & student services & organization offices would be cool!
  6. I've got reservations for the new Lola tomorrow night, but I couldn't wait and I stopped by tonight to check out the digs. I found a newer version of the menu than the one that is posted on the E. 4th Street page. Check it out!
  7. I knew it! They're finally using all the money they've been saving up to clad the entire building in gold!
  8. that's what I was alluding to! but you're right...it is a pretty big (and cool) secret!

Never fear JamieC...these naysayers are the same people that follow trends wherever they appear. They don't like to think for themselves, so they just let other people do the thinking for them. So, when Downtown is hot (and it's already getting there), they'll hear the rumors, witness it for themselves and jump on the bandwagon! One thing's for certain with them...they'll never get a deal on housing in an up-and-coming neighborhood before it blows up or discover a restaurant before the critics give it acclaim and the lines get long. They're too afraid to take the risk!
  10. don't forget about the zeppelin docking station on one of the upper floors...
  11. who wouldn't want to have their offices above a bowling alley/martini bar, though? I mean, talk about opportunities to wine & dine clientele...you've got it all in the building! And if you really want to venture out, you can pop down the block to Lola, HoB, Flannery's, or Pickwick...not a bad set of options! So, can they get better rents from residential or office tenants? Also, are there restrictions on what uses can go in based on the subsidies they've received?
  12. And the Guardians of Transportation, while we're at it!
  13. So, foundation work will begin for both the Superior and St. Clair block this month or just for the Superior block?
  14. Cops were rolling by, smiling. The organizers were handing out brown bag lunches, which the po-po was more than happy to partake in!
  15. So, the entire first floor and half of the second will be occupied? Fantastic! Now, about this night club...
  16. Sorry I took so long to get these up...these are from W. 25th, the "park" that was hosted by Cleveland Public Art & Spaces, if my memory is correct:
  17. Wow, that's awesome...not only home-grown, but operating on a state college campus in a highly visible location. Will it be produced in town as well? I see big things if this can take off! Any word on dates, locations, design, etc?
  18. Finally got to check out Ty Fun in Tremont last night. It's next to the Flying Monkey, across from Fahrenheit and Gospel Press on Jefferson. The place was jammin at 9:30 when we arrived and new tables continued to arrive until we left around 11:00. The food was absolutely delicious...perhaps the best Thai I've had in Cleveland...and the decor was very cozy. It's a small place with a lot of tables crammed in, but I really liked that about it and it's rarely done in Cleveland. For now, it's BYO, so we got a bottle of wine to take away from the Monkey next door and had a grand time. Big recommendations coming from myself and YSOH!
  19. There's a new project sign up on the eastern end of the Superior block. Thanks for all the pics ya'll!
  20. I said I'd post this when it came out: full Circle is UCI's new quarterly magazine http://www.universitycircle.org/ASSETS/0E86301B032F405294B56E416761DB47/Full%20Circle-Magazine.pdf The article on the VA expansion is on page 2
  21. Yikes! Well, I really got a kick out of the union/rat sequence... and I'm looking forward to MayDay's pics from this and E. 4th!
  22. not at this juncture...sorry!
  23. Drove past the other day on my way to the Lakefront West meeting and noticed that the north walls of the first set of Battery Park Boulevard lofts have gone up. Exciting!
  24. RE: Parkside Townhomes: Foundations are above ground on the first several units...concrete and brick. That's all I've got for now!
