The Cleveland Photo Trivia Thread (Updated April 4, 2007)
Dammmmmn!!! I actually meant to write 25 for my Huntington Bank guess, but no matter, I figured it out today while in class at CSU and looking out over campus at the CPD building. I nudged Blinker12 and said, "hey, I just figured out one of the Cleveland Photo Trivia pictures!" Musky beat me to it, though!

Welcome Lammonator! Original fireplaces??? That's incredible! Was this ever a residential building before? Do you think the fireplaces will be operational?

Cleveland: Tyler Village
Nice! Thanks! I haven't been by since they put those "storefronts for lease" signs up. I wondered if they'd be marketing the ground floor in this way... By the way, I got to go to a killer rock show at The Factory (a CIA artist's huge studio space) back in July. It was sweet! He even had one of the bridges in his unit!

Cleveland: UH may consolidate 600 workers at Atrium building
From the PD (please excuse the typo in the headline...it's just a headline, after all!): UH to buy former OfficeMax headquaters 9:52 a.m. University Hospitals is expected to announce this afternoon that it is moving 900 non-clinical employees into the former OfficeMax headquarters building in Shaker Heights. The announcement has been rumored for weeks, with many in the real estate community buzzing that UH had abandoned plans to open an administrative office downtown. "We have looked downtown and outside the city," UH spokeswoman Loree Vick told The Plain Dealer last week. "Really, our campus is outgrowing its boundaries" near University Circle. UH is buying the 227,000-square-foot office complex, located on Warrensville Center Road, to "free space for clinical expansion on the University Hospitals Case Medical Center campus," according to a media advisory sent this morning. Well, I'm pretty sure it's all meant as a joke. Dave Chappelle is rich, and he drives a Prius. What business does Dave Chappelle have in making jokes?

Is #23 the building that houses Sunset Lounge on W. 9th? if not, how about the one that houses the Chop House on St. Clair? Could #24 be the Huntington Building?

boo! so sad! I've never been there, but it's such a prime location... anyone who's been there have anything else to say about it?

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Wow, great news! I've heard quite a few people saying that there is a lot of demand for this kind of space. The location may seem a little odd at present, but in a couple years, it'll be right in the heart of things. Great move and perfect for a revival of this thread! I'd chalk the Park Building news as "Euclid Avenue" oriented as well... Heartland's rehab project at 44th & Euclid continues to move along, but as was indicated earlier, no progress on the pit where the new construction will take place.

"Come Home to Cleveland" - poster/postcard competition!
I was just thinking about this earlier today! You know that Lakewood uses this phrase for its annual home tour? "Come home to Lakewood." Cleveland is far catchier, though!

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Great news, 8Shades! Seriously, those on the inside know about this stuff, but the broader audience has no idea that all of this is happening! And yes, this stuff should be drawing talented people on a much wider scale. You know what they say, though, outside investment follows inside investment. (sound familiar to any of you?) With all the local developers building this momentum right now, it's only a matter of time before some national attention starts to manifest itself!

Cleveland: The Park Building
This is fabulous news! I agree that adding a striking penthouse level would make the whole thing more noticeable and exciting. I can't wait to hear more! It sounds like things are pretty well along if they're already working on the model unit... having that model should help sales move along at a steady clip...

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Sorry to be a lazy reader, but I'm trying to get the skinny on how this project was funded. 26 pages is a lot to read, so I figured I'd check in and see if any of the experts could refer me to a particular page on this thread that might clue me in, or could tell me outright. According to the 3CDC's website, the following sources were utilized: Conventional 1st Mortgage: $15m New Market Tax Credits: $10.75m Cincinnati Equity Fund: $4m Corporate/Philanthropic: $4.9m Urban Redevelopment Loan: $4m City of Cincinnati: $4m The total cost is listed as $42.6 million. They also mention thta income from the parking garage will support the capital structure used to fund these improvements. Does all this sound right? Am I missing anything? Thanks ya'll!

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Anyone checked out the new restaurant on Professor & Literary (the old Theory space) yet? I was down there for the big Sparx event today and was happy to find that Lago has finally opened. There must have been little fanfare, or maybe they haven't done their big opening yet, but they told us that they'd opened the doors on Tuesday, so it's been about 5 days. My parents, girlfriend & brother were invited in by the chef & owner, who were trying to figure out how to cover up the old plaque by the front door that said they weren't open on Sundays. My girl suggested moving a large plant from the entry way to the front step to block the sign. They offered us a free dessert for her ingenuity. We took them up on the offer and had a nice big feast in the meantime! The fare is Italian with reasonable prices and a wine list that was far from intimidating. I had a nice Chianti, an artichoke tart appetizer, vegetarian ravioli (there's plenty for both veggies & carnivores) and some fantastic desserts, along with a well crafted espresso. The decor was nice, but not a highlight. The food, however, was spectacular! And the limonchello tiramisu was divine, despite the fact that I was already stuffed! Something to look out for... when you see diners exiting the restaurant rubbing their tummies, staggering a little, and carrying boxes of leftovers, you can be pretty sure the food and drink were good, the portions were hearty, and the people are leaving satisfied! This is one of those places.

Did you let anyone at UCI know? Sometimes a link gets broken for some reason or another and no one picks up on it until a user lets them know. And yes, UCI is working (diligently) with a local firm on redesigning their website. They're looking at an October launch.

Cleveland-random venting
I was on the bus the other day with a jackass who kept hawking up major loogies and spitting them out the window, indiscriminately, as we moved along busy Prospect Avenue. On a different occasion, a woman was having some phlegm problems of her own, but instead of hurling her refuse out the window, she'd ring the stop bell and spit out the back door when the driver stopped, then go and sit back down. Seriously, some people don't comprehend that there is anyone sharing this world with them.

Like many other transit ridership numbers, I'm skeptical about this. I see lots of bikes on the bike racks and on the trains every day and I wonder how they're counting them. If it's up to the drivers, well, I'll bet we're undercounting things by about half! As for the installation of racks, I'm still seeing the "x"s, but I'm not seeing the racks. What gives?
