Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
paving work next week from E. 107/Stokes to E. 123rd. This puppie's wrapping up soon! I was disappointed to find that the contiguous stretch of open Euclid Avenue has already been disrupted east of 6th street, due to the demolition of the Dollar Bank Building. It would've been nice if that were done earlier! All the buses were being re-routed to Superior this morning.

I was about to post that about the presumably temporary "keep off the grass" signs. I'm sure they'll invest in more permanent, world class keep off the grass signs in the near future.

Where exactly is the Cleve Amtrak station?
My girlfriend in high school lived in Boston, so I used this station once or twice a year in the mid-90s, leaving in the middle of the night and returning at the butt crack o' dawn. My mom (the saint) would drop me off and pick me up each time. Imagine her dismay on one occasion when she arrived on the morning of the Triathlon! Everywhere she tried to go, cops were telling her she couldn't get through. Eventually, she convinced an understanding officer that she NEEDed to get to her child (who was 16) at the station, so everything was all right. So, that's my story. I did manage to flag down the WFL once upon returning to Cleveland in those days. A two-seat trip from Back Bay in Boston to my little nabe in Shaker Heights!

Thanks for all those photos and for the illustration of my sans-sidewalk point. Maybe once they see the tread marks of all those clinic workers who want to walk along the banks of the allee, they'll add them in!

Cleveland: University Hospitals Expansion (University Circle)
Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation gives $2 million for UH emergency center Posted by Joan Mazzolini September 03, 2008 11:28AM CLEVELAND -- A local foundation gave $2 million for a new emergency medicine center at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. The money is from the Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation, and UH is naming a garden court planned for the $45 million Euclid Avenue center after the foundation. The center is scheduled to open in 2010 and will more than double the space for adult and pediatric emergency services. It will move the emergency department from an awkward and cramped location on the side of the hospital out in front of the institution. "Emergency medicine is of vital importance to the health of this region and we are excited to partner with University Hospitals in their plans to reinvest in this critical service," said Ellen Stirn Mavec, president of The Smith Foundation. more at http://www.cleveland.com

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
Upon seeing what looks to be the completed landscape between the split E. 93rd Streets, I have to say I'm disappointed (and surprised) that this vast green landscape with an enticing water feature at its center has ZERO sidewalks. That's right... no clear means by which a pedestrian can stroll amongst the copious, meticulously placed trees or approach the pool. Unless they just want people to walk in the grass, but I doubt that was their intent...

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Too sad! I really liked that place, but honestly "thought" about going there more than I ever actually went. Good to hear about the Shaker Square and Larchmere additions. I usually read Restaurant Row every week, but there's a newspaper thief on my block, so I haven't gotten my paper in over a week.

The Cuyahoga River bulkheads
From Crain's (there's a video too): Fish 'n ships (did they bring over some title editors from the PD???) The Green Bulkhead Project brings together government, nonprofits and business to re-establish fish and plants in the lower Cuyahoga River. By DAN SHINGLER 1:12 pm, August 29, 2008 Soon, quarter-inch fish and 700-foot freighters may peacefully coexist in the same waters of the Cuyahoga River, thanks to an invention called a “CHUB” and a public-private partnership between Cuyahoga County, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and industrial companies, such as ArcelorMittal USA. CHUB stands for Cuyahoga Habitat Underwater Baskets. About 400 of them are being installed along the bulkheads that line the last 5½ miles of the river, where it ceases to be a moving natural environment that supports plants and fish and becomes a deep, still and nearly lifeless channel for huge freighters. Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Was not aware they were looking at the CMHA offices as well, but that's great. Not sure how it would work as apartments, but go for it! I would think there's still more demand for mid-sized office space on this side of the river that would be an easier conversion. BTW, the Exhibit Builders project was one of the "lucky ones" in the first round of Ohio Historic Tax Credit funding, so they've got some dollars moving.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I was stuck between E. 34th & TC for about 20 minutes. The operator said there was no electricity at TC. This was the first such delay I've had in a long time, so I can't really complain. The timing was just bad for a number of reasons, but what can you do?

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I went looking back through the site for another thread where this was discussed. I found it: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,2492.msg99286.html#msg99286 and also found where I got my "hovel" reference from! I've worked with THI in the past, and yes, they do good work with very little.

I think he was asking about the "hovels" to the north of the towers and I have no answer to that query. I do know that their parking lot has been sinking for some time...
